i was reading zodiac academy and i just learnt about this thing called 'nebula allies'. they are friends who seem to understand you almost from the first point of contact. someone who makes your energy soar and always seeks the best for you in life. nebula allies are the deepest kinds of friends you can find. and i love this.

also I felt like happy place was kind of empowering? like it's ok if you realize you don't want to do something. it's ok if you need to quit or give up. that's not bad thing. I don't know I felt like all of those reviewers completely missed the point of the book. I am a girl and I did not think the message was to leave your high paying job for man. ughhh it just frustrates me
I just reread Happy Place.
As with all of her books, I think Emily Henry does an excellent job of writing an unreliable narrator who comes to realize how some of their actions may have accidentally negatively affected those around them.
Man, this book… I relate to the main character in many ways.. which, I mean, I also experience with all of her books, but still.
Something that’s on my mind that takes place in this book (spoiler warning!) is that the main character spends so much conscious energy trying to avoid conflict in her most important relationships that she accidentally comes across as uncaring or uninvested, like she doesn’t care enough to fight for the relationship. I became a little worried when I read this, that I have done something very similar in my own life.
When you grow up in a house with yelling (the bad kind, the kind that isn’t really repaired after conflict) I’m sure it’s not uncommon to develop habits to avoid such a thing. At least that’s what I’ve experienced. (It’s so nice to live in a home where there is no yelling, even if there’s an argument. I know it’s possible to have calm arguments/discussions now, because I’ve experienced it.)
Another note. I love Harriet as a main character. This book also made me realize, I don’t think I really have a “happy place” that I go to or envision in my mind like some people do. I’ve lived in so many places and my opinions of those places have changed enough over time that I don’t think I’d ever want to “go back.” I wonder if anyone else feels this way. In a way, it makes me sad. I want to have a happy place. I guess I’ll make one.
that one scene in a book when character A's friend knows something is wrong and they don't even ask and just be there silently or squeezing character A's hand to let them know they're there for them.
I read somewhere that if you feel negative emotions looking at someone else living your dream life, the universe will think you don't want it. So try to be happy for them. No matter how painful it is.
