It’s time to re-open, let’s get those dispensers up and running! Since there’s a chance that your regular maintainance schedule has been interupted over the last year we’ll start from scratch.

CLEANING AROUND THE DISPENSER

Dispensers should only be cleaned with soap and water. If you use a steam cleaner or other chemicals to clean your shower area, we recommend covering your dispenser bottles to keep them from being exposed to harsh chemicals.

CLEANING YOUR BOTTLES

Be sure to completely wash out your dispenser bottles at least once every two months. The bottles easily pop out of the brackets so that they can be cleaned. Soap and shampoo bottles do not need to be cleaned as often as lotion and conditioner bottles.

CLEANING YOUR PUMP AND SPRAY TOPS

The pump tops are very durable and should last six months to a year. To keep your pump tops working properly, they should be cleaned two or three times per month by simply pumping warm water through them. CLICK HERE to view a video we created to walk you through the process.

Spray dispensers require a little more routine maintenance than pump tops. The sprayer top should be wiped down daily with a warm towel as hair spray is a sticky substance and can clog the sprayer if not cleaned regularly.

Once a month, we suggest you either replace the sprayer top with a new one or unscrew the sprayer and pump warm water through it. If the sprayers are not spraying a fine mist all the time, then you need to be cleaning or replacing them more often. Your spray coils should be replaced every six months.

CLEANING YOUR BRACKETS

Dispenser brackets should also be cleaned regularly to prevent residue build up and the best time to do this is when you’re exchanging bottles.

Overall, a regular maintenance program will increase the life of your dispensers and give your members & guests a more pleasant experience in your locker room.

Winter is here...is your skin prepared? Extreme cold temperatures, harsh winter winds, and shorter periods of sunlight all add up to a winter climate that can be tough on skin. With that kind of sun exposure, along with our “mile high” altitude, if there’s one thing we know about here, it’s the importance of sunscreen. Even in the dead of winter, Colorado residents are encouraged to slather sunscreen on any exposed parts of their body, like hands and face, any time they plan to spend time outdoors. Let’s Get Physical (Or Chemical?)

Last year, we mentioned that a 2011 FDA ruling mandates that an effective sunscreen must be able to protect both UVA and UVB rays that emanate from the sun. Prior to that, sunscreens only had to provide protection for UVB rays. However, there is more than one way to block both UVA and UVB rays. While some sunscreens offer physical protection, others take a chemical approach to shielding people from harmful UV radiation.

Physical sunscreen sits on top of the skin and works by using filters that reflect, scatter, and block UVA and UVB rays. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are two ingredients that are commonly used in physical sunscreen. One of the biggest advantages of a physical sunscreen is that it begins working as soon as it is applied, unlike chemical sunscreens that often require being applied at least 20 minutes prior to sun exposure. Additionally, non comedogenic and oil free physical sunscreens are ideal for people with sensitive skin or who are prone to acne, skin irritation, and rashes. Chemical sunscreens, on the other hand, uses chemical carbon compounds that convert UV radiation to heat, which is naturally released by the body. Oxybenzone and octinoxate are two commonly-found ingredients in a chemical sunscreen. Chemical sunscreen spreads easily, meaning that smaller amounts can cover larger areas of the body than physical sunscreen can. Also, it is more resistant to sweat and water than physical sunscreen. Perhaps best of all, chemical sunscreen won’t cause significant streaking, so your guests can enjoy their time in the sun without having to worry about unsightly splotches.
