I failed! I'm not upset about this, I knew I wouldn't make it to 50k, especially when I had much less time over this month to write and didn't know what I was doing half of the time. What disappoints and confuses me more about my writing this month is that I somehow didn't even start my main plot?? In hindsight, I probably wrote a few scenes that I could skip, and could rearrange most of what I've written to be after the scene which kick-starts the main mystery. I just wanted to establish some things first, and blinked and now not only is the month done but I hadn't gotten to where I wanted to be. Oh, well. I started this project because I explicitly don't consider myself good at writing and I want to be better. This is how you be better. You write baffling bad drafts.
I had lots of fun this month fleshing out my world and characters, and this has taught me how different priorities are when world building vs writing. Like, I still haven't really settled on an eye or hair color for my main character, but that's not really important since I haven't needed to describe her to the reader that explicitly. BUT I have described her grandmother, so I have a more solid idea of what she looks like! Interesting, right?
I'm going to continue writing this WIP, and I'm going to continue trying to write daily, until I meander my way into the end of the story. I then plan on rereading my work, annotating it, and then writing my second draft based on those notes. I have no plans on what to do after that.
I had a fun experience with nanowrimo, and I would have never started this WIP if i wasn't for the challenge!
