This is my piece for the Parallel Stations Zine! One of my favorites that turned out really well!
Lo and behold, this was a collab with @fallen-shrimp! Why wouldn't we want to do our lovely AU together baha. I was really surprised that this AU was able to get into this zine just because most of our things are still in development and we barely have anything other than sketches out there pfft- Thank you beloved mod gods for giving us that chance ♡(˃͈ ˂͈ )
Within this zine, there were prompts; like different genres on a television. Hence the name, Parallel Stations! I found that so creative and absolutely love the theme of it. Shrimp and I both picked out "Broadcast" as to give ourselves a little challenge to things. It took a bit of brainstorming but in the end we settled on the thought to incorporate something of a newscast "cop and robbers" escape scenario. It's always the really silly ideas that stick to us.
I was quite busy with other projects during the early process of the zine. So Shrimp had the time to create thumbnails for both of us! Absolutely love how dynamic he made everything. We wanted to create cohesive pieces that showed a before and after of Ford through the Billfice, like Bill-Office (Our version of the Nightmare Realm). Shrimp partaking young Ford first entering it, and I taking that of older Ford escaping the place!
When actually approaching my part of the piece. I wanted to keep what Shrimp had originally, Ford leaning back tryin' to have fun, being a lot more comfortable and confident while still being in a pressured environment. Afterall, he is running towards the only way back to his dimension ദ്ദി´ ˘ `)✧
In terms of the background, yes, it is inspired by the backrooms fjhfjhkdsjhk we wanted to create environments that were more so on the liminal space/uncanny vibe. As Bill and the gang is a lot more "normal" in this universe and everything is suppose to feel twisted in a sense.
I later on realized that Ford might've needed to blend into the office instead of the fit he had on initially. The office worker outfit is, in a way, to replace his dimensional fit! The bootleg Nerf Gun on his back being the equivalent to his Quantum Destabilizer and the weapon he's currently holding being a wooden rubber band gun! Never allow this man to have a normal arsenal.
There were two types of lighting I had planned out for the second check in. Somethin' really bright but kept that yellow tinge to make things feel unsettling while making Ford really colorful and stand out. Orrrr put it into something that's darker and towards an earie vibe! In the end, the second one felt best. Thank you to everyone who helped on deciding this as well!
After everything was planned out, most of the time was spent rendering and fixing and readjusting soooo much anatomy. Especially with Ford's lower half and overall hoverboard. GAH- THE PAIN OF PERSPECTIVE AND FIXING THAT KNEE ( ╥ ᴗ ╥)
Oh! While tackling Bill's goons, Shrimp and I originally didn't know if we should have personalized designs for the Henchmaniacs. Maybe silhouettes- but even then, to keep everyone similar to each other. It's still in development and we're unsure if we're going to keep this idea. But for now, they do have some things customized to them!
