The neuances of both of those ships are so intricate and complex, not to mention contain factors that literally have no real world parallel.
People are allowed to say they are disgusted by something without that being a judgement on the people who donât.
Thatâs the thing about people. âLive and let liveâ does not mean that you like or even approve of what someone else enjoys or does. It simply means that your opinion of the thing does not impact your opinion of the person, and that you are not going to bother them for it.
Point of fact, Anon, you are the one attacking someone, making accusations, and casting judgement on someone for their objective opinions.
Maybe we all need to look a little deeper at things that upset us, and see if thatâs even what weâre looking at, at all. And that weâre not making an instinctive and hypocritical reaction to a misunderstanding. Communication is difficult. Human beings are all so different from each other.
There are so many things in this world that are truly terrible and need to be addressed. And sometimes the reality of those things is very daunting, and the idea of taking them on seems impossible. So we go after things we can claim are comparable in order to feel like weâre doing something. We owe it to ourselves and each other to make sure that we are spending the energy of our indignation on things that deserve it.
In addition, Magnus cares about Alec unconditionally, and doesnât take him for granted. Jace does too, but takes Alec for granted far too many times for them to have any chance of a healthy relationship.

This is not a ship war. The point is that ship wars are ridiculous. Especially the Malec vs Jalec debate. Both have appeal, and both have problems. Both are far too complex to pigeon hole into âbetterâ or âworseâ. Not to mention, that there are enough gaps in canon, that you can fill in whatever hand waving you want.
Bashing something someone likes, in order to say that the thing you like is better or the only good thing, is not a sustainable way to interact with people. Too many people seem to think that in order for something they like to be worth anything, everything else has to be worthless. That they can only be good if everyone else is evil.
Life is too complicated and people are too messy to bicker over why someone elseâs ship is âbadâ and yours is âbetterâ. Weâre better off talking about why we like the things we like. And if we disagree, we can just say âoh, I never interpret it that way, thatâs interesting.â And move forward.
There doesnât need to be this undercurrent of accusations in every conversation about everything. Itâs exhausting. Pleading your case and stating disclaimers every time you mention that you like something.
(And as a reminder. Finding the love of your life does not mean that you can not love anyone else in the world in any way. And loving your family and prioritizing them, is not a slight against your significant other. All sorts of emotions and truths can coexist within a person and their life.)
