A Silly Girl Reads Homestuck

*stops timer* Four years. Four years I’ve had this blog and this is the first time anyone has asked this. I had thought no one ever would, then suddenly here you are.

I’m sorry! I just enjoyed talking to people about Homestuck as I was reading through it and he was one of the unfortunates to be stuck listening to my yapping. I didn’t give away the story too much, it was mostly just gushing over characters. I did stop once I had it in my mind that he should do a liveblog and my gushing just became pestering to read it until he caved to my whims. 8D

I’ve been seeing a lot of people upset with the ending of Homestuck. Some are holding out hope that the epilogue “fixes” it.

Personally I’m perfectly fine with the ending. I knew it was quite likely that the ending would not match everyone’s expectations, or even just simply my expectations. So as the ending approached I geared myself to enjoy whatever it is we got. I didn’t do this to “settle”, I did this because I didn’t want to sour my own experience with disappointment or outrage and I respect Hussie too much to hold him accountable for those feelings.

I guess I just wanted to see the whole picture, to see everything at once. Not see bits and pieces spaced out throughout the comic. It’s fine, though. I’ve accepted it. That’s just how Homestuck is with basically everything.

So. Here we are. At the end of Homestuck.

As I said in my audio reaction there are still some things I am left wondering about. Mostly things involving Caliborn/Lord English. I’m still not sure how he became a buff, pool ball-eyed monster or when that fight between him and the human kids took place. I’m not even really sure how he was defeated in the end? Plus what’s the deal with Gamzee? Maybe watching the flash again (or reading the whole comic again) will help answers these questions (or Heaven forbid, give me more).

I think I do need to reread the comic, though. Get a feel for the pacing of the story without any of the breaks. Right now I feel like the ending came too fast, or it’s missing something. I hope another look at the entirety of the comic will help soothe this underwhelming feeling I currently have.

That said this has been an amazing adventure and I enjoyed the ending! I love this comic dearly. It’s not a perfect piece of art, but it’s really close! I want to thank every single one of you who have joined me on this adventure. Just like Hussie, I don’t care if you’ve been with me from the beginning or only discovered me a couple of days ago, thank you. I never would have imagined so many people would find my thoughts insightful or funny. I’m glad I could be entertaining for all of you. Thank you for sharing your own insights and interesting fandom stuff as I made my journey through this story.

There are a couple of things I’ve been thinking about doing with this blog now that the end has come. If Hussie does post an epilogue in the future I will, of course, post a reaction to it here. but other than that I’ve been thinking about doing a liveblog of this liveblog! What do you guys think? Would you be interested in seeing me react to my old posts? Laughing at my own naivety and groaning at how wrong I was? Other than that there’s still the 413 followers art event I need to finish. Sorry it’s taken me so long, you all have probably forgotten about it by now! There’s also an ask that has been sitting in my inbox for literal years that I intended to answer once everything was done. Lastly there’s a good friend of mine who I -ahem- encouraged to start his own liveblog of Homestuck. You should expect to be seeing a post announcing that soon enough. ;D

Turns out I didn’t. I was so close a couple of times, too!

The green x’s are special. A Vriska’s character arc came to a satisfying conclusion, but not the alpha one. Davesprite never realized his self worth, but when he became Davepetasprite^2 they did.

There’s also little things that could be true, but we never saw them for a fact so I didn’t mark them off (ghost!Terezi and ghost!Vriska may have ended up in the bubbles together, but we never get to hear what they say or see what happens to them after, for example). Then there’s also some boxes that just come down to a matter of opinion so while you might have marked them off I didn’t.

So that’s how the tadpole gets up there! It gets shot up by the volcano, O.K. I get it.

And it’s metamorphosing into a frog. Slowly but surely.
