Any tips on making pre-naruto Akatsuki OC?*

I wrote this post about a month ago for making an Akatsuki OC in general, but you may still find it useful.

As for tips specific to pre-naruto Akatsuki (but not Yahiko’s akatsuki):

Make sure that they die or leave the akatsuki in time for the canon character who replaces them to join.

Make them an S ranked missing nin and the skills that go with that level of ninja.

Give them a personality that fits both being an S ranked missing nin and a member of the akatsuki.

Make sure that it makes sense for Pein to get them to join (largely linked to being S ranked, but also whether their skills would work well with their intended partner, if they’ll listen to orders etc).

(Optional) Give them a reason to want to be in the akatsuki (Deidara was more or less forced into joining).

There should be no more than 10 members in the akatsuki (less than 10 is fine as long as there is a reason for it).

Pein, Konan and Zetsu will definitely be members, though it’s not advisable to use any of them as partners for your OC.

Kakazu killed four of his partners, so he is a good option, though your OC may not survive too long working with him. I don’t think it was stated in canon exactly when he joined the akatsuki, but I would imagine that it would have been several years before the series start.

I’m not sure when Kisame joined either, but he was obviously part of the organisation (and reasonably well trusted) before Itachi joined, so he could be your OCs partner too if you don’t go too far (say 8-10 years) before the series start.

*Cough* Invading*Cough* but if you’re doing Anime Only, Juzo Biwa (another Seven Mist Swordsmen) was Itachi’s first Akatsuki partner. However Juzo died protecting Itachi and Kisame soon became Itachi’s new partner. -Mod Kana

Sasori worked with Orochimaru, but if your OC is around when Orochimaru is not, then Sasori could also be used as their partner.

The Village That Went Mad

+ Karl and a very magical book that lets him travel through time and space to witness stories happen in person. The book is blank at first, but as he narrates events the book fills with words. Once he says “the end” he is teleported back home!

Why does the book have the same swirly symbol? Who is the author of such a whimsical storybook? Could a homestuck reference explain that*blah blah he is the author blah blah the book went through time blah blah*

Karl becomes used to it and treats it like a gameshow/reality tv show, perhaps bc his character has ability to fourth wall break and interact w meta and audience, and then goes to tell the tale in an entertaining way to his pals. He Probably knows no one would believe he time traveled or understands the importance of keeping it a fable(?)
