RECESS

2024 at outernet... it was a fun night tbf. this year was a strange year, things happened but it was strange... great night tho!!

this was an 25+ party and was billed "the last every recess parties at boxpark"! we had built such a rapport with that venue but it was a move we had to make for the future of the recess brand. 2023 was the first year of recessland, we were bout to do drumsheds in 2024 so a shift to bigger, less frequent experiences was in play. what a night thoooo!!!!

our 6th birthday and we're in a new venue again: here @ outernet. it was a special night. this was the year we started making a artistic distinction between day and night parties: we'd use fujifilm for day and ilford for night.

we didn't have a party in december 2020 and by the time 2021 came around, we had grown massively. the post pandemic boom was real! everybody wanted to party. however omicron had everyone in a chokehold, almost 400 ticketholders didn't show up cos 1. they were sick or 2. didn't wanna get sick.

i'll be real - i can't find the photos from this event? they must be somewhere hidden cos we defo took photos. this was our 50th party! we held it at village underground, another venue that i wanted to so bad! it was a watershed moment for black parties. magnum also gifted us a case to enjoy the night with. it was a great year and this was a great way to end it... we had no clue what was waiting for us in 2020.

there's actually so many photos to choose from, so limiting this post for december 2018 wasn't easy. we had 2 parties but the main one was hosted in xoyo, a venue i really wanted for years since i had been partying there since 2012. it was a special night, don't know why we haven't been back since tbf

in 2017 we struck a great partnership woth a venue called styx in tottenham. they gave us 3 fridays in december to celebrate our 1st year. it was sooo popular we added a 4th one. each party was better and better but freezing cold!

december is a special time for recess, i always feel like we have great parties during this time of year due to the festive szn etc etc. even though the first recess was in march 2016, the party we threw at ace hotel in december 2016 was the real beginning of the wave.

10 august 2024: tno x smib fest in the day, recess x chocolate city in the night. it was a long day in mokkum (amsterdam) but it was truly wholesome. these photos are from our persepective opposed to the vibes of the event. it was also nice to see peoeple in the crowd wearing recess garms (the meji meji collab top and the chocolate city collab top).

they do their ting in stockholm, the vibes were across 2 days and were so sweet.. they know how to turn up!!

we linked up with sixtion (paris) and everydayppl (nyc) so the crowd was a nice blend of french, british and american people.
