fun fact about my little echidna family: we're technically related through ancestry but not by blood. like... we come from the same tribe and all, but knuckles's parents didn't descend directly from tikal's family and neither did mine. still, we treat each other like siblings anyway. tikal is the oldest (ofc) and the caring older sister, knuckles is the youngest, and i'm the middle.

some additional information:

tikal, being the (chronological) and metaphorical oldest child, had been so used to playing peacemaker all her life, bc she believes that avoiding conflict is the only solution to achieving peace and harmony. ofc that didn't work out, but she has since learned that avoiding conflict and trying to mediate passively isn't always the best solution to problems. she's now taken to believing some violence and fighting is needed sometimes, but she still defaults to trying to deescalate situations first.

knuckles, being the youngest, had believed it became his sole responsibility to take up the mantle our ancestors left behind and guard the master emerald with his life, believing that's what they wanted him to do. being from a warrior tribe with no one to teach him otherwise, he believed confronting conflict would always be the only solution to everything. like, EVER. he's so dumb bc he doesn't pick his battles and thinks he's so invincible, bc he wants to uphold the tribe image... which he exaggerated ngl. it takes him a lot of talking to (and lecturing from teeks) to finally FINALLY get it through his thick skull that fighting smart is always a better option than fighting dumb. (who am i kidding? he's so dumb bc that's his default setting, lmao jk knux, ily li'l bro)
