hmmmmm. i don't know, anon, i think the cards in this deck are already so stacked against him that it would take a meteoric change of circumstances to save him. i'm also just not sure it's a thing he'd do, but just because he wouldn't do it doesn't mean it wouldn't have saved him if he tried it. maybe.

#I mean he was literally a bookkeeper before the war #I think he would single-handedly save a dying business and people would spread rumors about him committing tax evasion #even though he did it out of hard work and being smart #but even if he did it #it wouldn't save him sadly

Like, I don't get it?? Why JGY in especific? They could've used ANYONE. NMJ would be good for this. So would WRH and JGS and pretty much all men with very few exceptions. WHY JGY??? JGY, who could be killed on a whim and no one would bat an eye? (LXC and SMS would, but I don't think LXC would necessarily do anything about it, and SMS would but he'd get himself killed before anything of significance happened)

JGY who had very little reaction when Jin-furen threw a teapot at him? JGY who could only cower when NMJ lunged at him with baxia? JGY who's been under someone's boot his whole life?

every so often i'll just be hanging out minding my own business, and then i'll remember the time i read some commentary about cql episode 41 that insisted jgy was using nhs as a human shield against nmj during his qi deviation. then i get mad and stomp around complaining about it to my lovely husband (who does not know/does not care about this nonsense but patiently listens to me anyway). at some point in the recent-ish past i could have sworn i wrote up a thing specifically detailing why nhs-as-crybaby-meat-shield doesn't track, but since i can't find my own post about it, i'm just going to make another, shorter one with some visual references.

here they are. (zanzan stop looking at the camera, you're supposed to be a professional.) i wish i could make gifsets because the stills don't quite show you what's happening. but imo this is a perfectly analogous moment to the 'beguiling boy' section of the novel, where nhs is fully prepared to throw himself onto the burning pyre of all his most treasured personal possessions after nmj has set them on fire. the only reason he doesn't burn more than his hands is because jgy is there to grab him and hold him back.

in this moment, nhs is struggling to get out of jgy's grip because he wants to go to his da-ge--the same da-ge who just finished hallucinating that jgy was pulling a mcu loki maneuver, and was wildly swinging baxia around trying to kill him. if jgy had let go of nhs in this moment, nhs would be badly injured--just like what happens in the novel during nmj's qi deviation--or worse.

#Jgy while nmj is swinging his saber wildly and screaming 'I'll kill you': 🥱🙂🧍#Jgy when nhs arrives and nmj chills out a bit: I NEED A SHIELD #Yeah makes sense 🫠#Not even nmj (in the middle of qi deviation) could come up with some of the things that this fandom believes wholeheartedly

While making this poll I noticed that actually Wangxian are the subplot to the 3Zun story. The whole plot happened because of Nie Huaisang's 10 years old revenge plot against Jin Guangyao. Which happened because of the whole huge 3Zun drama.

Jin Guangyao was the one who killed the villain of the past time of the story and won the war. He was the one who went from being a poor outcast to the Xiandu.

The climax of the story is The Guanyin Temple. In the Guanyin Temple the main characters are Jin Guangyao, Lan Xichen and Nie Huaisang.

Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are... kinda there. Flirting and hugging each other.

In fact If you erase Lan Wangji very little of the plot will change.(I mean the book is in the romance genre so yeah, in that way it will definitely change drastically. But I'm talking about in- universe changes). Even in his own romance plot, he didn't have a very active role since LXC was the one who screamed at WWX about LWJ's love for him.

I always assumed that LWJ named his guqin after himself but I'm listening to the AD and the little LXC calls the little LWJ "Wangji" even though he doesn't have his courtesy name yet. What if LWJ named himself after his guqin instead?

Soo, either JGY sent it to LXC and JGS (and LXC knew about it, since he's not exactly surprised here) or WWX didn't know about JGY and LXC knowing each other beforehand and assumed he must have sent it to the Jin? 🤔

Calling Meng Shi delusional for believing JGS would come back for MY is so stupid. She lived in Yunmeng where people gossiped about WWX being JFM's bastard. Even though, JFM already had an heir and JC was even younger than WWX, he still took him in and trained him to be a cultivator. Nothing in the text suggests that MS wanted MY to be the next Jin heir (or even legitimized/adopted), she just wanted him to be a cultivator and with the example that she had, it's wasn't a ridiculous thibg to wish for.

actually…the only book of MXTX I could finish + reread + fully understand was SVSSS, I think it’s because it’s shorter and the events are more memorable personally. I’ve tried the other two but they just get so…boring? At parts. During my reread of TGCF I fully skipped a book just because I knew what was happening and it felt pointless to try to read them understand it as well

People say JGY betrayed LXC's trust by using the song of turmoil, but the fact that he could sneak into the forbidden library and remember everything he saw there, yet the only time he did it (as far as we know) was to kill someone who was threatening his life, was very cool of him actually.
