Because it would have come out in her first year of highschool, so if she played it, it would be right after the most traumatic moment of her life so far.
And personally, I think the scene of Chihiro's corpse being examined and her being outed then the other characters referring to her in masculine terms for the rest of the game would have made her break down and never touch the game again afterwards.
Because I do think that Subaru would probably relate to Chihiro in a way that makes her deeply uncomfortable.
And like. You know that Subaru would have really liked Kyoko up until this point. She would get so badly fucked up by Chapter 2.
She doesn't deserve this, but her suffering is like crack to me. So.
Outside of her having a thing for the mysterious silver haired- purple eyed Kyoko, she would also have some sort of feeling in relation to Byakuya. She'd probably find Makoto a bit boring, yet slightly relatable also. But like. Chihiro is just like her for real (kinda) so everything would be way more hard hitting.

So.
In this, Subaru ends up becoming a Nozomi-ish character. This is because she uh, got isekaied I guess? Like. Satella fucking dropped her into one of the classroom seats. Which Roswaal is fine with. Because Roswaal is Sirei for this. He'd love the Revive-o-matic. And also because both her and Nozomi are characters who are very scared by the situation and non-violent but making themselves fight anyway.
Emilia is a Takumi equivalent, which is verrrry interesting. Because Takumi is a very passive character who is made to take charge, while Emilia is a very active character who is initially forced into passive roles. Also she has a purple streak in her hair to replace Takky's black streak.
This is fun because Subaru would initially take charge and be R1 Eito-esque before immediately eating shit allowing Emilia to take charge.
Subaru is a healer like Nozomi, but she whips people to heal them. Emilia has a different weapon for each attack, like her Ice Brand Arts, except it's Blood Brand Arts.
And also!
Emilia is the one with Special Re-do! She uses this for the fights and leads the team and causes the loops like Takumi!
Meanwhile, Subaru ends up being kind of like Hiruko, who gets sent back to the start of the loop each time she dies and keeps all of her memories. This is because she gets her Hemoanima from Satella! Which comes with... being isekaied I guess.
Subaru being in a feminine version of the Artificial Class Armour is because this is a post R0 Subaru, at some point in the loops her egg cracked. She would have had a masc version originally.
The way Subaru got isekaied in this AU is that Satella is the Baby/Shion for this. She used her Cryptoglobin to summon Subaru to save her! Subaru is trying so hard to pretend she knows what everyone is talking about when the LRC (Lugunica Residential Complex) comes up.
Rem and Ram are like the Tsukumo twins sorta. Ram would make such a great sniper.
Beako is a bit like Kurara.
The Second Campus is like the Sanctuary, being run by the Ryuzus, who are the Nigou equivalents.
Obviously the Commanders are replaced by The Witch Cult.
Also G'ie Subaru would be sooooo fucked and I want to see it. G'ie-chan is already the best character in the game and G'iebaru would be the cutest ever and also it would fuck up Emilia so bad.

I've drawn quite a lot of these over the past few months and figured I might as well post them all. I find cute pictures of bunnies online and use those as references.
A few of these were difficult choices to make and came down to the very important factor of if I found them funny or not.
Favourite Sin Archbishop is Capella because even though I love Betelgeuse, he's a bummer.
Favourite side-character was very almost Chisha, but alas, the funny factor.
I almost put Subaru as the over-hated, but came to the conclusion that she was more underrated than anything. And also holy fuck there is so much Emilia hate going around. Like. How? What did she do wrong?
Roswaal is the least like me because. What the fuck is wrong with him. Like I know what's wrong with him, but still. (I do like him). It's just, the trampling over the feelings of others in pursuit of your own goals and claiming that your feelings are the only ones that matter and the being okay with hurting others as long as he has a good reason for it. Which I know other characters do, but still. Also I would never dress like that.
Todd sucks so much ass and I genuinely love that for him. Did not expect to like him and his freak bullshit, but he is the comedy relief of Arc7 for me.
Elsa shares a spot with Priscilla tbh.
Least favourite was probably the most difficult. But Pandora is a nothing character. Sure she could be compelling, but so far she does nothing. She isn't even funny, like, even Reid is funny. So she's my least favourite.
This is just headcanon, but I don't think transfem Subaru would change her name to Natsumi.
Natsumi is a persona. But she's still a very genuine avenue for Subaru to explore femininity and the confidence that can be gained from it. And of course it's very easy to see how something like that could lead into realizing she's actually a girl too, but in a similar way that playing an idealized dnd character or drag performance would. Natsumi is Subaru's ideal self (canon description!) and that's still true either way.
But I think Subaru is still Subaru. Like, I think she'd go by the same name. It's gender-neutral (the canon Subaru genderbend uses the same name) for starters, but beyond that the name holds deep significance. Not just from a meta characterization standpoint, but because "Subaru" is the name of a star cluster, and that's the whole reason Subaru is into stars to begin with. I think that all versions of Subaru, cis or trans or genderbent or canon, like their name and would not choose to change it.
Additionally "Natsumi Schwartz" is the full name, and I highly doubt she'd ever change her family name especially. There is so much emphasis on Subaru's family and the fact that they can no longer be together. Carrying around the Natsuki surname matters. And I kinda don't think she'd go by "Natsumi Natsuki"
Idk I think Subaru's name just holds too much significance, both narratively and from a personal standpoint. That's why I can't really see any version of Subaru willingly and happily changing it.
Again, this is all headcanon so I don't think it's wrong to imagine a version where she changes her name to Natsumi or anything. It's just preference for me. But I also have a lot of different headcanons for Subaru anyway
Rezero au where return by death also causes amnesia so it's just arc 1 loop 1 for like a million times until there's enough witch's miasma that it completely changes
So, we know that miasma has a negative effect on the people who are nearby. This includes but is not limited to: making someone lethargic, making people and animals more anxious, and heightening people's negative emotions- potentially to the point of murder.
And if of course the source of all that miasma is Subaru, over the loops, people will be subtly being more irritable, then angry, then murderous.
It would also probably be focused on her as well, because if something is making you feel bad, you want to get rid of that thing. And to get rid of a person you, well, kill them.
So this would cause the deaths to keep happening faster, and therefore cause the amount of miasma to grow exponentially.
Then it comes into question whether this would also affect Subaru. I say... no.
If it was an external source of miasma, such as whatever was causing it inside the tunnels under the Pleiades Watchtower, then absolutely. But since it is an internal source of miasma, then it would probably just emanate from her instead. Though you could make a case for her feeling the effect very lightly through the nearby mana getting corrupted.
So I guess the loop would keep going / keep getting worse until someone, AKA Reinhard, suddenly going 'Something is wrong,' before immediately zeroing in on Subaru's location and getting her away from populated areas so he's able to ask her what's going on.
Subaru would of course know fuckall.
Based on how the miasma scent stays strong over the next few days in the mansion loops, I'd say that with all that dying, it would take at least a week for it to start to fade. Even then it would probably remain for maybe a month? Until it gets to a manageable level that is~
So now we have Reinhard having to keep a handle on this random kid who's got so much miasma on her that everyone in the capital went crazy until he got her out of there.
There probably aren't many places that he could keep her. Not without causing trouble for somebody.
They'd probably have to camp out in a field or in the middle of the woods or something until things calm down. There are disadvantages to both though. Field doesn't have protection from the elements; forest is full of animals that WILL kill Subaru.
Reinhard would probably need to spontaneously develop the DP of Camping Real Good for this. Maybe even the DP of Building a House From Scratch.
They wouldn't even know at first if the miasma would fade over time.
Danger would be lurking around every corner, of course. Birds, insects, fish, mammals, mabeasts, and potentially even Archbishops would all be drawn to the source of the miasma!
Ohhhhhhhh, let us not forget that Reinhard is so strong because he's constantly draining the mana from the air around himself. And what is miasma? Corrupted mana of course! So, maybe we'd even see some interesting changes in him over time~
It would be so juicy.
And also ReinSuba.
It would be so ReinSuba.
Subaru would rely upon this really cool and nice and attractive ikeman type guy who's keeping her safe from everyone who's trying to kill her because for some reason she emits corrupted mana, and also Reinhard would be with someone who doesn't know what a Sword Saint is and as a result treats him like just a normal guy who's also really strong for some reason.
OH AND ALSO ALSO!
This means that Reinhard wouldn't meet Felt, and who knows how things at the Loot House would have gone down! So many things to think about! Squee!
That scene was funny as fuck they didn't need to do this to me. Like I can't believe they would do this.

With Black Butler I fully understand why they cut characters saying the word 'f*g'. Because as funny as that is, it is still a slur, even if it isn't being used in that context.
But this is just a character who you are meant to hate being homophobic.

Ok so Priscilla can kiss a woman but Julius being jokingly called Subaru's boyfriend is a step too far? Is it because the anime-only-redditors would get mad at the joke? Is that it?

Headcanon. Subaru learnt how to tie a cherry stem into a knot before being isekaied after seeing a girl do it in an anime once and the first time she has charries (RZ cherries) she does it on autopilot and then takes it out of her mouth and puts it on the table and the entire room starts staring like. How did you do that?
For the bunny-baru, it's really funny to think of what Ferris is thinking across all this. Because with his fucked up childhood as a demihuman, and now as a healer he has to deal with a fucked up baby demihuman theres gonna be sooo much feelinngs with that
OOOOO FERRIS! I love himmmmmmmmm! He is holding the babyyyyyyy~ And Subaru is so small and cute and scar-covered and uwaaaaaaaa! You have perfectly conveyed the amount of internal suffering that Ferris is going through trying to process this without having a full-on breakdown.
Oh and the Juli bowing to Subaru in apology because ohshitibeatupababy and Subaru sitting very uncomfortably in Ferrisâs arms so good.

Anyway. What does Ferris think? Wellllll, itâs mostly internal screaming to start off with. But when he finally gets a moment (Subaru finally fell asleep after a solid twenty hours) he decides that he is adopting the baby. Thatâs his baby now. And Cruschâs. Congrats Wil-ji, you have a granddaughter now. Clearly the Emilia Camp isnât raising Subaru right if any of that happened.
The problem is of course⌠Ferris does not know how to handle kids, not that Subaru is a kid.
But honestly? Teaching Subaru how to person by Lugunican standards from the ground up is probably the best way to get her semi-normal. Which Roswaal was probably trying to avoid. Keeping someone ignorant from the reality of their situation is the best way to control them, as youâre likely the one manipulating their environment. He is so bad at parenting, lol. âŚFerris is going to kill Roswaal.
No. I mean it. Ferris is going to kill Roswaal in a way he can not come back from. I have decided this.
Because. It isnât exactly a secret that Roswaalâs family were active in the Demihuman War fifty years ago, on the side of the humans. Sure the current Roswaal doesnt hate demihumans, but⌠we all know what people think of him when it comes to demihumans.
âŚWilhelm also participated in the war, so Ferris also has complicated feelings towards him. But at the very least Wilhelm doesnât have a reputation for collecting demihumans down on their luck to hire them to his estate and putting them in revealing maid uniforms. There is no way that Ferris doesnât have very specific thoughts about putting a baby in that environment.
Emiliaâs behaviour does make more sense in this context, and so does Subaruâs. Treat the baby like baby, and the baby has developed an intense attachment to the first nice older woman it meets. Not that this is correct.
And when Ferris witnesses how Rem interacts with Subaru? Ferris almost has a heart attack. That is not how you treat a baby, not a human baby, not a demihuman baby, not a rabbit in general.
He now has a baby with him at all time because he is not letting Subaru out of his sight, the only other people allowed to look after Subaru are Crusch and Wilhelm, and Rem is not allowed to be in the same room as Subaru. Rem is not allowed around Subaru because outside of her horrendous behaviour, Subaru is so fucking scared of her.
Did you know rabbits hearts can explode if they get too stressed? Because Ferris absolutely does.
Found every book he could on babies, rabbits, and rabbit demihumans. Reads every last one of them. Learns everything he can. And decides that the traumatised baby that was already chronically anxious from birth can never go back.
Ferrisâs attempts at parenting start off with building Subaru a comfortable floor-level bed for Subaru in his(Ferrisâs) room, so they wonât get separated. Then building a baby-gate around it. Rabbit gate. I canât remember what theyâre called. Then he gets the staff to baby-proof the estate.
Then he tries to get Rem to leave. (She doesnât).
Once Subaru is back to human form is when the fun starts. Because Subaru, while grateful to the cute catgirl for looking after her, she doesnât need a new parent. Ferris then corrects the catgirl statement, before panicking about the ânewâ parent.
Cue Subaru being forced to actually process the fact that sheâll never see her parents again and fails at suppressing her shift and ends up popping back into bunny for another few days because animal brain is simpler than human.
So while Ferris and everyone else is left to wonder who left an entire baby alone and why, assuming the worst, they now also have to deal with a Subaru who is trying really hard force everything down. Which is so unhealthy and is being actively discouraged by everyone.
Ferris is not good at parenting. He is doing the opposite of what his parents did, mixed with how the Karstens treated him. Which sounds good on paper, but itâs Ferris.
At the very least. Ferris is so absolutely going to put Subaru in all the cute baby outfits possible. Which is somewhat embarrassing, but also it was only the 1900s that popularised gender specific baby clothes. Meaning that Subaru gets to wear cute dresses, though she does insist on them not actually being baby clothes. So she matches with Ferris and itâs really cute.

Emilia notices while talking to Julius, that Subaru has wandered off somewhere. Like she feared.
She gets Julius to help her in looking for Subaru, but doesn't find her.
So she gets Roswaal and Rem to help, but doesn't find her.
She looks all night, but doesn't find her.
And after she very unwillingly goes to the Royal Selection instead of continuing to search for her missing friend, Emilia begs the other Camps to help her.
The Felt Camp immediately agrees, because they like Subaru and want to help. The Crusch Camp agrees, because Ferris doesn't like that one of his patients has gone missing, but still informs the Emilia Camp that they are busy and might not be able to do much. The Anastasia Camp is going to help a little bit in exchange for a favour... apart from Julius, who feels bad that Subaru went missing while he was talking to Emilia and is going to put his all into it.
The Priscilla Camp is not helping. Al says he'll keep a look out and send them a letter if he sees anything, which is unlikely to happen. The thing is, Priscilla is the best lead they could have, as Subaru was kidnapped while with her; she let it happen on Todd's promise that entertaining things would spring from it. So far that promise is ringing true.
This is of course when things go from fucked to worse.
Two days later they find a severed foot that through scent is identified as Subaru's. (On the opposite side of the city to where Todd & co were staying, of course). (Subaru's foot was cut off on the day they kidnapped her, they left they day after, so it has been three days since Subaru was kidnapped).
They scour the city for where the foot might have come from, and manage to find the inn Team Todd was staying at within the day. (Thank you to strong smelling blood).
However Team Todd checked in using fake names, and are using new fake names per town. It doesn't help that they used disguises while in the Capital.
At the very least they would know that the group that kidnapped Subaru consists of two adult men, and one adult woman in a wheelchair.
Black hair is very distinctive in the Re:Zero world, not that this fact helps them with Subaru being made to wear a brown wig. And since Subaru is also going by Natsumi Schwartz, they won't be able to go with 'boy missing foot', not that they know this yet~
So. The best thing to look for is a woman in a wheelchair. (Too bad she's staying in the Todd Squad's carriage that they own most of the time).
After about a month, the name Natsumi Schwartz floats around and into the ears of the Subaru Savers as a young woman missing a foot travelling with two men and another woman in a wheelchair. It isn't that difficult to put together that Natsumi sounds like Natsuki.
The thing is... in the trail they've been mapping out in trying to find Subaru, it is becoming increasingly obvious that she is being taken in the direction of Kararagi. And with how long it takes to get there from the Capital... She is definitely either somewhere near the border, or in a different country.
This is where the problems start.
The Crusch Camp stopped helping after things left the Capital. They have the Whale to worry about. (Don't worry, no one gets eaten in this).
Because of the Reinhard Clause, the Felt Camp can't help with anything to do with Kararagi. Sure, Rom probably knows a few people who could help with the search, but that's about it. They also have a lot of their own problems to worry about regardless.
The Anastasia Camp is the best equipped to help them in this situation. And with the whole 'being kidnapped to Kararagi' thing, Anastasia is more inclined to help than before. Not only because she's from Kararagi, but because if someone is going to this extent to obtain Subaru, there's got to be something about her that makes it necessary.
Emilia is very heavily backed by Roswaal on finding Subaru as soon as possible, he is panicking so hard about Subaru being taken and not being able to get away. What with him not knowing about the activation conditions of Subaru's abilities. This also puts a hold on his scheming too. (Also they find and hire Otto at some point during this, I need him).
A few more months pass.
Subaru has been missing for about half a year now, Todd covered his tracks impeccably well for someone with such a distinctive group.
Anastasia actually got Halibel to help out with the effort as he's the closest thing to Reinhard in Kararagi. (I like Halibel).
He shows up and spies on the house a bit, seeing how the place runs, sending updates on the situation to the combined forces of the Emi-Ana Camps. Before actually going to talk to Subaru and see if he can get her out of there safely.
He knocks on the door to the house and explains the situation to Subaru when she opens it.
As much as Subaru would like to leave (not as much as is healthy), she can't leave Katya alone, what if something happens?! Besides, even if Halibel is actually helping to save Subaru, how is she supposed to know if she's never heard of him before?
So Halibel is like 'Fair enough' and heads off to tell people that this is definitely Subaru, who might need some convincing to leave.
So a few days pass, and Todd and Jamal come home one day to see The combined forces of the Emilia Camp, Julius Juukulius, and also Halibel the Admirer for some fucking reason, standing outside their door.
Todd knows that no matter how hard he and Jamal try, they would not win this fight.
So instead they start calming down Katya who is having a panic attack about how she knew this was a bad idea and she never should have gone along with Todd's stupid plan and how dare Jamal talk her into this.
Emilia and Rem are fully prepared to kill Todd, when Subaru tells everyone that they can't.
Because Subaru is of the opinion that even though she was kidnapped, had her foot cut off, carried around like luggage sometimes even in a bag, drugged twice, had the shit kicked out of her a few times, had a leash put on her once, was flirted with, was manipulated in every conversation, taken to a completely different country, AND was forced to work for them- she doesn't want anything bad to happen to her kidnappers, because in her opinion, they were pretty nice to her all things considered!
And Todd, who did most of that shit, is SO CONFUSED!
Sure, he did intend on making Subaru care about him and Katya (and by extension Jamal) to the point where Subaru would want them alive, he didn't think it would actually work.
Who on earth would actually care about the people who chopped off their foot? Subaru. Subaru would.
Because as Todd knows, Subaru is the same person who still loved Rem and Ram after being chased down in the woods, had her foot chopped off, and was tortured for 3-6 hours (books make it unclear).
So he's trying so hard to keep his composure and everything under control knowing his plan succeeded, even if Subaru was being rescued.
He even helps to pack up Subaru's things.
A few months later, having used the excuse of Stargazer bullshit, Todd and Jamal have their jobs back, having moved Katya to new house as far away from the capital as possible.
Todd is getting antsy with how he's in the same place as before. He's going to wait until he has an opening, to grab Jamal and run off to join the Rebellion. Because they have an all but guaranteed survival if they do. Even if it will suck.
When all of a sudden, Jamal comes back with grave news.
They were going out to grab water, and found a few people washed up on shore.
