because seriously there are a lot. for starters, TMA-1 from space odyssey is LITERALLY!!! A BLACK TOWER!!!! THAT SENDS SIGNALS!!!!!
and yknow the heart in rahh and how its like a huge tower? TMA-2 IS WHAT TMA-1 SENT A MESSAGE TO AND ITS HUUUUUGE!!!!!
theres also the people taken by the higher beings in space odyssey who are tethered to these monoliths. they are not who they once were, but rather an echo of the past, working on their own accord but with some guidance from the higher beings. it was described in one book as similar to being a dog on a leash.
this may parallel how the influence treats its vessels. rather than taking full control, it merely “influences” them (haha get it)
