✦ ▓ AND WHO GOES THERE? oh, it’s just [ MACE TYRELL ]. some say [ HIS ] resemblance to [ ANDRE BRAUGHER ] is almost uncanny, but the [ FIFTY-FOUR ] year old has been in the capital for [ TWENTY YEARS ]. many suspect that they are the notorious [ ASSOCIATE ] of the [ TYRELL ] family: perhaps that has made them [ DENSE ] && [ CREDULOUS ] of late, when they used to be so [ JOVIAL ] && [ COMMITTED ]. during the daylight hours, [ MACE ] can be found working as a [ PRESIDENT OF TYRELL AND ASSOCIATES ], but when night falls over king’s landing, they are best remembered listening to [ KISS FROM A ROSE BY SEAL ]. may the gods be with them in these dark streets.

olenna is not immune to devastation, only a few short months ago did she face one of the worst in losing her eldest child. and while she would be terribly distraught if luthor were to go, she knew that pain would not be comparable to how mace must be feeling. olenna knew her children; knew the way mace looked at alerie. this was difficult. devastating. absolutely unimaginable. 

she pities him and stays patient. it’s not wise to have him alone, not before they were going to see alerie one last time. olenna excuses the rest of the party to leave for the cemetery first so she could be with him. so she could talk to him.  ‘ mace, what’s going through your mind ? ’

never did mace believe he would be in this sort of position. he once believed they would be like the couple who pass away moments from each other --- even joking about who is going to take their last breath first. the jokes feel lost, unforgiving, cruel. and now he was, alone without her by his side. the least he could do was give her a peaceful and quiet funeral --- no matter how hard this day was.

For as long as she could remember she had always been the type to keep busy. Always on the go with one tasks already lined up for whenever she completed one. She had an aversion to sitting still when it felt too much like she was wasting time that she could be channelling into something more productive. But now she knew that her need to keep busy was a coping mechanism, that ache in her chest only bearable when her mind was occupied elsewhere or she had some company that warmed her heart and combated the pain. Work had filled in the gap well and she was grateful for every new case that came across her desk but even though she was working overtime and putting even more hours into it, there was still too much time in the day left unaccounted for. 

As tempting as it was to simply lose herself in any activity she could, she knew better than to neglect herself and instead chose to view mealtimes as a chance to catch up with family members. When it came to her father she couldn’t help but worry, knowing that the loss of his wife had hit him hard despite the brave front that he put on. So once she’d reached a suitable point on her most recent case, she’d gone to his home and called out after letting herself in. “Dad?” Light steps carried her further into the room, tired smile touching rosy lips as she spotted him. “Have you eaten? I thought we could get dinner together, my treat. Maybe from that little place down the street that you like.”

when his sister died and news hit his ears, mace disappeared into the study at his home. spending time to mourn in private. however that cannot be done with his wife. mace had to make himself ready and available to handle the pain and hoping others around him will see that he’ll be doing just fine. after all, he still has his own kids and their well-being will always be his number one priority. ensuring that they know he’ll be just fine, that he’ll be there for them no matter what, is what’s important. 

and yet, that doesn’t stop the absence that his wife had left. pictures she delicately placed throughout the house, walking through the house, he could almost hear her in every room, her laughter moving throughout the house as if she were still there. a reminder of how empty it now feels. time seems to move faster as the days go on, the thought of taking care of himself never was as important as his kids, as his wife, but without her to remind him on certain manners, it seems he’s lost himself only to find himself when his children or mother were around. 

Watching the sadness that came over her father, for the first time in her life she felt unchecked anger. Not simply the odd frustration she felt when a case was particularly difficult to tackle or the annoyance that came with mild inconvenience. No, this was fury that scorched her insides and demanded retribution. It was anger at whoever had taken her mother from her. Anger at whoever had caused her father so much pain by taking his wife from him. The burning need for revenge and retribution startled her slightly as she wondered where along the lines she had begun to favour violence when she usually tried to avoid it. 

Perhaps it had started with the loss of her aunt and the rawness of the pain from what she had been forced to witness making her wanting to lash out and inflict it upon others. But the anger soon melts away as her father wipes away her tear. His gentle touch calming the storm of emotions inside her and restoring some of the softness that felt more natural. Smile flicked over her lips, quick to be pulled back towards something close to normality ( or as close as situation would allow ) and reassure him that it was all fine. “They’re busy, I don’t mind waiting a little while.” She had sympathy for them all, it couldn’t be easy to treat others after such a shake up and she wasn’t about to put pressure on them.

The numbness had faded enough that worry for her brothers finally begun to make itself known and as much as she wanted to jump up and frantically search for them she knew the sooner her arm was seen to the sooner that they could leave. But there was no point in keeping her father there when he could go and look for them, soothe his own worries. “I’ll be okay here if you want to go track them down.” Weak smile touched her lips, feeling more like herself after speaking with him and reassured that even though her feelings were painful, she would much rather be with them than without them. “I’m not going anywhere, promise.”

there was a lot of things that he was feeling right now --- and none of it was good. mace has always been happy-go-lucky kind of guy, one who just follows through the day, looking towards the bright side of tragedy. but what bright side was there in this? when he lost his sister, the pain wasn’t nearly as intense. the lost was more manageable for he had alerie by his side, and now what? 

he has his kids, that’s what’s important right now. and it was good to know that his little girl was safe --- but harmed. at least she was getting help --- see? the bright side of things. a part of him didn’t want to just leave her with the nurses and doctors around, wanting to stay as if that could stop the bad from touching her. and yet, leaving her with no one wasn’t going to suit him. “ hold on, give me two minutes. ” mace quickly moved away from margaery through the crowd to practically pull a poor nurse towards margaery, rapidly explaining that she needs to be checked out immediately.

‘ they’re fine, ’  jon repeats to him.  ‘ take deep breaths and repeat that a few times for me. ’  they held his wrist to take his pulse the thrum-thrum of his heartbeat a little too fast for jon’s comfort. they reached for a bottle of water left by the seat and cracked it open, holding it out to him,  ‘ mr tyrell, have some water. ’  

jon continued to monitor the man for a moment and took a look around the medical tent, searching for mace’s kids. it didn’t seem like they were anywhere in their eyeline.  ‘ last i checked margaery was getting treated so she should be around. though, you should rest a little more. if i hear anything about them i’ll let you know, okay ? ’ 

mace slowly nodded, doing as the young kid asked. repeating those words over and over again, they’re fine. perhaps if he says that enough, he might believe it. regardless, mace worries that the only way for him to stop worrying won’t be until he sees his children with his own eyes. there was a slight hesitation, wondering if someone needed it more than he did, and yet, he took the bottle. “ thank you jon but please, you can call me mace. ” 

“Uncle Mace?” Elinor worriedly calls out, using the very last of her strength in an effort to make her way towards the elderly male. She’s relieved to see a member of her family but the tranquility is brief when her cousins’ whereabouts are questioned. She and Margaery had been together for much of the evening, only to be separated in the chaos. Elinor has no idea where the older Tyrell female is. Sadly.

“Not since Margaery and I split up. I’ve been looking everywhere for her but they won’t let me leave.” Contrary to belief, Elinor isn’t the fragile woman many label her to be. She knows her strengths and plays to them when needed. It’s how she’s survived so long. Despite having cleaner hands than most in the Tyrell family.

the voice had a vast familiarity to him as his gaze moved toward her, recognizing the girl as one of his cousin’s cousin’s kids --- the name, however, gets a bit fudged with. megga perhaps? no, that wasn’t right. elinor, yes. of course it’s elinor. a small smile crossed his face --- happy to see the girl, and yet he looked over her shoulder in hopes to see one of his own children. 

anya wasn’t blind to the fact that not all wounds were physical, that the mental pain could be just as harrowing - if not moreso - than anything physical ever could be. anya likewise wasn’t blind to the fact that she was grossly ill-equipped to treat those particular wounds. “good,” she said with a nod of her head, as if anything at all right then could be considered good. “just let me double check.” it was selfish and she knew it but anya waynwood made a point of avoiding situations that made her feel out of her depth and this was by far one of them. but treating others was, in its own weird way, comforting; the ability to look at a person and find wounds that she could fix helped her maintain control over her emotions even in the most trying of times. if she could triage someone in a battlezone, she could handle this. “no one’s allowed to leave without being checked. your health is just as important as everyone else’s here, especially now that the worst injuries have been dealt with.” she sounded a bit like she was lecturing one of her children, she realized belatedly, once again finding herself falling back on what she knew. the corners of her mouth twisted down, embarrassed. before she could think, she was blurting out the words. “i lost my first husband, too. we were just kids. this world is a cruel place and i am sorry that your family couldn’t be safe from this.”

it was never much of a secret that olenna treated mace differently from his sisters. she loved all her children, but mace reminded olenna too much of luthor, when she wanted all of them to be more like her. and so mace was unfortunately always an afterthought, even when his children bore the tyrell name. that doesn’t mean, however, that olenna was completely dismissive of her son, let alone her son’s pain, as another one of the tyrells, this time his own loving wife, was killed right under their noses.  ‘ mace, ’  she said, placing a hand on his shoulder.  ‘ my darling, it’s time to head over to the funeral. ’ 

weren’t weddings meant to be a celebration, not a devastation? mace and alerie once joked about dying. how one day they would be the fun in funeral but there is nothing fun with losing your other half, something that mace has learned, something he wishes none of his kids have to know. when his younger sister died, he was able to disappear for a day, let her death sink in then reemerge the same as he once was. this was vastly different. there was no hiding when his kids lost their mother, no reemerging with the idea that the day will began bright and shiny as it once was. no. this day was cloudy, a day fit for a funeral. 

the adrenaline just wouldn’t leave, it seemed. he’d been drunk and happy and stupid when the chaos of the night all began, but he’d pulled them out of it and they’d escaped and they were okay but his heart rate didn’t seem to have gotten the memo yet. loras tyrell never lost a fight, never backed down from anything, yet he’d been too inebriated and too outnumbered and his skin itched to paint the town red to make up for it. but then again, maybe feeling all of that was simply easier than confronting the fact that his mother - no. he wouldn’t even think it. not now.

and so loras was pacing, walking from one end to the other of the hallway leading up to the medical tent. he had his fair share of bumps and bruises and a nasty cut on his forehead that might need stitches, but he didn’t quite care. he was a boxer, these were all marks of the trade; let the medical team take care of the people with worse injuries or who couldn’t stomach their minor ones. maybe if he kept moving, he could keep his mind of his mother. maybe if he kept moving, he could outwalk the growing pit in his stomach of worry for the rest of his family.

somehow he’d missed his own father’s nearby presence, but the second he heard his voice, heard his own name, he was wheeling around and all but racing back down thee hallway and into the medical bay. “dad!” loras called, feeling so much younger than his twentynine years. “i’m here, dad. are you - did you hear - have you seen anyone else?” his usual eloquence was gone, tongue tripping over questions he was too afraid to ask and a hand reached out to grab onto mace’s wrist, holding onto it like it was an anchor.

the wedding was once meant to be such a beautiful thing. when alerie and himself found that the event thrown by lysa arryn and petyr baelish, they were absolutely thrilled. after all, wasn’t love just a beautiful thing? it was amusing that they would call a meeting of a nine families for something like this and yet, mace found it to be romantic. not anymore. the events that occurred this evening is going to leave a scar, and mace isn’t sure he’ll be able to handle such a thing. the death of his wife --- no. he doesn’t want to think about that. not now. denial is a beautiful thing in a time of need.

mace’s focus had to be on his children, learning the whereabouts of all four --- every second that passes and no sign of his kids was a second wasted. a second more of dread, worry, that filled him. even with rhaegar’s kid, jon, informing him that margaery was alive but injured wasn’t enough. actually seeing the kids is the only thing that will get him to settle down, the only thing that will calm his nerves.  

She’d always prided herself on being strong perhaps not in the typical sense where most seemed to link stoicism to strength but she knew that she was far from weak. The notion that emotions left a person vulnerable was one that she’d always shunned but in that moment, full of grief and hurt and rage, she could concede that she could perhaps finally see why others thought the way that they did. It all felt so raw and she almost found herself wishing that she wouldn’t have to feel again.

Her life had always been a delicate balancing acting of head over heart but still allowing her feelings and morals some sway in her decision. But the temptation now was to choose logic and shun emotion. The temptation was fleeting when as soon as her father spoke that familiar nickname, she found herself crumbling. It was as though the dam had broken and once in his embrace she allowed the tears to flow. Shaky breath was pulled in, taking comfort and drawing strength from his presence.

By the time he’s pulled back, she’d composed herself. Light fingers wiping away the few stray tears before she places a reassuring hand on her father’s arm. “Just my arm, Jon saw to it earlier. I’m just waiting for it to be checked.” There’s hesitation over her next words, a knot in her stomach forming over having to be the one to break the news about her mother, but she still lets soft words slip from her lips. “Dad, do you know?”

the head of household was a myth as far as mace was concern. alerie and mace always did things as a team, they raised their children together. they worked together, had each other’s backs through it all. there were the minor arguments but a system was in place where they never went to bed angry, always talking it all out at the end of the night, no matter how late. and now? they once had a plan in place in case something happened to them when the kids were young --- but it was never if something happened to one of them. and now? alerie is gone in a blink of an eye and mace can’t recall his last words to her.

his throat felt tight --- thinking about her hurt. it hurt far more than he ever thought it could. it was time to just focus --- focus on his little girl in front of him. that was far more important right now, at this very moment. he had done his best in protecting her from the cruel actions the world has to offer --- though, considering the other family business, his little girl would experience much of the world him and alerie sought to protect his children from. but, he has faith in his girl --- in all of his kids. that they will do just fine in anything and everything they do.

mace tyrell is claiming 6 points during 06/20 through 06/27 period.

Pleasant conversation had been stalled by the room being turned to black and there’s some quip on his tongue to cut through the silence. A moment later he’s pulling out his lighter, only to notice and extra body in the room. The intruder was dealt with swiftly when for all he preferred words as his weapon of choice, he’d earned the right to choose them over violence. A dull thud echoes as the body hits the floor and he crouches for a moment, lighter flickering across the features of the would be assailant. There’s an unsettling realisation that he recognises the man but has no knowledge of the plan, it dawning on him that someone in the Lannister faction is acting without his knowledge. He would deal with that later and his suspicions later.

He rose smoothly to his feet, seemingly unaffected by it all. Blazer was pulled straight once more, shoulders setting themselves back in a show of confidence before he spoke. Voice cut clearly through the quiet, authoritative tone noticeable within them. He always had known how to take charge. “We should barricade the door.” With a click the lighter flickers into life once more and he uses it to motion to a table. “This ought to do it.”

what was once suppose to be a lovely evening that was filled with old friends and new --- things went haywire. voices of his company rose in concern of what was going on --- a power outage? someone pulling a prank? either one is what mace had offered. but when the thud of an unknown body seemed to echo around the library, perhaps his hopeful nature might not come in handy right now. the important thing was to remain calm. this could all still be some kind of prank? perhaps --- but perhaps it’s better to be safe.

Despite the depth of the wound that she had received to her arm, she had convinced herself she couldn’t feel a thing. Her strength of will seemed to have ensured that she was desensitised to whatever pain should have come from the cut. Or perhaps her body had simply chosen numbness over the overwhelming grief that would undoubtedly come. Either way, for perhaps the first time in her life she was glad of it. 

Her emotions had always been something she had considered her strength and she had never been afraid to show them when she had never considered them a weakness like some seemed to. But for once she was grateful for the hollowness that had taken root in her heart. Perhaps it should have scared her but instead it simply meant that with that echoing emptiness in place, there was no room for any kind of grief or sadness. Usually bright doe eyes were staring blankly at a wall as she waited to be seen ( anything to keep the image of her mother from her mind ) only for them to spark with something close to hope at the sound of her father’s voice.

A wave of relief washed over her to fill the void that had been sitting in her chest but it brought other emotions along with it and soon tears were pricking at her eyes. The didn’t fall though, not when she was using every bit of resilience in her to keep something of a brave face on dainty features. “Dad.” Voice was soft as she rose to her feet, not for the first time grateful that she’d inherited her mother’s grace. A thought that caused a painful tightening in her chest. Her hand was raised to catch the attention of the parent she had left. “I’m here.”

a voice, familiar and warm --- one that he could never forget. the sound of his daughter. it was enough for him to close his eyes and take a deep breath. comfort in just hearing her voice was all that he needed in that very moment. mace turned towards the young girl, prepared to look at her and see her mother all across her face. margie always did look the most like alerie and now? the similarity was clear --- but margaery’s alive. and that’s what really matters.

“ margie, ” a childhood nickname that he has yet to grown out of calling her. one created out of fondness and now, stated out of concern, worry, relief. he closed the space --- it was too far for his comfort --- between the pair of them to wrap her in a hug. one child is accounted for. one weight is lifted off his shoulders. now he needs to keep an eye out for any of his boys.
