Analysis of “House Of Balloons/ Glass Table Girls” by The Weeknd.
I personally think this song is about someone being pulled into a world full of parties, drugs, hookups, and escaping reality. At first, it seems exciting and fun, but the longer you’re there, the more you realize it’s slowly ruining you.
In the first half, he’s convincing a girl to stay even though she’s overwhelmed. When he says, “If it hurts to breathe, open a window,” he’s brushing off how she’s feeling and It he’s manipulating her into staying by making the lifestyle seem normal and convincing her she’ll eventually get used to it. Even though she wants to leave, he keeps pulling her back in.
The second half, “Glass Table Girls,” shows what that world really looks like. The partying gets darker, there’s more drugs, drinking, and hookups. It feels like he’s trying to escape something, and he keeps pulling the girl back in because he doesn’t want to face it alone. Instead of dealing with his emotions, he keeps chasing temporary pleasures to fill the emptiness inside.
