I think it's fair to say, this is a lot of us.

I’m glad someone finally found the scene.

I may have once posted on a Buffy message board asking if the show had any hypnosis scenes. (This was during the 3rd season- I had missed the first 2.)  This is a routine question I ask myself when enjoying a new show. I’m an enormous dork.

For those of you interested in the fetishy highlights, there’s some more mesmerism action from Drusilla later in ”Becoming part 2″ (season 2, episode 22). If hypnotic vampires are your thing, you’ll find them in “Buffy vs Dracula” (season 5, episode 1) and much less sexily in  “Prophecy Girl” (season 1, episode 13). If you are me and like some suggestively hypnotic Giles, he asks Buffy to stare into a crystal in “Helpless” (season 3, episode 12), waves a pocketwatch at her in “Restless” (season 4, episode 22), and basically does an induction in the first few minutes of “The Real Me” (season 5, episode 2). In some ways, the later seasons of Buffy were a giant tease for a hypnotist!Giles who never quite appeared. The world feels the loss.

Another late night on this video edit, Sara thought to herself. It may have only been freelance work, but this project manager who had hired her was quite the slave-driver, sending endless videos for Sara to edit and cut together. 

What made it worse was that the raw footage wasn’t even that interesting. It just seemed to be a mix of a man droning on and on in a series of interminable pieces to camera, spliced in with some weird visual effects that he claimed were some kind of amazing technological breakthrough.

Sara felt her head droop slightly, and her eyelids flutter. She quickly glanced at the clock on the wall to her left. 1am. Jeez. When did it get so late? I swear I started at 9pm….

She resolved to continue. A little voice inside her head told her that she couldn’t possibly stop until she was done with the processing. Sara inhaled deeply through her nose, and focused her eyes on the multi-dimensional spinning spirals that overlaid themselves over a slow zoom into the man’s eyes. They were so large, and deep, and his voice was so soporific, Sara could just….

Mustn’t look away….must finish…being processed…. Sara tried to fight the urge to fall asleep, the combination of the spirals, his eyes, his voice, an overwhelming wall of sound and vision which threatened to wash away everything. 

But that’s fine…I don’t need to think…he can do the thinking for me….Sara mused, the hint of a placid smile creeping across her lips. All she had to do now was give him the keys to her mind, to let him in. All she had to do was say….

Yes, Master. I obey.

The man on screen smiled, holding up his finger and thumb to the camera.

“…and SLEEP.”

Yesssss…. Sara thought to herself, as her head fell to the desk, resting gently on her splayed out arm. Now, she could just listen, and take on board everything he wanted her to do.
