Hiii! I'm Rosalind (she/they), a trainer and pokemon riding instructor from Unova! I used to have one of these Rotomblr blogs when i was like 13, deleted it, and decided that I might as well come back considering the state of the world and internet.
I love watching all sorts of pokemon sporting events especially those that involve riding pokemon, and am pretty partial to racing events! I do actually compete on occasion in some western rapidash riding events (smaller local amateur stuff) and used to do some ponyta racing stuff when I was younger, but I'm mostly a pleasure rider/ride for my job. I am completely normal about rapidash and can be trusted to infodump about them. Come closer.
I'm very proud of my two rapidash. Vulcan is an Unovan quarter horse, and Cookie is an Unovan paint horse. Mac, my herdier, is is a mix between a couple different breeds and I love him very much, I am just a horsegirl at heart and will never stop being one </3

wehhhhhh horsie. blanket warning for unreality in the style of posting as if pokemon are real. this is a pkmn irl blog.
All Mails and Malices are off (IE: Pelipper mail, Musharna mail, and variants of the two), Magic anons are off, Everything is off.
this blog does intend to add a bit of realism to pokemon. mamillian pokemon for the most part dont lay eggs (because the concept of dog eggs is scary to me), theres a variety of breeds of various pokemon (especially those based off domesticated animals), lots of colour variation in pokemon (especially those based off domesticated animals), and more. if our characters get into an argument about how pokemon work, typically rosalind will be right on how things work, at least within her universe, unless it's a pokemon she'd reasonably not be very familiar of, and in those cases i'll usually make it clear that she's incorrect in the tags or something. if you are uncomfortable with stuff like this, please do not get into arguments with rosalind, or make it clear out of character you are getting uncomfortable in the middle of an interaction, because otherwise i, the mun, will not figure it out.
both mun and muse are full adults, expect possible suggestive humour as well as potential mentions of alcohol or drugs. things will be tagged to the best of my ability and this isn't gonna be an overtly nsfw blog, but it likely will happen at some point or another so its good to be warned.
follows come from @cassi-pokeblogging-hub and my main non pkmn irl blog is @coldsnapz

I know they’re able to control the temperature of their flame, but wouldn’t it still be able to catch things on fire? Or does it not burn strong enough when they’re relaxed?
if theyre relaxed and dont see their bedding as a threat then yeah theres v little fire risk. shit happens, which is why we keep fire extinguishers and extra bedding handy, but overall its fine. unfortunately theres not a lot of solutions that dont either still have some risk of fire kr sacrifice comfort
I’ve always wondered, how do you keep Kantonian Rapidash? Like how do you put them out in the pasture without them setting the entire field on fire? What do you put in their stables for bedding? I know the barns are typically made out of stone or brick or concrete, but they can’t just lay on a hard floor. But if you put bedding down it will surely catch on fire.
i mean they dont set their bedding on fire the same way that areas with wild or feral populations aren't constantly burning. when they're calm, rapidash can control their flames to not burn things.
im pretty sure only galar has a set gym order but thats more cause of their weird way of doing gyms and everything.
in most places, or at the very least unova, you just kinda do gyms in whatever order of towns is closest or you have the chance to visit. most leaders adjust teams for how many badges you have so beginner trainers aren't experiencing coughing baby vs hydrogen bomb fights immediately
i guess making it a bigger televised sport involved making stricter regulations, which tracks with how most sports work nowadays. i mean they even have a major and a minor league while most regions just have however many official gyms. theres also something to be said about how making gym battles massive televised events with a dedicated season where most of the participants have already proven themselves wjth a couple small tourney wins and what not allowa the league to make far more money than other leagues where you show up for a weekend, wait yourturn, then go
I caught Molly has a Mudbray during my island challenge. I was setting up camp for the night when she toddled over, no fear at all. I gave her a berry and, well, the rest is history. She wouldn’t leave my side after that, so I caught her.
She was young and fairly energetic when we first met. Shes mellowed out since she’s evolved. Thats not to say she doesn’t have her moments, haha.
She’s been one of the best partners a trainer could ask for. I know I can always rely on Molly when the going gets tough. The same goes for all of my pokemon.

the old legend is that there was this big meteor that crashed nearby and contained a terrifying monster that would attack and eat people. eventually they built the wall around the town to keep the monster out, and a bunch of rules and traditions started with the idea of protecting people from being taken and eaten by the monster, like not being allowed to go out at night. its not technically against the law to go out at night anymore, and most people here claim not to believe the old legends, but also we're not going to go outside at night unless we really have to just incase. you never know.
some people think its creepy how lacunosa has literally no night life and how pretty much everyone stays in the second it starts to get dark but ehhhh you get used to it. plus its fun to take place in old traditions even if theyre a little silly

if you're in undella you gotta go through the tube and spend some time in humilau. the marine tube. mny tube.
also as a lacunosa resident i do have to recommend all the local tourist stuff we have about the old monster legends. theres a lot of tours and themed museums about the towns history and traditions. also a quite a few themed restaurants. if you do visit lacunosa you can also visit village bridge nearby. unova loves its bridges and village bridge is the best bridge because i said so. also its just got a nice cozy vibe there.

i love teaching the kids who come here during the summer for riding camp but man is it always something to deal with them constantly asking if they can do jumps or cool tricks on the rapidash.
bethany you just learned how to sit on a pokemon for the first time this week. you are not ready for show jumping. the answer was no yesterday and it will still be no for the rest of the summer
Don’t know if they’re as common in Unova than they are in Alola or elsewhere, but have you worked with any draft breeds like some of the Mudstale varieties? If so, what’re they like? Other than big, of course.
while most are not native to unova, plenty of equine pokemon and pokemon that serve similar roles are all over the place here, mostly due to zebstrika just not having a good temperment for things like riding or being used as a work horse, so there are plenty of mudsdale here!! i haven't worked with them much, there's not really any at the stable i work with (most of the horsemon at my stable are for riding, rather than work or driving, so they're pretty much all rapidash) but i have gotten the chance to interact with a few. generally they're gentle giants if trained well, but they can be stubborn, and with them being even bigger than rapidash with all that heavy mud on their hooves, they can definitely be dangerous if you freak them out or get on their bad side. i've also seen a couple mudsdale owned by trainers travelling to unova for battling competitions, but not really interacted with them, and I'd imagine a pokemon trained primarily for battling has a completely different temperment than one trained for work.
theres a couple parades that come through village bridge every year, and usually there's at least a couple carriages being drawn by some mudsdales.
No one is asking about your pup, so I will. What’s the story with your Herdier? How did you get the good boy?
mac!!! the goodest boy!! he's wild caught. i caught him when i was 16. a little late for a first pokemon by unovan standards (most kids have one by 10 or 11, and 14 is a pretty regular age you start seeing kids picking up badges) but i wasnt super into battling like my peers were and for most of the time i was just happy taking care of the horsemons at the stable lol. i caught him as a lillipup because a girl i was into in highschool mentioned not wanting to date anyone who couldn't battle and didn't have any gym badges.... so i caught a lillipup and immediatly took a trip to opelucid to try and get a badge there. it didnt work out, and i figured out catching a pokemon is a REALLY stupid thing to do for a crush. don't do what i did, especially in HIGHSCHOOL!. i literally have not seen that girl in like almost 10 years we never even ended up dating..... but hey it worked out. mac's been with me for years and we ended up earning a few badges together along with vulcan and later cookie because we WANTED TO (we eventually got that badge in opelucid) and not to impress a someone.

Where did you get your Rapidash from? A breeder? An auction? Did you get them as Rapidash or as Ponyta?
i got vulcan as a rapidash as a gift from my parents when i graduated highschool. id already been working with and riding members of the line since i was a kid and even raced ponyta, but i hadn't actually owned (as in registered under my trainer id) any of the rapidash i was riding until that point. i can't remember all the details of his purchase rn, id have to dig for stuff and ask my mom but i do know he was around 7ish years old and was already trained for the most part.
cookie on the other hand i got as a ponyta from a friend who is a breeder. id been looking into potentially picking up a second rapidash at some point and has been saving for it and they offered to let me buy one of their foals. cookie ended up capturing my heart immediately and i patiently waited until she was an appropriate age to be sold. i trained her almost entirely myself and im very proud of her. she's like my baby.
How do you safely ride a Rapidash without getting burned? Also, how do you prevent the saddle from being destroyed?
generally rapidash and ponyta's flames aren't actually that hot unless they're being used for self defense. if you have a close bond, they trust you, and they aren't particularly spooked in that moment, their flames don't burn. its more a comfortable warmth, like being under a big blanket. it can get a little uncomfortable after a while and can actually cause some heat damage over time if you aren't careful and ride for too long, but a calm, well trained rapidash or ponyta that trusts you won't light you ablaze. usually.
this does not mean they never do actually burn riders. this can actually be quite common if one isn't trained properly, uses a move while being ridden, or gets spooked. most riding gear is at least fire resistant, or even fireproof if possible. its also all pretty much natural fibers if it's not fire proof so that it doesnt melt onto your skin if it catches fire.
a lot of it is similar to anything used to train a lot of other fire types.
