You’re 36 in a world that it’s a miracle you made it that far, surely a lot of the elderly and younger generations have been killed off in the cataclysm and you were the tail end part of that younger gen. A world where medical care was gone for at least a year and there’s no way that the older folks or babies that needed round the clock care made it.

You work your ass off once the world has turned right side up again and the adults have gotten their shit together and stopped picking on the weak. You have no family, no real support except those in the same situation, who then die and you have to pick up where they left off so the world doesn’t collapse on itself again.

At the ripe age of like, 35, you’re heading the main force that kills monsters of The Monster Killing Company, basically running a militia on your own at that point and have been for years, dealing with politics and combat and death and ptsd and pressure.

And then you wake up in a body, probably about the same age as you were when the world had gone to shit, the world you already fucking pieced back together with blood sweat and the patience of a saint. And this new world is on the brink of a war and collapse too.

I, also, would give the entire universe a big ‘fuck you’. Gods? Worlds? Monsters? Oh, they’re so fucked.

Mind, Cale was much calmer about it through what I can only assume to be that saintly patience and a bit of delusion, but he was clearly a little off the rocker on some occasions, and reading through the first time, no one can figure out why.

His midlife crisis was postponed and dropped into the body of an 18 year old, and at that point? I too would explode everything pissing me off in the world and demand to retire at 20.

He’s not slacking, he’s not a slacker. He’s literally at what should be retirement age. Especially for a society where the elder population has died out to the monsters and everyone in the new generation is getting powers and abilities.

With those statistics? Cale is practically middle aged.

He’s not lazy or a slacker, man is a veteran in two worlds, both from a young age, and retired.

But from an outsiders perspective? This teenager who is known to get hammered and has never left the kingdom turns around, smacks a terrorist in the face, and seems to just say fuck it to laying low. Suddenly he has the networking and politicking skills of a diplomat, the will to beat anyone who pisses him off into the dirt, the luck of someone the gods are trying to overcompensate for, and a complete lack of fucks to give.

To the first fictional character who’s journey had inspired me and made me fall in love with novels.

Emptied several bakeries in his territory to feed the bread to a hole in the ground by the roots of a "man eating tree"

Set a castle('s surroundings) on fire

Moved the late Dragon Lord's lair to his backyard

Declared war on himself

Cussed out a God, more than just once

Together with Rosalyn and Lock has destroyed a palace, twice

Angry kids who’s past selves are died either literally or figuratively and came back angry with parental issues yet having multiple parents at the same time and both make pretty good older siblings (to isha and bizzaro) despite once upon a time being abandoned/taken away from their own older siblings and things between them being uhhh rough for a while even though they both just want to be loved and accepted by them again

Plus grew up in the streets
