Differences and contrasts in preparation for the big bang- Bad buddy Ep. 9
Right from the beginning, this episode showed two sides of the coin in many aspects, while it also finally settled the secondary theatres of the war and got (us) ready for the big battle ahead.
It was done by contrasting scenes visually. Here we have Pran after Wai told him that he's hurt by Pran lying to him about Pat.
And then we have Pat, seemingly chased off by his friends, which turns out to be a hoax a scene later.
Then there is the reaction of the friends: Pat's friend's are mainly amused and pretend for their seniors to be offended, while Wai is hurt and acting like an absolute ass both towards Pran and to pat, who makes a real effort to get on with him.
And while Pat doesn't accept Wai's behavior and nearly hits him and also won't take any shit from anyone else, Pran actually apologizes to Wai, even though he had a reaso to hide this from him. He never asks for an apology from Wai, but just takes his bad behavior. Instead he looks for the mistakes he mad himself. Pran doesn't fight back, doesn't confront and nearly agrees to Pat's idea of pretending to be broken up, just for Wai's sake.
If that's foreshadowing how they will deal with it when it comes to their families, it will be a long and lonely fight for Pat.
The integration within the friend group happens quickly then, because of a gun shot wound Pat get's for helping the idiotic Wai.
It goes as far as openly and honestly announcing that they didn't have sex yet. This was different also Bl wise, because usually sex is either taboo and done under the cover and no one can know, or they do it everywhere and everyone keeps looking in or listening in. Just randomly confirming that they aren't there yet, was refreshing.
Other major differences were in this episode of how they not so subtly mocked other BLs. I think one of my very first posts here on this blog was about my annoyance with the "Wifey" crap in Bls. I LOVED how they made fun of it here, pointing out how ridiculous it is to talk to one another like this and Pran even going as far as asking "Does its make you feel superior if you call me that?" SO GOOD!
Or when Pa told her brother, she figured he would deny being gay by saying "I'm not gay, I only like Pran", another topic I have addressed here on this blog (or was this my first post?). They both admit they like each other now and Pat says he has liked girls in the past (Pran does not say that, but says he could like one in the future).Pat says "gender doesn't matter" which would make him pansexual (or at least bisexual). Pran would probably define the same, even though as far as we know he's always had a crush on Pat.
I could have done without the whole "trying to arrest Pat" bullshit where the students have to "solve the case" because they police, like absolute idiots, just want to arrest him. What about witness statements? Tracing the gun? I could go on... but Wai getting the video himself instead of just making a witness statement and the police doing their jobs was a low point quakity wise in this episode. It brings Wai back into the friendship circle and solves the problem a bit, but him doing this whole 180 with the cutesy phone call was a bit much.
The "Everything is great now" atmosphere with Wai coming around contrasted the next scene perfectly, when Pran then runs into Pat's family outside the hospital room. I had been waiting for them to come bursting through the door way before, to be honest.
The stage is set now for the real major drama: the families. And if Pat and Pran react to this struggle with their usual different coping techniques, then this will get really ugly, really sad, really lonely and really painful - especially for Pat, who will face the fight, while Pran will just quietly beg for forgiveness.
