So. We have a bit of an unusual problem. The Gloink Queen lives in a bioactive enclosure with isopods. I fed her isopods some corn as I try to give them variety in their diet.
Unfortunately, at some point The Gloink Queen set her egg ball down, saw a corn kernal, and in her teenie tiny mustard seed brain she decided this was not a corn. This was the ultimate egg ball.
I have tried to help her, this poor creature who pranked herself. However, every attempt to try to remove the corn, or hold it and chase her away from it to try to get her to take her actual egg ball?
Results in her entering a fight to the death with me to protect her corn kernal baby. I don't know what to do. She has done the equivalent of taking her child to the clothing store, then sprinted out with a well dressed child mannequin, then gotten into a hostage situation WITH THE POLICE while they try to retrieve the mannequin and reunite mother and child while she screamed, "I DON'T KNOW WHO THAT IS! THIS IS MY BABY! LEAVE US ALONE YOU MONSTER!"
She refuses any intervention and squares up with me if she thinks I will take her children of the corn. I'm hoping she figures it out.
ok anyways. post this beast

ContraPoints’ whole deal is that she’s an anti-populist whose career is completely entrenched in populism. she wants to conceive of herself as pushing back against simplistic moralism and rhetoric, but her entire body of work is made of spectacle-driven annual YouTube videos about things that grind her gears on Twitter. which is to say her livelihood is constructed from intrinsically populist material and mediums, being algorithm-driven social media
Wireless internet access is on the rise in both modern consumer societies and in the developing world. In rich countries, however, the focus is on always-on connectivity and ever higher access speeds. In poor countries, on the other hand, connectivity is achieved through much more low-tech, often asynchronous networks.
While the high-tech approach pushes the costs and energy use of the internet higher and higher, the low-tech alternatives result in much cheaper and very energy efficient networks that combine well with renewable power production and are resistant to disruptions.
If we want the internet to keep working in circumstances where access to energy is more limited, we can learn important lessons from alternative network technologies. Best of all, there’s no need to wait for governments or companies to facilitate: we can build our own resilient communication infrastructure if we cooperate with one another. This is demonstrated by several community networks in Europe, of which the largest has more than 35,000 users already.

Feel free to ignore this if it's too awkward but what are your main issues with Tumblr Trans-feminism, and do you have any suggested reading on the matter?
To your second question, read Talia Bettcher's entry on "Feminist Perspectives on Trans Issues," and Perry Zurn's entry on "Trans Philosophy." You could also throw in Mari Mikkola's entry on "Feminist Perspectives on Sex and Gender." Then explore the citations that strike your interest. What resonates with me may not resonate with you and I think the subject of "transfeminism" is too expansive and tangled to do it justice in just a few readings. Forewarning that there is sometimes some nasty stuff in there, both because transfeminism has had to respond to transphobic material and because philosophy (especially Anglo feminist philosophy) has proved especially accommodating to transphobic actors.
I don’t know if it’s specifically a Tumblr problem. I am generally skeptical of what I see as social-media-driven political forms, especially those that are participating in some form of ideological nostalgia rather than innovation and creativity. But I think there are layers here. The TL;DR is that social media is a bad avenue for these discussions, because the nature of the platform means that a lot of the actors here are more interested in promoting themselves as glamorous radical philosophers. This has consequences for what kind of audience they cultivate and what kind of work they produce.
Problem of Forum:
By virtue of taking place *on* Tumblr it has all the regular problems of social-media driven political forms - being easily animated by populism, shallow rhetoric, daily clique drama, and authoritarian-personality clout demons. Whoever can talk the loudest, be most inflammatory, and repeat the slogans the best, sets the tone for discussion. And there are emotional (and sometimes financial) incentives to be that person within the attention economy. Plus there are unique problems of trying to do theoretical work on Tumblr, a website that historically pumps out two things: fandom content and social-justice posturing. It selects for people who 1) care a lot about TV shows and video games and fiction and/or 2) care a lot about seeming maximally left-wing according to their personal definition of that term. This can color the way people interact with (trans)feminist ideas.
one of the funniest conversations I ever had with my ex was when they were still getting used to Celsius and asked me "what's 20 degrees?" and instead of converting it, I said "it's the highest your dad will ever let you set the thermostat and when you say you're cold he tells you to put on another sweater, we're not made of money" and they went "oh, 68"
the fact that this reference was that fucking precise was something they went on to tell people about for years.

Things that will never make me think less of someone: Enjoying media, entertainment, or aesthetics with ideologically reactionary elements
Things that will IMMEDIATELY make me think less of someone: Insisting that the ideologically reactionary media, entertainment, or aesthetics they enjoy are actually Le Hecking Epic Wholesome Leftist Praxis
To draw upon a semi-recent Discourse topic, if you encounter a claim along the lines that, idk, for example, the imagery and cultural idea of Knights as it exists in pop culture is entrenched with a long history of islamophonia (due to how much of this cultural imaginary comes directly from the narrative of the Crusades) and your response is "I still think knight imagery is cool, I don't enjoy things based on how ideologically correct they are" I'll respect you infinitely more than if your response was "Actually liking knights is leftist because there's nothing more leftist than protecting those weaker than you"

Strong winds have struck Gaza and are hitting our tents harshly. The sound of the wind is terrifying, and the tapping of the rain on the tent’s roof frightens us just like the sounds of the explosions once did.
We spend the night awake, counting the minutes in fear of flooding, watching the water crawl toward us slowly and dangerously.
We are tired of pleading, tired of writing, tired of shouting that we are sinking while no one hears us.
We are in pain, and all we have left is this pain as a witness to our lives.
We are asking for your support to help us improve our living conditions inside the tent, reduce the risks of the harsh weather, and secure the bare minimum of our basic needs.
Your support makes a real difference in our daily survival.

White-Marked Tussock Moth: the females of this species are essentially wingless, and they have plump, grub-like bodies that are covered in fuzz
Orgyia leucostigma, commonly known as the white-marked tussock moth, is one of the few known examples of a flightless moth. The females of this species are brachypterous, which means that they have tiny, vestigial wings that are completely non-functional; in fact, their wings are barely even visible at all.
Above: close-up of a female white-marked tussock moth
As this article describes:
The adult form of Orgyia leucostigma exhibits strong sexual dimorphism. The males are small, grayish-brown moths with a wingspan of about 25-35 mm. They have feathered antennae that they use to detect pheromones released by females from a considerable distance.
In contrast, the females are wingless and remain on or near their cocoons after emerging. They are larger than the males and have a plump, cylindrical body covered with dense hairs. Since they are flightless, females rely on releasing pheromones to attract males for mating.
Above: the photo at the top depicts a female white-marked tussock moth, while the photo on the bottom shows a male of the same species
After mating, the females lay their eggs atop the remnants of their own cocoons, then cover them with a frothy substance that quickly hardens to form a protective barrier around the eggs.

According to this article:
The white-marked tussock moth is native to eastern North America and parts of Canada. This species of tussock moth overwinters in the egg stage. Eggs are laid by females in groups of approximately 300 in a white frothy mass on the cocoon from which the female moth emerges.

Flightlessness occurs in several other tussock moths of the genus Orgyia; it can also be found in some species of bagworm moth (family Psychidae) and footman moth (subfamily Arctiinae).
Above: these photos show female clouded footman moths, Anestia ombrophanes, which are also flightless/wingless
