This blog is dedicated to posting study pics which hopefully show that studying doesn’t have to be Instagram-worthy to be effective! I have no photography training whatsoever, so often the lighting and general set up of my photos are awful, but that’s not my focus.
Quick Q&A:
How old are you? - 18
Where do you live? - In the UK
What are you studying? - I’ve just finished A-Levels (Maths, Further Maths, and Physics - I also did Spanish for a year but dropped it to focus on Physics). In October this year, I’m going to uni to study Physics.
What camera do you use? - Either my phone camera (Samsung Galaxy S5) or my iPod (5th generation) camera. I just use whichever is closest! This is why my picture quality isn’t that great aha.
What career do you want to do? - At the minute I have absolutely no idea! Depending on how my degree goes I might go into research/academia, or I might end up doing something completely different. Only time will tell!
What book are you reading currently? - Internment by Samira Ahmed
I’ll be updating this post if these answers change. My Asks are always open, so feel free to ask me anything and I’ll do my best to respond :)

So today I spent all morning and most of the afternoon watching YT videos and procrastinating but at 4pm I had a shower and then got in 3 solid hours of work. So overall it was a good day!
My new textbook (for uni) arrived which was very exciting!! I was using it today for a few questions and it had some alternative methods that I had not used before!!
I focused on a worksheet that I have to do before I go to uni. I got about a third of it done today and I had already done some before, so I should be able to finish it off in the next couple of days!! (although I do need to write it up neatly - it's currently scibbled across 8 different envelopes) It's mostly Maths but there are some applied questions too.
I am getting an early night tonight so hopefully I won't be too tired tomorrow morning and I can have a productive day!!
It’s getting darker so much earlier now! Desk lamp season is upon us :)
Today’s tasks included:
gravity and orbits revision
1d collisions revision
differentiation from first principles revision
review of basic geometry (pictured - I’m late to the pastel highlighters fan club but I absolutely adore them!)
Random side note: I started Chloe Ting’s 21 day get fit challenge yesterday. It involves using dumbbells but I feel super strong by the end of it. Getting back into some sort of routine is really helping me to be more productive :)
I hope you’re all doing well, sorry for the lack of posts recently. I keep forgetting to take pictures of my work!
(possibly an all time low for image quality - sorry about that!)
Today I didn’t do that much work (probably about 2-3 hours) but I ticked a few things off my to do list.
Tasks from today:
Finally finishing the Astrophysics flashcards (from about April/May, oops!)
Revision of exponentials, logarithms, and hyperbolic functions.
Revision of proof by induction.
Learning Python: for and while loops, if statements.
Shopping for smart clothes (white shirts, black trousers) and a few other things for uni (toiletries and a cookbook)
I hope you’re all well!! If you are also preparing to start uni and you’re feeling nervous, you are not alone! I am a bit worried about it but my friends and family are being super supportive. Everyone is in the same boat. If you need someone to chat to, feel free to DM me! Or if you prefer it to be anonymous, my asks are open :)
I hope you’ve all been enjoying a well-deserved, restful (is that a word?) summer holiday.
SO big news... A-Level results day was a few weeks ago and I got the grades required to start my Physics course in October!! I have lots of pre-work to do so expect more study photos soon.
I hope everyone else had a good results day (it was confusing with all the government policy updates ahhh but I don’t want to get too political here) and is getting ready for whatever the new academic year holds.

Summer Reading: BlacKkKlansman: A Memoir by Ron Stallworth
This story is so incredible. I first heard about it in 2018, when the film was released in cinemas. Mum and I went to watch it and were blown away (by the story and the film adaptation as well). But it has taken until 2020 for me to buy the book. It was worth the read.
Throughout the whole book I just couldn’t get over how incredible this story is and the risk the officers involved were putting themselves into. It is fascinating as well to see an insider’s perspective on the Klan: how the Klan behave among themselves is very different to how they want to be portrayed in public.
I cannot recommend this book enough. And the film is definitely worth a watch as well.
Book titles: Girl Online;Â Girl Online: On Tour;Â and Girl Online: Going Solo
Ages I would recommend this to (roughly): 13-17
Genre: Teen-fiction
Review Summary: These books are good as an escape from reality for a while. Written by Zoe Sugg, a.k.a Zoella, who is familiar with the pros and cons of life on the internet, they contain important lessons about posting online, anxiety and relationships.
The series focuses on Penny Porter, a lovable and clumsy teenager who struggles to deal with her anxiety. I couldn’t relate much to Penny (she seems a lot more extroverted and chatty than me), but I enjoyed the story nonetheless.
Girl Online
My only criticism is that for the majority of the book, Penny seems to be living in a fairy-tale. Some of the incredibly fortunate things that happen seem a little fake to me, but to be fair I didn’t pick up this book for an accurate depiction of the world. It’s great as an escape from reality for a while.
Girl Online: On Tour
The second book takes a mildly darker turn than the first. Penny really pushes herself out of her comfort zone throughout the story, which is a good contrast to the first book.
I found myself becoming frustrated by Penny for a lot of the book, because of her naive attitude. However, towards the end of the book she has become more confident and I definitely admired her for this.
Girl Online: Going Solo
This is my favourite book of the trilogy. Penny has grown so much and it really shows: in this story she is a lot more confident and willing to stand up for herself in front of others. I love the overall growth that Penny has gone through, and the end of the book made me feel so proud of her. It feels like you have been on this journey with Penny.
I am both. When I am out with friends or classmates, I am wild, friendly, and a people person. When I come home, I stay in my room most of the time, and I’m reserved. At home, I do not want to go out, but when I do, I switch being introverted into an extrovert. My peers would characterize me as an extrovert, but they are just seeing the outer me because the inner me is a shy introvert, haha.
Side note: Coraline is my favorite movie. My friend crocheted this doll for me.Â
I’m seeing my nan without social distancing for the first time in months as she’s been shielding (we’re forming a bubble as she lives alone) and I’m so excited to give her a cuddle 🥰
I did another 2 hours of vector calculus this morning. I did some problems on line, surface, and volume integrals. I’m going to ask my sister to check my working because I swear I am doing these wrong. Then I learnt about the fundamental theorem for gradients.
I’m going to attempt to start a journal tonight, and my plan is to write in it for all of July! I just need to work it into a routine...

I did 2 hours of Physics (well, vector calculus. I learnt about line integrals, surface integrals, and volume integrals) in the morning, then spent the afternoon researching laptops. I’m going to buy one for uni but the problem is I don’t understand all the tech words haha! If anyone has a recommendation, please let me know!!
I’m just going to be blunt here: the dark academia aesthetic is extremely white-centered, euro-centric, and romanticized. as students, it is essential that we are showing up for our BIPOC siblings (specifically our Black friends) in every single aspect of our lives including our online spaces. as a part of the studyblr community, our tendency to be consumers is pretty inevitable- whether we’re shopping for cute stickers to decorate our planners or looking for the next novel to read, it is time that we acknowledge the importance of where that money is going towards. I URGE YOU TO STOP BUYING ON AMAZON! here is a non-comprehensive list I’ve put together of BIPOC small and/or independent businesses!
please feel free to reblog this and add onto this list (obviously keeping in mind the criteria I’ve previously mentioned) to spread the support for our BIPOC creatives and business owners. (the ones in *starred italics* are my personal favorites, but you should really check every business out!)
Art (mostly prints but some also include stickers and other products)
Today was the first day in a while that I did a decent amount of work aha. I guess it’s because I am really choosing to do it? I did a few hours of electromagnetism self-study and I’m definitely getting better at the vector calculus!
I hope you’re all doing well. Sorry for the inconsistent posting recently. I have been enjoying a break!

Since I don’t need to focus as much whilst typing these, I’m continuing my ‘getting into’ aka ‘listening through the discography of’ for Iron Maiden, whose music I’ve known for a while but not well. Reallly enjoying it so far!
For almost all courses, there are likely to be some facts that must be memorised. This can seem daunting, but today I’m going to share a technique I use to help me memorise information!
I used this technique recently to memorise information about stellar spectral classes (A-Level Physics), but in the past I have used a similar version to learn information and dates for GCSE History. It also works well for learning vocabulary for other languages. See below for a step-by-step guide!
Step 1: Identify the information you want to memorise.
It may sound obvious, but what I mean by this is to be specific. Choose a specific section to work on today, and set aside an appropriate amount of time to dedicate to this. I wanted to memorise the information in this table, and I set aside about an hour to do this.
Step 2: Create flashcards with a question/prompt on one side, and the answer on the other side.
These don’t need to be fancy. I used some paper and a black Biro. I also added some colour to a few flashcards because I thought this would help me memorise it, but this was only an afterthought.
I made several sets of flashcards for this information: one set for intrinsic colour, another for temperature, one for prominent absorption lines, and one which had the spectral classes on it that I had to put in order of descending temperature.
For some subjects you would only have one set of flashcards. If this is the case, try ‘chunking’ the flashcards into a few groups of about 5-10 flashcards each. Breaking down the task can help you learn as you are really focusing on one section at a time.
Step 3: Write out the answers, and then mark them!
Choose one group of flashcards to focus on first. Then shuffle them up and lay them out in front of you with the question face up. On a piece of scrap paper, write down the answers to each question in turn.
Once you have done all that you can, turn over the flashcards one at a time. Tick or correct each answer in a different coloured pen as you go through. This will help you identify which information you really need to focus on.
Step 4: Repeat, repeat, repeat!
Fold over the top of your paper (so you can’t see your previous answers) and repeat step 3. Don’t forget to shuffle the cards!
Repeat at least twice (so you have done it a total of 3 times). This may seem tedious, but I find repeating this step really helps me to feel more confident about the answers and retain them in my memory.
Step 5: Move on to the next groups of flashcards.
Repeat steps 3-4 with the next groups of flashcards. Repeat this step until you have covered all the flashcards that you set aside time for.
Step 6: Write out the whole table.
This step only really applies to information in a table format. Write the headings for each column, then try to write out the full table from memory. This step can be quite time consuming if your information contains a lot of words, but I believe it is worth the effort!
When you have completed as much as you can, refer to the original table to fill in any blanks in a different coloured pen. Tick/correct the answers you have written.
Step 7: Plan ahead.
Write in your diary/planner when you are next going to work on this again. Memorising information takes time, and you have to do it more than once. If you can, try to come back to it every other day for a week, and then ease off. Eventually you will be so confident in the information that you only have to return to it every few months!
To store the flashcards, I use a couple of paper clips. For thicker sets of flashcards, bulldog clips work well. Store them in a safe place (e.g. a folder or drawer) so you know where they are next time you need them!
This technique can be adapted depending on the nature of the information you are memorising, but the three main components are: writing out, checking answers in a different colour, and repetition.
