Introducing âRed Towel Roundupâ
I will jump right into it.
I have been developing another blog/website called âRed Towel Roundup.â The site was an idea that I had been thinking about for quite some time. I felt like WKU needed a âone-stop-shopâ for fans to visit that would be, both, informative and entertaining. The goal is to promote WKU sports and ignite/unite the fan-base.
Message from Red Towel Roundup:
In an effort to reach out to the WKU community ânear and far â I have created this website. I hope lifelong and new WKU fans, alike, find this site fun and full of interesting insights.
Red Towel Roundup aims to be your âone-stop-shopâ of all things WKU sports. Do you want to know which Hilltoppers have gone pro? Visit the âPro Toppersâ page for an updated list of current Hilltoppers that are playing professionally along with a link to their bio. Do you want to have a discussion or see what fans are saying? Visit the âForumâ page. Do you want to see live tweets about WKU? There is a Twitter gadget on the right-hand side of the site that follows #WKU. In addition, you will be able to vote in polls, read blogs, watch podcasts, view photos, participate in âFan of the Monthâ contests, and so on.
Red Towel Roundup is for and by WKU fans. If you have any questions, suggestions, or would like to contribute to Red Towel Roundup, please contact [email protected].
Go Tops!
The website is a work in progress. Although I intend on posting to Rants From a WKU Fan from time-to-time, I felt like Red Towel Roundup was more interactive and provides more resources that a WKU fan might need. As the welcome message indicated, the website is for and by WKU fans. What I like most about the website and using Blogger is that you do not have to be a member to participate or access items within the site.
Take a look around and, again, feel free to contact [email protected]
Also, follow @redtowelroundup on Twitter!

4 Reasons to Keep Calm & Support WKU Basketball
With college football officially over for the season and the NFLâs seasons coming to a close, I am ready. I am ready to talk about WKU Menâs Basketball. (I will talk about womenâs shortly after).
If you regularly read my blog, you know I only speak of WKU Football with respect, support, and appreciation; I will continue to do the same for every WKU team. The only negative posts I will make will be addressed to the Jill Berryâs of the world (if you do not know what I am talking about, check out my article:  âAn Open Letter to Jill Berry (Author of âAn Open Letter to WKUâ).â I am, and always will be, an advocate for all things WKU.
With speculation and rumors swirling around WKU Basketball, I would like to offer a positive and encouraging outlook. This is a message for fans and the team, alike.
I give you: Â 4 Reasons to Keep Calm & Support WKU Basketball
1. Ben Lawson
Aka Big Ben is #17 in the nation and #3 in the conference in blocks per game. Ben has more than proven that he is a key asset to the team. Since 2013, he has grown 1 inch (7â˛1âł now) and gained 20 lbs. (230 lbs). His game has improved tremendously and it shows in his national statistic. I canât imagine the team without the big man swatting away shots. He has 49 blocks on the season, and that number will continue to increase.
2. Justin JohnsonÂ
The sophomore is #31 in the nation and #2 in the conference in field goal %, #8 in the conference in points per game, and #6 in the conference in rebounds per game. As the dominant power forward, George Fant, played his senior year (2014-2015), I heard multiple fans nervously wonder if anyone could fill his shoes. Justin Johnson, that is who. Being only a sophomore, you know he will be a force to be reckoned with during his senior season.
3. This is not football
I do not mean to state the obvious, but basketball is not football. Mind = blown. I know. That transition from football to basketball messes with our heads. We go from a 12 game regular season to a 31 game regular season. A 5-7 football season is undesirable; you have a 42% winning percentage and unless there are not enough bowl eligible teams, you do not have the opportunity to make a bowl appearance. Your season is done. A 5-7 start in a basketball season is NOT the end of the world; there are 19 more games to turn it around in addition to a conference tournament.Â
4. We will be okay
Since the 2011-2012 season, at this point in the season, WKU is averaging 10.4 - 9 or 54%. We are currently 10-10 (50%). Am I saying that this is a good season? No. But l will let the season play out. There are, still, 13 more games to be played and a conference tournament. In 2011-2012, Ray Harper inherited a team that was 5-11, won the Sun Belt Conference Championship, and beat Mississippi Valley State in the First Four of the NCAA Basketball Tournament.Â
Call me crazy. Call me unrealistic. However, I will not cast judgment until I see the final product. A lot can happen in 13 games. I will continue to show unwavering support for the team and coaches.
All [WKU] publicity is good publicity
I will just jump right into itâŚ
Going into my previous post (â4 reasons why the Governorâs Cup should be played between WKU and Louisvilleâ), I knew I would receive some hate. When you make a provocative statement, people will react. Quite honestly, I am surprised I did not receive more disparaging comments than I did. I got a good chuckle out of being called various expletives and a â19 year old sophomore boyâ (or something like that).
âAll publicity is good publicityâ
My intention with the blog has been, and always will be, to bring attention to and start a dialogue about WKU athletics. What I write is very opinionated. There is no way that every single person will agree with my thoughts and ideas. If your intention was to offend me, put down WKU, or discredit the blog, it is not working. Your comments are a welcome contribution to a healthy debate about WKU athletics. Whether someone calls an article âawesomeâ or âabsurd,â WKU is still receiving attention. When someone retweets an article and calls it âdumbâ or calls it âignorantâ guess what?...WKU still receives attention. A retweet is a retweet, a share is a share, and a comment is a comment. This is not about me. This is about opening up a dialogue about WKU athletics and bringing about the state and national attention they deserve. Â
Think of the blog like Taylor Swift. People either love or hate T-Swizzle. She may tweet something where one person says âTaylor is my faveâ and the next person says âUgh, stop singing Taylor.â Either way, Taylor receives exposure. Same concept with my blog on a much smaller scale. You may either agree with what I say or wish I would stop writing. When you take it to social media, WKU gets more and more exposure.
4 reasons why the Governorâs Cup should be played between WKU and Louisville
I realize this article will not settle well with A LOT of people. Just hear me outâŚ
Letâs start with a little background information for those who are not familiar with the game. The annual Governorâs Cup is a trophy awarded to the victor of the game between UK and Louisville. The game has created a heated rivalry as both teams are tied with 14 wins each, Louisville winning the last 5 years.
I am here to propose a WKU vs. Louisville Governorâs Cup matchup.
1. Petrino vs. Brohm
This would be an epic matchup between master and padawan (Petrino being master and padawan being Brohm). However, letâs be honest, Brohm has become the Master in just 2 short years.
There is no denying that there is a history between Petrino and Brohm. There is also a verrrrry brief history between Petrino and WKU. Oh, and Brohm played at Louisville. Maybe it would be better to put this in a timeline:
Brohm was QB at Louisville.
Petrino hired as HC of Louisville in 2003
Brohm served as Louisvilleâs QB coach under Petrino (2003-2006).
Petrino leaves Louisville, Brohm stays from 2007-2008 as AHC, OC, and PGC.
Petrino hired as WKUâs head coach December 2012. He coached the 2013 season.
Brohm served as Petrinoâs AHC, OC, and QB coach in 2013.
Brohm hired as WKUâs head coach after Petrino departed forâŚyou guessed itâŚLouisville.
Both coaches are successful and have wildly entertaining teams. A matchup would definitely mean a predominantly offensive game. Remember how media ate up the WKU vs. USF bowl game because of the Taggart connection? Think about the media attention that would come from a WKU vs. Louisville matchup! A Petrino vs. Stoops matchup is no where near as enticing as a Petrino vs. Brohm.
2. WKU > UK
To all of my UK friends out there, I know this point will instigate an endless argument. Let me clarify before things get out of hand. I am simply saying that for the past 3 or so years, WKU has been the better football program. Prior to the 2012 season, UK was the better team. These are just facts.
As it stands, WKU does not have an in-state, annual rivalry game. However, they have more than earned it. These are just the cold-hard stats and facts:
I will let you interpret the chart on your own. Although UK leads in the UK/WKU matchup (2008, 2010, 2011), to judge the better team based on one out of twelve games a year would be ridiculous. That would be like Texas saying they should have been in the playoffs because they beat Oklahoma this year. That argument is absurd. Records, winning percentage, and bowls matter.
But just for kicks and giggles, let me rub a little salt in the wound:
3. Conference-Schmonference
Yes, I am aware that UK is in a Power 5 conference (SEC), while WKU is in a Group of Five aka ânon-Power 5âł conference (C-USA). The conference affiliation argument is like your 25 year old friend bragging about receiving an award in elementary school: Â no one cares.
I am going to rip this band-aid off and let those who disagree come at me like a hound after a fox.Â
The Wildcats are complacent losers when it comes to football. There, I said it. Over the past 5 years, UK has maintained a 34% winning percentage while depending on conference affiliation for relevance. Câmon, how many times have you heard a subpar team use the conference-card? I hear it all of the time.Â
Does conference matter in the Governorâs Cup? No. Prior to their move into the Big East, then AAC, then ACC, Louisville was in C-USA from 1995-2005; Louisville began Big East play in the Fall of 2005. Â UK has been with the SEC since 1932. During Louisvilleâs tenure with C-USA, Louisville won the Governorâs Cup 7 games, while UK won 3.Â
4. Traditions can be broken & that is okay
UK and Louisville first played each other in 1912; they played 6 games between 1912 - 1924. The rivalry resumed in 1994. This means that for 76 total seasons, since 1912, UK and Louisville did not play each other. The modern Governorâs Cup has been played every year since 1994.
I have searched extensively as to why the rivalry is dubbed âThe Governorâs Cup.â I could not find a clear-cut explanation:  no official website, just a vague Wikipedia page. Much like a legend, each person probably has their own theory. All theories aside, the name of the trophy implies an association with Kentuckyâs governor. Correct me if I am wrong, but the governor is the head of state:  not just Louisville and Lexington. Now, now, I know that both cities are the 2 largest in the state. But who comes in at #3? Bowling Green. Which university is located in Bowling Green? WKU.Â
I do not have all of the answers. I know a lot of planning and work goes into scheduling games. However, I do believe the Governorâs Cup should be a representation of the two best programs in Kentucky. Since 1994 (modern Governorâs Cup):
UK has 7 winning seasons and 15 losing seasons. Their record is 102-159 (39%). They have 0 conference championships, 0 post-season AP Top 25â˛s, and 7 bowl appearances with a 3-4 (42%) record.
Louisville has 18 winning seasons and 4 losing seasons. Their record is 170-100 (62%). They have 3 conference championships, 2 co-conference  championships, 7 post-season AP Top 25â˛s, and 15 bowl appearances with a 7-8 (46%) record.Â
It is a little more difficult to compare WKU, however:
In its FBS era, WKU has 5 winning seasons and 3 losing seasons. Their record is 46-54 (46%). They have 1 conference championship, 1 post-season AP Top 25, and 3 bowl appearances with a  2-1 record (66%).
Including pre-FBS era (letâs start at 1994), WKU has 17 winning seasons and 5 losing seasons. Their record would be 151-114 (57%). In addition to the FBS era stats, WKU was the Ohio Valley Conference champion. In 2002, WKU won the Division I-AA National Championship.
It is time for change. A WKU vs. Louisville Governorâs Cup would not only highlight another city in the great state of Kentucky, but would recognize a program that has done the unthinkable in just 8 seasons.

An Open Letter to Jill Berry (Author of âAn Open Letter to WKUâ)
A couple of people have recently asked if I was going to write a ârantâ in response to a Southern Miss fanâs letter published in The Odyssey. It is with thoughtful consideration that I would like to respond to Jill Berry, author of âAn Open Letter to WKU.â Many of you, both Southern Miss and WKU fans, have read this passionate Southern Miss fanâs letter. If there is one person I can relate to, it is a passionate fan: Â the one who can recite stats, who will fight for the team, who will travel near and far, and who loves the team until the bitter end. In that respect, Ms. Berry, you are a true fan, and I can respect that. I, however, cannot respect your closing remark:
âSo in conclusion, screw you WKU. Congratulations on your championship and good luck at your bowl game in Miami.â
Vulgar insults will never be found in one of my ârants.â I truly believe I can write an article in a humorous or factual manner without using vulgarity to make a point. There are a few things within your letter that I would like to address:
1. You are an Alpha Delta Pi
Jill, as you are aware, whatever you write and whatever you share is displayed for the world to see. After I read your letter, I saw your picture and bio:
I did a little research. The creed of ADPi, and two of the four-points of the diamond state:  âI believe that I must strive to become a well-balanced person by following the dictates of the four points symbolized by our diamond-shaped badge: first, strengthening my own character and personality; second, watching my attitudes toward my fellow-beingsâŚâ Now, I know no one is perfect, but I am curious as to how your letter and your âscrew youâ proclamation fits within your sororityâs values and beliefs. âI believe that the principles established by our founders in 1851 are enduring attributes, exemplifying the highest ideals of Christian womanhood.âÂ
I am not attacking your sorority, and I am not attacking you. I am simply saying that there are more mature means to express frustration while representing a respected sisterhood and institution.
2. â13 of our players got escorted off their field with injuries. Only one of their players did.â
Thatâs part of the game. This is not a game of âan eye for an eye.â Just because 13 of Southern Miss guys were âinjuredâ does not mean an equally proportionate number of players should be injured from WKU. Blame it on dirty plays all you want, but is that going to change anything? If you have issue with the supposed âdirty playsâ (that I am sure you imagine cost Southern Miss the game), then why donât you spend your time and efforts writing a letter to the NCAA? Describe the play, describe the action and how many times it was performed. Was it holding, face mask, personal foul, unsportsmanlike, encroachment, illegal shift, roughing the passer, roughing the kicker, chop block, clipping, or pass interference? Let me know when you figure it out.
Think about what you said:  âThey yelled that our players were faking the injuries just to stop the clock. I guess it did not matter that we still had three timeouts left.â Yes, that is exactly why fans booed. If the injuries were as fake as they appeared, then not only did Southern Miss have 3 timeouts, they were getting even MORE time ON TOP OF 3 TIMEOUTS due to âinjuredâ players.Â
3. The booing
Hey, I will be the first to admit that the booing was uncalled for. We would not like it if another team booed us. It is what it is, though. From WKUâs perspective, yes, it was suspicious that Southern Miss players were dropping like flies then making their way back onto the field shortly after. Coincidence that the âinjuriesâ occurred after big WKU plays? Let me remind you that WKU fans did applaud, toward the beginning, when Southern Miss players were injured and escorted off of the field. Fans just had enough when the injuries became suspicious and methodical.Â
Moving on.
4. âAs soon as WKU realized that they were going to win our championship.â
LOLZÂ âOurâ
That was a Freudian Slip!Â
Freudian Slip: Â an unintentional error regarded as revealing subconscious feelings.
You think WKU took what was yours? You think the championship belonged to Southern Miss even before the game was played? Southern Miss was a shoe-in just because it is YOUR team?Â
The C-USA Championship Game is played between the winners of the East and West Division.Â
The championship is earned by the team who scores the most points.
45 > 28
5. Have you ever been to a football game?
I do not recall one game, in which WKU lost, where the opponentâs fans did not chant or sing some song like âNa Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbyeâ by Steam. It is in Remember the Titans for goodness sake. If you think that is wrong, then good luck erasing the history of football fans and hype songs.
Honestly, your story sounds as fake as the injuries. If you were truly harassed, why did you not tell police or security? Why did you reveal your disdain and the harassment stories in a querulous blog? Sounds like someone is trying to marginalize the WKU victory by shifting attention from the great comeback to a few bad fans. Now, I apologize if those events really did occur. It is tasteless. I have been to my fair share of games where the fans were classless. [Drunk] Vandy fans tried to fight a WKU fan who was just sitting there minding his own business. Do I think the entire fan base of Vandy is classless and lacks southern hospitality? No, absolutely not. In life, there are always going to be a few bad eggs. Â
You have done nothing more than make yourself appear to be whiny and lacking self-control:  spewing out the first thoughts that come to mind. When you speak of southern hospitality and class, but say things like âscrew you,â then you can see where you lose any credibility.Â
Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye.
**Congrats to Southern Miss and WKU on great seasons. That was a heck of a football game...the way a football game should be!**
6 Reasons Why You Will Fall in Love with WKU Football
WKU is 10-2, bowl eligible, C-USA East Division Champs, and 3 days away from playing in the C-USA Championship game. I have shamed fair-weather fans and listed every possible reason why someone should go to a WKU Football game. My work here is done, right?
Not. Even. Close.
I cannot fix the Cay-uts/WKU hybrid fans. I cannot convince lazy bums that 11AM is NOT the crack of dawn. I can write post after post, but, not even then, will it fix those poor, lost souls. So who do I address? Who do I convince to go to a WKU Football game?Â
It hit me.
This sounds simple. Too simple.
Q: Â Who goes to WKU Football games?
A: Â WKU Football fans
Q: Â Who does not go to WKU Football games?
A: Â Cay-uts fans. People who do not care or do not understand football.
I sat here thinking âWhy should someone who does not care and/or not understand football go to a game?â Then I started thinking, âWhen was my first WKU Football game? What prompted me to keep coming back?â Fans of any sort start somewhere:  whether your parents were fans, you attended the school, or the team/school is located in your town.Â
There is that tender moment when someone who is not a fan becomes a fan. It is like never having ice cream, then tasting it for the first time: Â you immediately love it. So just why should someone who does not care and/or not understand football go to a WKU Football game? What will make them become a fan and love WKU Football?
Here are 6 Reasons Why You Will Fall in Love with WKU Football
1. The satisfaction
You know the feeling. You are pumping gas, you hear the *click*, you look up at the price, and you pumped a perfectly, round, whole price of $20.00...not $19.78, not $20.01...but $20.00. Ahhhhh the sweet satisfaction. That is how it feels to watch WKU Football.
It is when Doughty throws a beautiful touchdown to one of his many receivers:
Or when Schwettman kicks an extra point or field goal and it soars perfectly center between the uprights.
Or just when it looks like Higbee does not have any more room to run, and he drags 3 defenders with him across the end zone:
Or when Nick Holt gets two interceptions.
Or when Wonderful Terry gets a pick-6:
Or when Nick Norris receives the ball and goes 10...no 15...no 25...no 35 yards for a touchdown:
2. The entertainment
Even if you do not understand football, you will be entertained. Aside from the game, itself, picture this occurring at the same time:
Fire as the team enters the field
Big Red (aka the BEST mascot) shaking his butt and eating pompoms
The band is playing good music and cheering louder than the student section
Fans dancing for the camera
A raffle for a Corvette or a contest for free tuition for a semester
You will find something enjoyable.
**On a side note - ummm, I miss the fireworks and cannons after a touchdown.**
3. The food
Moonlite BBQ, Steamers, and Sonic. Not only will you watch a great game, you will be well-fed. Big Red Skillet, Gumbo, Shrimp Basket, Baja Fish Tacos, BBQ sandwich...is your mouth watering yet?
4. The sites
Yup, this is real.

5. Watching future pros
There is something just plain âole neat about watching future professional players. You get to see them before they go big. You get to witness part of the journey.Â
Since we are playing Southern Miss. this week, I think it is appropriate to use the following example:
I am willing to bet plenty of Southern Miss. alumni or people from Hattiesburg, MS who did not watch Southern Miss football back in 1987-1990 regret not doing so. Why? They missed the opportunity to watch Brett Favre before he went pro...before he became a legend. They cannot say âI saw Brett Favre play before he became one of the best quarterbacks ever.â
I guarantee you will regret not watching Doughty, Higbee, and Taylor, just to name a few.
6. WKU Football is putting Bowling Green on the map
Bowling Green is not exactly New York City, Miami, Chicago, or Nashville. Us Bowling Greenians have heard it all of our life âBowling what?...Where is Bowling Green?...Is there anything in Bowling Green?âÂ
Yes, there are some things in Bowling Green (aka BG).
Aside from being the only place in the world to make the most famous sports car (Corvette), Bowling Green is home to the beloved Hilltoppers. And thanks to WKU Football, people are hearing a little bit more about Kentuckyâs 3rd largest city.
By attending a game, you are not just supporting athletics or WKU, you are supporting Bowling Green. The city, normally, does not get to host many events as big as the C-USA Championship, but thanks to the football team, Bowling Green now has the opportunity. It is good for the economy (hotels, restaurants, shopping, etc.), and it makes WKU/Bowling Green look great to [hopefully] have a full stadium when people are watching on ESPN.
The community comes together for a common goal. Revenues pump in to the University that help mold model citizens. Revenues help the downtown/campus renewal and expansion. [With the KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl on the same weekend] Local HS teams will enjoy seeing a community involved and potentially help the recruitment of the students and student-athletes.Â
When you attend a WKU Football game, you are helping Bowling Green.
By the end of a game, I guarantee you will look like this cat:
You have an opportunity to fall in love with WKU Football on Saturday, 12/5 at 11:00am. Be there.
Last Call, #PacktheHouch
First, Happy Thanksgiving!
Now, back to business.
We are 1 day away from WKU vs. Marshall: Â the game to determine the C-USA East Division Champion. Although the game falls on Black Friday, this is probably easiest game to attend all season.Â
$10 tickets in the upper, east-side corner of the stadium. Yes, you heard that correctly, $10 tickets.
Go to Ticketmaster and enter promo code BLACKOUT to save up to $10 off per ticket.
Students, as always, get in free.
Students, as always, can get an unlimited number of friends and family in for $15 per ticket.
For more ticket information, call 1-800-524-4733
So, if ticket prices have previously prevented you from going to the games, this is the perfect opportunity to go to a game. Not only is it the perfect opportunity, it is the BEST game to go to, as well. With all of the deals and promos, it is obvious this is a VERY important game.Â
Dear Bowling Green,
Bowling Green and surrounding towns, it is up to you. With students home for the holidays, you play a vital role in this game. Now, I say this with no intention of offending anyone, but in all seriousness...
Avid UK fans who live in Bowling Green and surrounding towns, let me spell this out for you. Your game is S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y, not Friday. WKUâs game is FRIDAY. If you are one of those hybrid WKU/UK fans, you have NO excuse not to attend the WKU vs. Marshall showdown.
Now, I am about to go on a bit of a rant.
Whether it is â11am is too earlyâ or âBut UK is playing,â I do not think I can bear to hear an excuse one more time. WKU is handily better than UK and U of L, yet people still drive 2-3 hours to watch the Cards or Cay-uts. You have a team in your backyard! A team that is 9-2, bowl eligible, and working toward a conference championship. UK is 5-6 and U of L is 6-5; neither will become conference champions. I especially do not want to hear the 11am excuse if you stayed up all night to Black Friday shop.
Marshall is on a Mission
Just search â#Marshall,â â#Herd,â or â#BeHerdâ on Twitter. Marshall has caught wind of our promos and has every intention of taking over the Houch. We HAVE to protect the Houch:  yes, even if that means waking up early to go to an 11 am game. They did not even bat an eye after their loss to MTSU. We have been their mission since day 1.
NOT IN MY HOUSE!
The team has done their part, now it is is our turn.
This is the most important game of the entire season.Â
Protect the Houch.
Pack the Houch.
And as always, GO TOPS!
Sooo, have you seen the Marshall hype video for the WKU game?
Back to back posts, so you know this is a big deal...
If there was any doubt that the WKU vs. Marshall game will be a showdown...the biggest game of the entire season...the game filled with the most emotion and intensity...well, I will just let this video speak for itself.
I am calling on everyone to attend the game this Friday at 11am. Bowling Green residents, be there. Glasgow residents, be there. Russellville residents, be there. Scottsville residents, be there. Alumni, be there. Students, be there. Future Hilltoppers, be there. Faculty and staff, be there. You can go Black Friday shopping after the game.
We need everyone.
This is the game Marshall has waited on ALL season. If that video does not illustrate such, then I do not know what does (even if it is fan made). Marshall is hungry. Forget about the MTSU rivalry, Marshall wants this to be 300 miles of hate. I mean, my goodness, the matchup even has a title: Â âMoonshine Throwdown.â As I said in my previous post:
Attendance for the 2014 WKU vs. Marshall game was 23,576 (at Marshall). Again, I would like to emphasize ON BLACK FRIDAY. If you do not think Marshallâs fans will travel well, think again. Marshallâs team and fans have a chip on their shoulder and they would LOVE revenge. I dare to say Marshall despises us a little bit more than MTSU, right now.

November 28, 2014
I have already seen Herd fans using the hashtag #PacktheHouch. Marshall fans have every intention of taking over our stadium: Â not cool. As fans, we absolutely have to show up and passionately cheer on our Hilltoppers.
This is the most important game we have ever played in our FBS career. This game determines the winner of the C-USA East Division. If we win this game, we have a shot at our FIRST EVER FBS conference championship. The team set the goal of becoming conference champions, and we need to help them attain this goal.
Some Notes
Students get in free
Students can get an unlimited number of guests in for $15 (each)
Children 2 years and under get in for free
Tickets for kids ages 3-12 are $15 per seat
Tickets are available through the WKU Ticket Office and can be purchased for as little as $25 per seat (double-checked this information and it is correct).
Game starts at 11AM
I expect "The Houch" to be packed Friday, no excuses #BeatMarshall

10 Reasons why you should go to the WKU vs. Marshall game instead of Black Friday
Letâs be real guys, you knew I was going to write this article. Without further adieu, I give you: â10 Reasons why you should go to the WKU vs. Marshall game instead of Black Friday.â
1. The Perfect Excuse
Donât want to go Black Friday shopping that your family is trying to drag you into? âOh, Iâm sorry. I already made plans to go to the WKU vs. Marshall game.â
It is a black out game, so that is sort of like Black Friday, right?!
2. WKU > Black Friday
Let me present this to you in a table.
Black Friday = blood bath
3. Doughty just asked nicely.
Doughty urges fans to come out morning after Thanksgiving. "We understand, but we really would like as much support as we possibly can."
â Zach Greenwell (@zach_greenwell)
November 22, 2015
AWWW who could say ânoâ to that?!
4. Take aggression out on Marshall instead of customers
Need I remind you of what we did to Marshall last year ON BLACK FRIDAY? Hereâs a quick recap.
Attendance for the 2014 WKU vs. Marshall game was 23,576.
5. Get your face on TV

6. Cyber deals are better anyway
If you just wait until Monday, 11/30, you can sit in your pajamas, pumpkin spice latte in hand, Netflix on in the background, and shop online. No lines, no crowds, and no screaming children (or adults).
7. Moonlite BBQ & Steamers are better than mall food
I really do not think this needs an explanation. Plus, do you REALLY want to fight for a place to sit?
8. You donât have to wait in line for pictures with this guy in a red suit
9. Say goodbye to the Seniors
Starts singing Vitamin Câs âGraduation (Friends Forever)â
In all seriousness, there are no words to express my gratitude for this special group. This is your last chance to watch these guys during the regular season. Show support for everything they have done for this program.
10. History in the making
This game is, without argument, the most important game of the season. This is THE game for the East Division Title. Whoever wins this, plays the winner of the West Division in the C-USA Championship. We made history against FIU by reaching our first FBS 9 win season AND we now have the longest active conference winning streak (10) IN THE NATION. Now, we have to opportunity to make history AGAIN by claiming our first FBS conference championship. I think Mr. Brandon Doughty and Marcus Ward said it best:
#BeatMarshall week is finally here...We need you to Pack the Houch this Friday! đhttps://t.co/nDpOPYJq0W pic.twitter.com/hiUReSXucn

****BONUS****
Higbeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Iâm sure you noticed that this guy was dressed for the FIU game. Theyâve been saving this guy for the grand finale. And just as a reminder: he CRUSHED it against Marshall, last year (6 rec, 99 yds, 3 TD).

A Letter to Coach Brohm & Coaching Staff
With the end of the regular season looming, schools with vacant head coach positions and their frustrated fans have increased their chatter about who should take over. That chatter started early with Illinois and South Carolina. Almost immediately, WKU Footballâs Coach Brohm was mentioned, and continues to be mentioned among vacant positions. Â
If I'm UK, stoops is gone and I'm going to bowling green and offering jeff Brohm everything except the key to caliparis office
â Corey Salsman (@corey4221) November 14, 2015
To any "Power 5" school needing a head coach for their football program, I beg you to take a look at @JeffBrohm at WKU. You wont regret it.
â Jon Barry (@Jonbarry502) November 21, 2015
@espn @Titans @WKUFootball @WKUSports I recommend you take a look at WKU's head coach Jeff Brohm to be the Titans new head coach #Titans
â Matthew Held (@Celebpetsmobi) November 3, 2015
I believe UVA should hire Jeff Brohm as the next head football coach. #cleaninghouse #NewEra
â Coupon Cam Beast (@FratMady) November 20, 2015
WKU Football fans and players, alike, are on the edge of their seats:  praying, hoping, wishing Brohm does not leave. With a Brohm departure, some coaching staffsâ departure would be imminent, as well. The only thing I know to do is to write and show support for Coach Brohm and the coaching staff. Coach Brohm and coaching staff, this letter is for you...no GIFS, no sarcasm...a genuine letter from an avid WKU Football fan...
Dear Coach Brohm & coaching staff,
It would be easy to say that WKU Football fans and players do not want you all to leave because that would be our 3rd coach departure in 3 years. It would be easy to say that we do not want to be the âorphanedâ team, again.
Sure those statements are true. However, you all mean so much more to the team and fans.Â
I was an athletic tutor from May 2011-December 2014 and primarily tutored the football players. I was there when, both, Taggart and Petrino left. You could see the confusion and frustration: Â the feeling of abandonment. I remember when, both, Taggart and Petrino left, I was tutoring a couple of guys. It had to be the worst tutoring sessions in the history of tutoring sessions: Â not because they were rude or defiant (they never were). Those particular sessions were the worst because the guys broke my heart. Their eyes were cast down, the normal smile and laughter was replaced with silence, and they were zoned out. No matter how well and how much they exceeded expectations, it was never enough.
Something awesome happened when you were selected as head coach and coaching staff. Not even with Petrino did I see such excitement from the team. I wish I could explain exactly what I saw and heard. They were not just excited, they were confident. They knew great things would happen, and their instincts were correct. It was not just the excitement of a new coach and coaching staff, they truly had faith in you all...they had faith in themselves.Â
You all are truly a perfect fit for Western Kentucky University: Â the final piece to the puzzle. You have done an amazing job upholding and respecting WKU traditions and values. We see the pride you take in the team and university. Much like what Jack Harbaugh and his coaching staff did for the program, I can already see how you have transformed the team in just two, short years during your time on the Hill. You all have turned WKU into a force to be reckoned with.Â
Although the future is uncertain, and I understand the importance of once in a lifetime opportunities, this letter is, partially, a plea to stay with WKU. Continue to build a legacy. Make WKU your home.Â
On behalf of the team and fans, we support you and we deeply appreciate everything you have done and continue to do for WKU Football.
-Hannah

This speaks for itself. If you do not attend at least one of the last two home football games to watch Doughty, you will regret it. Guaranteed.Â
Dear (insert friendâs name here),
On behalf of the WKU Football team and its avid fans, I hereby cordially invite you to WKU Footballâs Homecoming game on November 7, 2015 at 11:00 am Central Time. Black tie optional, jeans and tees acceptable.
Letâs get down to business. You have a friend that needs to get their butt out of bed and do something with their weekend. Or maybe you have that friend who constantly complains that there is ânothing to do in Bowling Green.â Or you have that friend who goes to or went to WKU and is trying to drive 5.5 hours to Athens, GA to watch their beloved Wildcats play Georgia (câmon, you knew I was going to make a UK jab somewhere ;) )
WWBRD (What Would Big Red Do)?
Big Red is not all talk. As a matter of fact, he is no talk. He has been to every game since 1979. So if he could talk, he would tell your friend to turn Netflix off, trade that ugly blue shirt for a red and white shirt, and come turn up at LT Smith Stadium.
Maybe you need a little help convincing them to attend. That is why I am here. My name is Hannah and I will be your guide this evening.
1. WKU Football is that kid from high school who went from awkward to hot over night.
2009 - 0-12 2010 - 2-10 2011 - 7-5 2012 - 7-5 (regular season) 7-6 (Bowl appearance) 2013 - 8-4 2014 - 7-5 (regular season) 8-5 (Bowl win) 2015 - 7-2 (so far)
Basically, WKU Football is Drakeâs song âStarted From the Bottom.â And for those of you who do not know of that songâŚin essence, WKU Football is the story of myths and legends:  a unicorn.
2. WKU Football is the best in the state.
I do not want to hear âWell, if e=mc^2, Louisville and UK are in power conferences, and WKU is not, then, we can hypothesize that WKU is not on the same playing field as Louisville or UK.â
Iâm not saying WKU has the best team in an opinionated âmy city is better than your cityâ kind of way. WKU legitimately has the best football team in the Bluegrass state. Donât believe me?
âI do know this: The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are the team that has earned the leadoff position in the Monday Muse this week. WKU should be the talk of Kentuckiana until Saturday.
So let the countdown begin with Brandon Doughty, Ace Wales and friends.â
http://www.wdrb.com/story/30294737/bozich-monday-muse-wku-has-earned-center-stage-over-u-of-l-uk-this-weekend
Currently, WKU is the only team in Kentucky that is bowl eligible.Â
UK (4-4; #75 according to CBS Sports 128)
U of L (4-4; #59 according to CBS Sports 128)
WKU (7-2; #33 according to CBS Sports 128)
*Drops mic*
3. Doughty
I could throw out all of Doughtyâs impressive stats and watch lists, but you can easily look those up. I am willing to bet that there are a ton of people from Southern Miss/Hattiesburg, MS who regret not going to watch Brett Farve play. There are probably a ton of people from Miami (OH) University/Oxford, OH who regret not going to watch Ben Roethlisberger. If you have not seen Doughty play, I guarantee you WILL regret it. You have 2 more home games to go watch him. Letâs reminisce on some of his beautiful TD passes this yearâŚ
4. Tyler Higbee, Taywan Taylor, Jared Dangerfield, Garrett Schwettman, Ace Wales, DâAndre Ferby, Antwane Grant, Nick Norris, Forrest Lamp, Marcus Ward, Branden Leston, Nick Holt, TJ McCollum, Derik Overstreet, Gavin Rocker, Dejon Brown, Wonderful TerryâŚ
Ok, at this point, I might as well list the entire roster. Every single guy steps up and makes big plays. We have the most entertaining offense, an O-Line who protects Doughty like pros, and a defense leading the nation in turnover margin. Letâs not forget about special teams and their reliability! I have faith in every single one of those guys. WKU Football has a complete team on all sides.
Also, can we all just take a second to applaud DâAndre Ferby, Ace Wales, Darmontre Warr, and Anthony Davis for stepping up after Leon Allen went down, and Tim Gorski and Devin Scott for stepping up with Tyler Higbeeâs injury. Thank you.
5. Who held Leonard Fournette (LSU) to his least amount of total yards in a single game this season?
WKU. WKU Defense to be more specific.
6. Votes in Top 25
Heading into Homecoming week, WKU has received 3 Top 25 votes. Yes, this is real life.
7. The man, the myth, the legendâŚHead Coach Jeff Brohm!
You can just tell he is a man of few words. A man who gets to the point. A man who would rather his actions do the talking. And he has done just that. Brohm has quietly and humbly turned this team into a force to be reckoned withâŚin just a little over 1.5 seasons. The man has not even completed a full 2nd season, and look what he has accomplished!
In all seriousness, show this man support. Brohm is THE perfect fit for the Hilltopper family. Do not be foolish; other schools have taken notice of this young and highly effective coach.
These guys deserve your support. Brohm and the rest of the coaching staff deserve your support. They have all more than earned it. What they have done is not easily accomplished by most programs. We have a special team right here, right now.
With 5 days until homecoming, it is time to send out your invites!
Letâs pack the Houch!
11/7 - WKU vs. FAU @ 11:00AM (Homecoming)
11/27 - WKU vs Marshall @ 11:00AM
Sincerely,
A girl who will not stop until the Houch is packed

Wow
Wow. I have got to say, I had no idea that âDear WKU Fansâ would receive the attention and support that it did. I was just sitting there, frustrated. I pulled up a Word document and started typing with no intention of publishing.Â
It is apparent that the article struck a chord.Â
I am a huge WKU athletics fan: Â not just football. During my undergrad, and into some of my graduate career, I tutored WKUâs athletes. They mean the world to me. They deserve all of the support and praise in the world for what they do on and off of the field/court/greens. I was writing on behalf of them and the consistently supportive fans.Â
I do plan on writing more, and maybe even making a couple of videos. Who knows.Â
Until then, today is game day! WKU @ UNT, 6:30 CT, CBSSN.
GO TOPS!

Dear WKUÂ âFans,â
It is amazing to me, amidst the national recognition WKU Football is finally receiving (and rightfully earned), that more fans have not attended a game. An average of 18,279 is not good enough. There seems to always be an excuse:
â11:00 AM games are too earlyâ
No. They arenât. Do you think an 11 AM game put a damper on the Michigan/Oregon State game? No, Michigan Stadium had an attendance of 109,651. What about when Michigan played UNLV at 11 AM? Attendance was 108,683. Oh, what about when Michigan played #22 BYU (at the time)? Attendance was 108,940. Do you think that Baylor and Florida State fans will not attend their respective games this Saturday, both at 11 AM? I am willing to bet fans show up.
Letâs just clear this up right now. I know WKU is not part of a power conference. My point is, ALL teams are prone to 11 AM games from time to time. It is the price you pay for TV time.
So let me ask you this: Â if 11 AM is the issue, why was attendance to the LA Tech game 17,525 at 7 PM? Oh right, because âit was on a Thursday night.â Ok, so I actually get the Thursday night point, especially if you work or have school the next day. My point is, no one is ever content.
âWKU is not a second half teamâ
Oh, I am sorry, correct me if I am wrongâŚWKU is 5-1 right now, correct? We lost in a shootout to Indiana who scared the pants off of Ohio State? So what that WKU could improve in the second half? WKU is WINNINGâŚand winning BIG.
Food for thought: Â WKU fans are not second half supporters.
Ya, I said it. Historically and presently, WKU fans leave at half-time. They either leave because WKU is winning 52-14 (cough MTSU), the game is too close, or WKU is losing at half. Insert a Goldilocks and the Three Bears reference here. When is the score going to be jusssssttttt right for some fans?
âBut (insert SEC team here) is playingâ
Bye, Felicia.
âTicket Prices, manâ
Students can get you half-priced tickets. $15 a game is looking pretty sweet, now! Amiright?!
âMy brother-in-lawâs friendâs wifeâs sisterâs dog died last night.â
Ok, my point being people come up with lame excuses not to wake their lazy butt up. Wake up, go to the game, go home and sleep. Or go home and have THE ENTIRE DAY to do whatever you want and watch whatever team you want.
What you are missing out onâŚ
I want to number this list just so you know how many great things are going on with WKU FootballâŚ
Brandon Doughty has thrown for 2359 yards - 2nd in the nation
Brandon Doughty has a 187.4 passer efficiency - 2nd in the nation
Brandon Doughty has thrown for 20 TD - 3rd in the nation
Brandon Doughty has 74.7% completion percentage - 1st in the nation
Tyler Higbee is the #1 TE in the nation
Taywan Taylor is the #4 WR in the nation
Nicholas Norris is the #38 WR in the nation
Garrett Schwettman (K) has scored 53 points - 33rd in the nation (including all positions)
Trick plays for days
WKU is #9 in total offenseÂ
WKU defense leads in national turnover margin
Flea flickers for days
Squib kick turns accidental onside kick recovery?!
5 votes for AP Top 25. Google search âAP Top 25âł and tell me who comes in at #33.
What SB Nation saidâŚ
âAfter easing by Louisiana Tech in Week 2 and falling in a shootout to Indiana in Week 3, WKU has cruised. And if they win out, the Hilltoppers could become a force in the race for the Group of 5âs major bowl slot.â
GET UP, BE HAPPY THAT WKU IS GETTING TV TIME, BE PROUD THAT WKU IS GETTING THE ATTENTION IT DESERVES, AND GO TO THE HOME GAMES! SELL OUT THE HOUCH!
11/7 @ 11AM vs. FAU (Homecoming)
11/27 @ 11AM vs. Marshall
Sincerely,
A fan that has not missed a home game since 2011
