An Exercise In Futurology
I close my eyes and there we are, wrapped in freshly shared linens, surrounded by all that is constantly growing. Maybe you tilt your phone screen towards me and show me a picture that you think I’d find funny. Maybe I do, and maybe I ask a question. Maybe you respond, and maybe we converse for a moment before returning to our sharing of the solitude— a ritual I can only hope will become familiar in its endless novelty, the dulcet strangeness of our voices settling into the walls with the moonlight, joining the fiberglass and the wood beams that keep us warm, that hold us upright. Sometimes it is so hard to open my eyes again. When I do it is not what I see here that disappoints me. Rather, it is that I have in my mind so many questions, and the sound of my voice alone just reverberates off the glass.
