Regarding Remly

With being respectable, Ralph and I held down full time jobs while trying to get this thing off the ground. Don't get me wrong, we weren't building a rocket ship, but time was something neither of us really had to offer. After some months, we finally purchased and launched TheDKLounge.com. And with that, my life started to pick up a little pace.

The ideas and vision that we have for this site blow me away every time I think of them. It has become the embodiment of what I want for my life. I close my eyes and imagine myself in an open space office, feet up on a desk, reading comics, and booking flights to all the major comic, electronic, and video game conventions. Funny, re-reading that sentence over, I realize that it sounds like the dreams of a 9 year old boy. I wouldn't change it for the world!

So, with my dream way off in the distance, I kept my focus on theDKLounge.com and didn't think any other opportunities would pop up. That's the funny thing about life, though – it has a funny way of bringing in things when you least expect them. The other day, I got a phone call from a friend I hadn't really seen since we played in a band together back in 2006. Needless to say, I was pretty shocked when I saw his name on my phone (side note: Isn't it weird that we keep people's numbers we haven't even thought about calling in years? Attachment issues, much?). There it was again, my life popped into focus a little more and I couldn't believe what was happening. The primary reason I started this blog was because I wanted to become a writer and here was another avenue to do that in. Tom asked if I would be a contributing writer to his clothing company's blog. Of course, I jumped at the chance and I'm eagerly waiting to see where this leads me.

See, there are people in my life that I know who didn't marry for love. Because of different situations, they wound up with their spouse out of 'necessity'. I don't look down on these friends and family because I hope to have their strength if I find myself in a similar spot, but I want to avoid it at all costs. I want, in the very deepest part of my heart, to marry my wife out of pure love.

All of this leads me to ask if I'm being crazy; if any of this makes sense to anyone else. I can't be the only person that's wondered what their future spouse is doing at that moment. I'm pretty confident that it's been a staple in most hopeless romantics' lives. If not, then love has really died and we can all roll over and croak. Maybe I'm being too dramatic about the whole thing, but it's worth mentioning. Hell, every great love story you see or read these days has a point when the main character is fighting for love. I guess that's exactly what I'm doing when I think about my future wife.

Who knows, though. I might just be doing it for myself. I want so bad to believe that true love exists that I've gone to the extent of imagining up a woman who isn't even a part of my world (or may never be) and have fallen in love with her. It's dangerous thinking because I could very well pass by the real opportunity of falling for someone who is very real and tangible, and that scares the shit out of me. I'd end up a bachelor for the rest of my life, asking why the woman of my dreams never showed up. Or worse, I'll ask God what I did to deserve the 'gift' of lifelong bachelorhood.

This all reminds me of the show How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM for short). If you don't know the premise, the show is based around five central characters, the main being Ted Mosby. It's narrated by future dad Ted who is telling his kids how he met their... you get the idea. After a couple of seasons, you really start to wonder if Ted is actually ever going to meet their mother. A lot of times, he ends up with someone that deep down you know she's not the one who gives us the show's title, but you want him to find love so bad that you'd accept it. See, the viewer settles, thinking that he's got something great when in reality, we forego their blatant faults and settle.

So, that show makes me happy and gets me nervous. I'm happy because I know that other people are thinking about my kind of love. It makes me realize that I'm not alone. But what freaks me out is the thought that I'll be too quick to avoid settling, constantly writing girls off for reasons that grow shallow. I'm honestly guilty (sort of a pun, no?) of all ready writing girls off before we're even dating, while we're still just at 'the talking stage.'
