Tripitaka feels bad just leaving the Font Demon (FD) to the other demons "they'll kill him, Monkey! I made him protect us, I cant let him die!" so she convinces the others to let him join them on their quest, after all, no one can say no to Trip's big tearful eyes.
Sandy accepts their new demon friend immediately. She relates to the light haired, socially challenged monster that the others fear so she goes out of her way to show him kindness and include him in the group. When FD askes her "why are you nice to me, I am a monster?" she says "I was a monster too once" and the two bond over their origins.
Pigsy is a lot more cautious, he and Monkey actually bond over their distrust for the demon. He is outraged when FD "messes" with the food he was cooking (because Pigsy is a talented cook and foodie, NOT because he is fat), yelling and screaming about how FD probably poisoned it. Tripitaka and Sandy stand up for FD "Pigsy, you have no proof he did anything!", so Pigsy says "you want proof? Fine!" and he tries a spoonful of the "poisoned" meal... then another... and another until the bowel is empty. It turns out FD has a natural talent for cooking. Pigsy demands FD tells him what he did and it's not long before FD earns the title of Sous Chef.
Monkey is against bringing FD with them from the start (there is a lot of pouting), making sure to threaten FD with a fate worse than death if he puts even one toe out of line.
He gets why Sandy accepts FD "look at them, weirdos, they're practically twins" (He gets a glare from Trip for this).
He feels betrayed when Pigsy finally accepts FD "I thought we were bros, bro!" "We still could be, bro. FD isn't that bad, you just need to give him a chance" "No, from this moment on we're are no longer bros" "Bro..." "Goodbye... bro" (it's a very heartbreaking moment)
He doesn't like Tripitaka talking to FD, and constantly follows them around, interrupting their conversations and never letting the two be alone together. When Trip gets angry with Monkey for being cruel to FD and for not trusting her, Monkey says he is just jealous trying to protect her, this just angers her more.
He also feels like he is being ignored and replaced as the rest of the group crowd round their exciting new friend
It takes FD almost dying to save Tripitaka the others to change Monkey's mind, "you know... for a demon... you're pretty brave and... not a *terrible* fighter.. I guess..." Monkey is able to admit that maaybe FD isn't so bad, but he still has a reputation to maintain so he says "if you betray us, I will still end you" Monkey's newfound care for FD only grows when FD replies "if I betray you, I'll beat you to it"
Tripitaka pulls everyone in for a group hug, Monkey loves it tolerates it
