Owen scoffed after hearing Paytonâs reaction to the recap of his story of the past few years since theyâve seen each other for the last time. He had no idea why he didnât go ahead and lied about every little detail of his life. Maybe he wouldâve gotten away with the made up happy story. But then again, it wasnât real. And he decided to tell her about all of it. The failed attempts at becoming a professional dancer after graduating high school, having to juggle waiter jobs because he was barely able to make enough money to rent his flat with the comedy gigs nobody attended, his failed relationships, followed by his last girlfriend leaving him after the unexpected birth of their son, which explained how he ended up running into Payton on a stroller walk through one of Manchesterâs parks. The fact that his life story wasnât happy was an understatement, thatâs for sure. âOh well, is it ever truly a happy story if Owen Davis is involved?â he blurted out, his voice full of self deprecation and pity. He was glad his son wasnât old enough to understand everything Owen said about himself in his presence. At this point, little Thor probably wasnât yet aware his dad was such a big loser. Of course he wasnât, he was only four months old. âNo way back now, Iâm afraid,â he then sighed, adjusting the blanket his son was wrapped in. âI just didnât expect myself to quite end up here, I guess.â
That was kind of too much information for Payton, but she listened to every single word. It was true. You never know how different your life can be after high school, they were all with such a big dreams, and most of them never even had the chance to make them come true. She didnt know what to say to Owen, it really seemed like he wasnât at a happy place. Payton looked at the boy and smiled "Hey, thatâs not true. Youâll have a happy story one day.â she really believed that, everybody gets their happy ending at some point. âExactly...youâre Owen Davis, you can do everything. And itâs never too late to make your dream come true.â She didnât like seeing him down, it wasnât the person she remembered. Of course she tried to distract him from his cloudy thoughts âCan I hold him for a minute?â Payton smiled and looked at the fluffy baby boy that looked kind of bored. âMaybe heâs your happy story, who knows.â the brunette said, hoping to make him smile.
