Summery:
Grace had thought he came to terms with everything. The fact he would never go home had always been there since his pelt was stolen in college along with his laptop. He had been resigned to the longing he’d always feel, but at the very least he could visit it and his brother was there. He had to come to terms again with the fact he’d die in an ocean of stars, but stars weren't the same as the ocean he was born in. He never came to terms with dying either.
Rocky had saved him, and he had a bit of hope for a month thinking he’d at least get too be by the ocean again. But he had to turn around. After all, he was cursed. He had the soul of a sinner. There was no way he’d get to go home or even glimpse it, but Rocky was worth the pain. Even if he’d die with it one day.
On the way to Erid he decided to go through the last of the storage units he never got around to opening. In one lay a seal pelt, his seal pelt. He’d asked Stratt one day for a favor, to find his lost seal pelt that meant everything to him. He didn't think she’d really find it with so little time, but she did. He sobbed. Even with it now, he’d never be able to go back home or go back to the skin he’s meant to be in. He’d forever be longing for the thing that will never be.

Going off of my own thing and using moon phases so they can go between even more freely (so it's like a once a month kinda thing).
Selkies have a deep longing for the sea when they can't return.
Selkies feel unnatural in human form, though they can grow accustomed (body dysmorphia kinda thing).
After a year, if a selkie finds their pelt they will return to the sea the next chance they get, something they have very little control over. Like an unbearable itch. They can combat it if it's life and death (theirs or someone they care about). They may also not return if they physically can't.
This includes even if they want to stay human willingly.
Selkies are humans in limbo who are redeeming themselves or an angel’s punishment. Both suck.
Selkies can be redeemed after death if they’ve got enough good karma and have a light heart.
If it’s just kinda ok, they come back as another selkie or something equivalent.
If it’s bad, they get reincarnated as something harder and worse or just go too hell.
Anyone who interferes with their punishment/judgement will be cursed (generally humans, the cycle of life is fine tho).
Grace and Colt were raised as cubs in the arctic oceans.
Grace and Colt had gone to study with humans for high school and college (homeschooled before) and their mom kept their pelt during high school so they couldn't bail.
They’d return to the sea during breaks to keep themselves from that need to return spontaneously should they ever find their pelt.
Grace got really into science and Colt got really into getting attention and doing cool tricks.
Colt gave his pelt away to Jody (and then they broke up for awhile) and Grace had his stolen while in college.
Grace asks Stratt to find a seal pelt and is very specific about it. She manages with how much detail he gives, though she doesn't know why it's so important to him.
He watches his home get bombed to help the earth last a bit longer. This haunts him.
No one gets too cursed cuz Grace told his family ahead of time who got everyone out.
Grace talks Jody into returning Colt his pelt. There's not enough time for this petty squabbling, even if Colt can't swim anymore. At the very least, he’d have part of himself back.
Grace knows that even if he had his pelt all this time, he’d be stuck in the same situation.
The Eridians give Grace an ocean but it's not the same.
Grace does find some peace on Erid, but the longing is always there.
He does not believe he deserves redemption, instead seeking punishment in the afterlife. Whatever is governing life and death on Erid does NOT agree with this assessment. Man saved the FUCKING UNIVERSE. Heavy heart be damned, he’s getting a reward.
Can easily be turned into any ship. Might I recommend BloodyMary on the Rocks for maximum angst??? We can hurt EVERYBODY!!
Like Grace can't help being jealous that Simon gets to be in an ocean on a moon even if it's made of blood because his longing is that bad at that point in time.
We can also throw in some seal curse if we want 4 fun.
