If I could do it again or if I could advise a younger man, don't commit to anyone. Keep it loose, no matter how lonely it gets, because there's nothing lonelier than locked up and lonely.

I don’t just enjoy sex. I enjoy sex with a woman who wants to have sex with me. These are two very different experiences.

I’m worried about the balance of power in my relationship. At the same time, I care about the other person and don’t want to make the relationship unsatisfying for the other person while I go through this struggle to retain my power and dignity. Grrr. Relationships are difficult.

Sexual relationships inevitably devolve into a power struggle.

I believe men always have to earn sex. Men are on the quest for a free lunch just like anyone else. Sometimes you meet a woman and you ease into a sexual relationship and it seems mutual and you hope it’s enduring, but it’s not. You are earning it, somehow. Maybe you make her feel happy, maybe she thinks you’re listening to her, maybe you have a lot of money. If at some point you stop earning it, the well will run dry. She’s really not into you for the sex. Either keep earning or line up some more wells.

At first they seem to understand your hunger and volunteer a duty to satisfy it and then they grow satisfied and duty becomes favor.

I went to the grocery store this morning to buy my parents a  card for their 57th wedding anniversary. Reading through the cards, I started to reflect on my own failed marriage and began to bawl, not just cry, bawl. Giant blobby tears, red swollen eyes, tears running down my face. I never expected that to happen. Thank God for sunglasses.
