“You shouldn’t smoke at a wedding” he says as he walks up to us on the terass and simultaneously lighting a cigarette. He is past 35 years old, but not yet above 45 and quite handsome in his tux. He is Scottish, one of the only people here except for me and my company that aren’t American. I think how funny that there’s a Scotsman at this wedding, just like in “Four Weddings And a Funeral” - my main point of reference on what weddings are like. He is cheeky and makes a joke about how we all will end up in the same hotel room together. Him, me, my friend and his friend, a man shaped like a bowling ball. I laugh, because it will never happen. Later on in the evening, we encounter him again in the smoking area. This time we’re joined by two American girls and they get into a heated discussion with him on Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. He asks the girls if they were to meet Bill Clinton, would they do what Monica Lewinsky did and - here he makes an offensive gesture with his hands and mouth. I find myself thinking that I would quite like for him to meet the same fate as the Scotsman in “Four Weddings And a Funeral”.
