βah.β nari breathes her regards softly. a birdβs-eye view scours many things, all of them enchanting in their own way. seemingly appeased by the bounty of delicacies pushed nearer toward her, she extends two fingers into the pail and plucks out one treat. a courtesy gesture maybe, but she does like her prize. a red velvet macaron. she hasnβt tried it yet but she knows that itβs sweet. like hyunwoo, surely. asking her questions and sitting in silence beside her until the silence is overwhelming, then heβs even generous enough to pierce the veil. βis that really what you want to ask me?β with her teeth halfway into tender meringue, she narrowly and wryly eyes him in her peripheryβand then, she takes a bite.Β
βiβve never really thought about that. itβs just been something that i do. youβve got me thinking about it now though.β nari laughs. she turns to face hyunwoo. βit must be really different from being on the ground all the time, right? well. i guess i know it is.β nari pauses. a birdβs-eye view scours many things, all of them unexplainable in their own way. a black ant crawls through the grass before them, knowing nothing but that same ground. sequestered by winter and galvanized by spring, the dictatorial earthβs axial tilt and its orbit around the sun decides everything for the diminutive ant. she takes another bite and finishes the macaron.
Β βflying is alright. birds have hollow bones that break super easily. did you know that?β nari asks. she tosses hyunwoo a sideways glance. βthatβs why itβs easy for them to sustain themselves in the air. their whole bodies are made for flying. itβs their purpose.β for a moment, nari reconsiders. βtheir bodies were made that way, for that purpose. that macaron was really good. hey, whyβd you agree to come out and sit with me?β
hyunwoo might be miserable on more occasions that not, but he is curious. especially after recent events. still, he shrugs his shoulders unsure how to answer nari's question "what did you think i wanted to ask?" because small talk was never something he was good at. well, at least since he lost his memories, god knows what he was like before that. nowadays, he was just an awkward lanky guy.
"i would assume its different." he says says with a huff that sounds more like a laugh. he's still looking away from her, but his gaze does shirt to the sky in the hopes that maybe they would see a bird or two flying around. it was spring after all, everything should be waking up and getting busy again. he listens to nari speak, nodding his head to show he was paying attention.
"makes sense they break stuff easily." he hadn't thought about that. he's never really broken anything, at least he doesn't remember. hyunwoo parts his lips to speak again, but gets bombarded with statements and questions. he closes his mouth and hums quietly. he's slow to look at her, first at her feet, then the box of sweets and finally at nari.
"i baked them, thanks. i was worried i over stirred the batter. the almond cookies are also nice." he juts his chin at the box slightly. but now he's left. "the weather was nice. i should have probably gone out and gotten some fresh air." hyunwoo admits, slow and steady. he's been huddled up in his room since the hunt
"plus, you asked politely. you're nice company." he says, voice a bit quieter as if he's unsure if he can say those things.
rainvirnally:
(...) "i mean," the familiar starts, finally tearing his gaze away from juwon and looking somewhere further in their room "if you think you can do it and professor kang is willing to help or he has a clue, then it should be fine. right?" he looks back at her, brows furrowed and his hand finds its way on top of hers, still insecure and a bit twitchy "just don't do too much, okay? especially after the hunt.."
thinking about what happened during the hunt brought a somewhat melancholic smile to juwon's lips. she kept her eyes locked on hyunwoo even when he wasn't looking at her, her gaze scanned his features. her chest felt heavy each time she saw him worried. it was the same during the hunt and the moment they got separated.
she was looking down on their hands as she listened to him speak, nodding at his careful words. juwon played with his fingers, turning his hand up to trace the lines on his palm. she doesn't know if the gesture will bring him comfort but juwon does it nonetheless.
"i'll share with you whatever we find," she said, now drawing shapes on his palm. "but maybe next time you'll join me in the archives?"
as anxious as hyunwoo gets when she isn't in her line of sight, juwon feels the same whenever she's facing something that makes her nervous or scared. she believes she just hides it better.
if she were to be completely honest, she feared looking into their past. there was a sense that tells her that she should just move on with her life, build a stronger bond with hyunwoo regardless of what they've lost. but there was also a part of her that wants to know, wants to satiate her curiosity.
she was trying to comfort hyunwoo but holding his hand brings comfort in her too. it makes her never want to let go.
"what should we get for lunch?" she mumbled, almost absentmindedly.
hyunwoo can't help but look at their hands, at juwon's fingers running over his palm. he feels something swell in his chest as his shoulders curl more, he glances at her face quickly before looking somewhere further in the room again. he doesn't know how he feels about joining her in the archives.
was there any way he could help? maybe reach one of the higher shelves.. what shelves, he's never been there, he's being silly.
"dunno juwon.. would i even be of any help there?" he asks, more like fishing for some clarification than anything.
it didn't matter, he knows he would show up no matter what because its his witch that's asking him to do so. of course he would. he's said, multiple times - maybe its best they just look towards the future. maybe focus a bit more on the present that keep digging, but that's only caused arguments and hyunwoo doesn't really have it in him to argue. he feels that familiar knot building right behind his sternum and swallows, as if that would help.
he blinks once, twice, before looking at juwon with a tipped head.
"i haven't thought about lunch." he answers, brows furrowing. he hasn't been thinking about food or anything else since the hunt. maybe it was good someone actually cared about that "soup? maybe a stew?"
even when the sun is dead specially written for @bendear location, first floor (hall) bedroom 4
it's been so long since hyunwoo met donggu. like what? three years? yeah something like that and they started off on such a wrong foot.. hyunwoo doesn't remember ever apologizing, even though he feels like he should have. for getting so defensive and growling at donggu when they first met. and things.. well, they have changed, a fair bit probably. enough to have a visible shift in their dynamics, and hyunwoo does apologize nowadays when the accidentally growls or snarls at donggu. he's gotten better.
"you know," hyunwoo starts " i probably shouldn't have growled at you when we first met."
it's only them two in their shared room. for once he doesn't know where juwon had gone or if eunjae had gone out with her.
t's just the two familiars together in a room that feels somehow infinite times bigger all of a sudden. hyunwoo is curled on his bed, book in hand, not exactly facing the other familiar, but he could see him from the corner of his eye. its not the best way to start this conversation, but its been on the border collie's mind a bit too much as of late. especially with donggu being so kind to drag hyunwoo out and about on his birthday instead of sitting inside their room, obviously mopping about.

handle me specially written for @solephantasm location, school grounds
"so what's it like, flying?" hyunwoo asks and its probably a horrible way to start the conversation, but they have been sat in silence for the better half of an hour. its not that he doesn't like silence, he finds it nice, but he doesn't remember the last time nari actually spend time around him. he is curious (mildly suspicious) and it raises questions of course.
he wasn't going to address the elephant in the room. so, he does what he knows best and beat around the bush.
they are sat on one of the benches around school, the weather is getting better - more sunshine and blue skies, less rain and clouds. it's nice, the warmth on his skin. kind of reminds he of something he can't quite put a name to whenever the wind rustles by. hyunwoo looks over at nari, brows raised as he waits for an answer. he isn't in a hurry, but he does want to know. whats it like for other familiars. considering he's been here for three years and it took him one whole year to get out of his familiar form⦠it still feels weird talking to others about things only they could understand. makes his skin itch in a way.
he looks at the lunch box he'd placed next to him, filled with cookies and biscuits to the brim. he slides it closer to nari, fully accepting she might not even take one, but there was no harm in sharing. hyunwoo spares her another glances before looking back ahead of them, focusing on nothing in particular.
WHIM with ...? open starter ( up to two )
free will exists, somehow. known by everyone, but forgotten all too easily to be used with abandon. he decides to use his at ass o' clock in the communal kitchen, forgetting time and place in pursuit of the usual rituals to start the day. on the stove, the kettle hums with each rising tick of the temperature; his hands busy with impatiently rummaging through the third line of cupboards.
so far, he's found: crumpled coffee filters, tinseled holiday favors from last year, a variety pack of stale granola, the lone pine cone (?), and not a single tea bag in sight. so concentrated he is in his unfruitful search that the distant-turned-not-so-distant steps pattering into the open space barely registers. moving, moving still until he zeroes in on heavyset canister sitting on the topmost shelfβaha!βremaining fully blind to the new presence. that is, until eunho turns around, and nearly jumps straight out of his skin, only the metal can beats him to the leap. it hits the floor with a louder than necessary clang, but not without bouncing off of his big toe in the process.
ow? would be the sanitized thing to spit out in the presence of proper company, but he hisses sharp against the pain, forgets better language completely. "fuck!"
it wasn't uncommon for hyunwoo to end up roaming the school grounds, or at least their living area's in the middle of the night. for someone who struggled to sleep like him, it made sense he would at least keep himself busy even if it was making rounds.
but tonight felt a bit different at least with the shuffling and rummaging that came through from the kitchen. it did pique his interest, just a bit, head tipped to the side as he made the executive decision to head to that communal area. he sees eunho, doing a very diligent run through of the cabinets.
first, second, third. the other familiar finally seems to find something of substance. hyunwo can't quite see what it is, has to squint a bit but he gets greeted by eunho turning around. now, maybe in hindsight standing right by the kitchen door with minimal to no light was indeed a bit spooky out of hyunwoo, but he didn't have the hindsight in this case.
he sees eunho get scared shitless, the metal container falling on the ground and making so much noise it makes hyunwoo jump out of his skin-
"dude- you will wake up the whole building up-"
lotusless
.... she smiled at his apology, showed that she understood. juwon hovered over her pile of clothes for a bit before eventually taking a step closer to where hyunwoo was sitting. she placed the pants she was holding on its specific pile and didn't continue talking until she sat beside hyunwoo, knees pointing towards him. juwon placed a hand on his leg, not to stop it from shaking, but to show him that she was there and she was safe. they were both safe. her smile didn't falter once as she continued to talking, her tone with a bit more pep. "i was saying that maybe we can find out something this time around. i know we said we won't force any memories to come back to us," she said, her other hand reaching out for his out of habit now. "but it doesn't hurt for us to do some digging either."
things nowadays do seem to get easier, but there were moments where hyunwoo thought he was regressing in so many ways he couldn't possible count them.
today was one of those days, where he just couldn't focus and couldn't stop the tremors in his hands, or his shaky leg or-
at least juwon was understanding and hyunwoo knows that is the least she could do, but he doesn't mind. he's watching her move, the way she puts the clothes away, the way she sits next to him, facing him. he feels his breath get stuck in his throat once her hand is on his knee and his bouncing stops for just a second before it continues. he wants to hang his head in shame, wants to reach and move her hand away because even though he knows she isn't doing this to point anything out, it feels wrong he can't stop the nerves.
"i mean," the familiar starts, finally tearing his gaze away from juwon and looking somewhere further in their room "if you think you can do it and professor kang is willing to help or he has a clue, then it should be fine. right?"
he looks back at her, brows furrowed and his hand finds its way on top of hers, still insecure and a bit twitchy "just don't do too much, okay? especially after the hunt.."
hi all, i'm sorry for vanishing;
i will be getting back to my dms and such, i'm always open to plotting; however, if you would just like a random starter, please like this post and i will have something out for you by the end of the week! capping at 0/7
lotusless:
she returned her gaze to the group. "does that work for everyone?"
the air stills.Β
there's too much of it, he thinks faintlyβrushing to his head, spilling through the earth, soaking the sky.Β far too much for a crawling, starved thing to leave it alone. he knows because she knows, feels it because she feels it.Β
inhaling deep, he grounds himself in the balmy scent drifting through the pines, counts to three. exhales clean through his nose.Β
the moon looms behind them like a bad omen. eunho has yet to dare look it in the eye. instead, he trains his gaze to spot a clearing through the treesβmarks a straight shot right through the dense hang of the canopy.Β
better to be quick than die slow. better yet, to move now.Β
he nods at juwon, affirmative. "i'll start making my way up, then." and at the pace of pulses, eunho transforms: the stretch of skin, the thinning of bone, losing shape in an instant through the quiet rustle of ink-black feathers.
"does that work for everyone?" no, it doesn't.
is what hyunwoo wants to say but instead he kept quiet. his arms folder over his chest and fingers digging into his forearms, he keeps quiet and replay the plan. no matter how he twisted it and tried to justify it, he didn't want to leave juwon, sena or eunho out of his sight.
maybe it was for the better or worse, he couldn't decide.
the praise doesn't feel even remotely good as he nods his head, a bit absent mindedly as he looks at the sky above them. this all felt wrong, but hyunwoo was doing his very best to chuck it to his usual worries and woes rather than anything else.
"yeah, sure." his voice comes out a bit tight, stretched too thin. he hears more than he sees eunho transform and with a deep breath of his own, he follows suit. his own body morphs in a blur, black and white, before he settles on his familiar form, a black and white border collie quickly moving to sit next to juwon's feet.

i felt younger when i met you specially written for @lotusless location, first floor (hall) bedroom 4
cw; implied anxiety and injuries
the aftermath of the blood moon hunt is thought, even if hyunwoo does it best to keep it under wrap. it all happened so quickly. the way they split up, learning to work with a new witch for a little while, the constant anxiety brewing under his skin at the idea of juwon being somewhere out of reach of him again... he doesn't exactly handle it well. he could have handled it better, but it's been three days since he was last in his familiar form and the tremors in his hands isn't from the anxiety today.
they are in their shared room, tucked into their own corner and going through their laundry. fresh batch of clothes, they smell nice, easy to divide as well.
hyunwoo has kept quiet, listening to juwon as she speaks, hands working on folding different pieces of clothing to keep himself busy. he hears does listen, but he doesn't really hear her. it takes him a bit longer to realise his witch had stopped talking.
"sorry-" he starts, shoulder hunching forward a little bit more as he glances at her "can you repeat that?" hyunwoo asks, head tipping to the side as he looks at juwon, brows furrowed. "i was listening i swear-" it's a lie, they both know it but he hopes she doesn't point it out.
it takes him a few seconds to decide what to do with the hoodie he was holding in his hands, before finally dropping it on the edge of the bed and taking a seat. his leg bounces as he looks at juwon, giving her his full attention.
"you were saying." he feels a bit bad, having to stop multi tasking something easy just to listen to her.
ahaha aye its ya girl,Β nana (25+, she/her, gmt+0) bringing you familiar border collie,Β kang hyunwoo!
27, aries sun, gemini ascendant, virgo moon seoul born, moved to a small village in gangwon-do in his teens familiar to @lotusless
if youd liked to plot, hit that heart or slide in my dms x dc available @ nanathingz
trigger warning: fire, massive casualty, attempt of suicide, anxiety
very loving and happy to lucky parents, but always made sure to keep him on the right tracks; he had a small family, and they moved to the big city before he was born for a better life.
they stayed there until hyunwoo shifts for the first time into a border collie around the age of 9 and things only go downhill from there. he starts lashing out and is generally not doing too well; he spends the majority of his time in his familiar form, howling and mopping around.
in his early teens his parents have had enough of him being miserable (truly they were worried he would spiral and things will just get even worse) so they started listening to him. they make a few moves to smaller cities then villages and eventually land in the one where hyunwoo meets his witch. juwon.
they bonded very quickly and became inseparable. he followed her everywhere she went, usually in his familiar form. he even went back to seoul when juwon decides she wants to, and his family stay behind in the village as they have settled in well there. he would still visit back a lot, sometimes a few times a week, more so because juwon wanted updates and he couldn't say no.
they are both 25 when their village burns down and neither of them can do anything about it but deal with the consequences of losing everything.
he doesn't handle it quite as bad as juwon, but he does spend an uncomfortable amount of time in his human form as a lowkey subconscious form of self punishment because he couldn't do anything to help then and doesn't think he can help now.
he was there when his witch jumped off the cliff and he did his best to save her, and he did but alas, they both the suffer consequences of that action.
when he first joined the school, he was basically a ticking time bomb of anxiety; huge separation anxiety issues that he couldn't quite understand because he couldn't remember anything from the event that caused them both to lose their memories. (he is doing better now but his anxiety still spikes if he is away from juwon for long periods of time) still does the whole, staying in his human form way longer than needed as a form of subconscious punishment really
that being said, he is doing a lot better now than when he first joined, those around him can see a very cheerful and playful guy under the surface, he just needs someone to hold his hand (or pet him on the head)
as for plots, anything and all goes with him really.
a familiar that wants to show him he can be away from his witch and nothing bad will happen (good luck)
witches or familiars he actually manages to let loose a bit and be his previous goofy and chatty self
someone that just doesn't like him?? for any reason, could be he wasn't strong enough to protect his witch. or he is whiny lad.
other... dog familiars?? idk they can make their own little friend group
im open to any and all plots, sorry i lack them today. but my dms are always open so just hmu and im sure we can get something started!
