call me Pom, Pom Pom, or Pommy, any of those are fine!
I am a big fan of animals, I've always adored them, especially rats, once I got some, I realized I didn't do enough research to properly care for them. Eventually I got the hang of it and I'd just like to help out some people who are struggling with rat care!
Note, I am not a professional, I will not give medical advice other than "go to the vet", I have dyscalculia and cannot measure sizes, so don't ask questions relating to that.
Filter out "pet injury", "pet death", and similar tags if you do not wish to see mentions of those topics.
I also repost cute rat pictures!!
QNA below cut
Q: what size cage should I get?
A: I can't measure sizes, but at least big enough for you, or a large dog, to sit inside it, even if cramped. None of those tiny cages at pet stores.
Q: What bedding should I avoid?
A: bedding IS optional as long as you provide a digging box, my rats don't care for bedding. Keep away from scented bedding, and wood bedding!!
Q: Are rats cheap?
A: no! No pets are cheap! The toys themselves are cheap, but the cage, vet visits, and general care will NOT be cheap at all.
Q: what should I feed my rats?
A: I feed mine Oxbow rat pellets, with occasional strawberries and unseasoned chicken as a treat!
Q: How do I get new rats to like me?
A: be patient! When you bring them home, set their box inside of the cage along with plenty of hiding spots to make then feel safe. Slowly every day, give them a small treat, so they associate you with positive things! Eventually they'll begin to trust you! Do NOT force them out of their hiding spots.
Q: how many rats should I get?
A: at LEAST two, that is the minimum. Though I recommend three or four.
