Summary: With enough free time on his hands, Chief Analyst Ogata Hyakunosuke would rather invest it on colleague Sugimoto Saichi. That’s it, until Sugimoto decides to put conditions for their relationship for reasons Ogata believes he can, after all, fathom.

This was the first fanfic published in the Golden Kamuy category in FFnet; we were the ones who actually requested the site to create it. RavenTears finished writing it in almost one go (around November - early December 2018) as part of a larger story, and as we waited for FFnet to add the corresponding category, I began translating it to post in my own AO3 account. RavenTears always gives me due credit for betaing her fics (while truthfully mentioning at least once that I do so in spite of… not being a fan of any of her OTPs in any fandom she writes in), but please allow me to take some extra credit this time by adding that, besides proofreading, I also edit them and often rewrite small passages for pacing and narrative flow. The very same reason any typos, mistakes, wrong grammar, and now mistranslations you might find in her fics… are also my responsibility. Though those are completely unintentional, of course.

The fic is now complete and thanks to the support from its readers, it has a sequel now (the currently WiP River). As I mentioned above, RavenTears wrote Falling In as the first part of a larger story -the reason why there are several details and plot points left unattended in that fic-; just after finishing it, though, she got busy in real life and wasn’t sure she’d be able to write the sequel.
