Ren was obligated to respond for laws and reasons beyond his control and understanding deemed it so.

Ren swallowed the lump in his throat.

'Well, this is most unexpected.'

He stared at the watch for several seconds as the numbers glared up at him, unchanging. As though to confirm it were true, he looked to the other and back again. 

She was beautiful. Her large eyes, flowing hair, accentuated voice. It pulled him in, made him confused; his heart soared, his belly fluttered, palms sweated.

He took a nervous step towards her, unable to deny the attraction, the physical lure of her drawing him closer.

'I always thought it was broken,' Aoba laughed, gesturing to the watch on his wrist, 'I always thought… it was broken.' He repeated the words as though he doubted them, voice fading into a whisper as he looked up from the watch and to Ren again.

'It's not broken, Aoba.' Ren said. On his own wrist - now that he had wrists, arms, legs, now that he was human - the watch bore the same set of digits.

'It was never broken.' Ren sad again. 'Because I was always inside you, waiting.'

'Destined…?' Aoba asked, his voice thick with emotion.

Ren simply nodded, too overcome with his own sense of feeling to respond. He did not trust his voice not to break under the weight of his happiness that he could be here now, standing tall, opposite the man he loved with all his heart.

'Aoba… I understand if you wish to reject it-'

'Shut up, you idiot.' Aoba scolded playfully as he wrapped his fingers around the back of Ren's neck and pulled his face down. Ren's eyes widened in surprise, but as soon as he felt the warmth of Aoba's forehead pressing against his own, he knew.

He knew that his feelings had finally reached Aoba.

And the warm sensation that filled his chest and squeezed his heart told him that the feelings were returned.

'We've always been together.' Aoba whispered.
