The first rule of fandom is have fun. The second rule of fandom is find an enabler and become an enabler. Yes you should write that fic. What if it was even hornier? What if it was angstier? What if you wrote it just for me?

Someone asked if writing is lonely and i had to think about it for a really long time. technically yes. you are alone in a room with made-up people and a document and a coffee that went cold an hour ago. but also there are like six characters in there with you and they all have opinions and one of them is being difficult and you're negotiating with someone who doesn't exist about a plot point that affects no one. lonely is not the word i would use. crowded, actually. it is very crowded in here.

It can be? Brainstorming with someone is exciting and energizing in ways non-writers probably don't really get, but slogging through edits alone can be draining. But the moments where the words are flowing because you exist in the scene? That's magic. The characters are alive in your head and no, not lonely at all.

Just spent 45 minutes researching what a specific street in a city smells like in october so i could write the word "damp." the word is in the final draft. it is doing its job. it cost me 45 minutes and a mild obsession with historical weather records. worth it. the word is perfect. you would not believe how hard i worked on that word.

I spent almost an hour on street view tracing a path through a city in Japan. I added a comment about a dog cafe. A single sentence. Also totally worth it.

Genuinely think the most underrated skill in writing is knowing when a scene is done. not perfect. done. there's a version of every scene that keeps going because you're scared to leave it, scared it wasn't enough, scared the next scene is harder. so you keep adding. one more line. one more beat. one more little moment. and the scene dies from it. it needed to end three paragraphs ago and you just kept talking because you didn't want to face what came next. same as real life actually.
