Senate kids’ safety probe targets Roblox gaming platform

“Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) launched an investigation Wednesday into Roblox’s handling of child safety on its online gaming platform.”

They wrote a letter that basically pointed out that Roblox “prioritize revenue and engagement metrics over the safety and well-being of our children” as well as alleged criminal activity

They believe this “warrants congressional scrutiny,”

Roblox’s response

Matt Kaufman, Roblox’s chief safety officer said back that they don’t compromise on safety

“We look forward to sharing the facts about how we protect children on the platform.”

“As part of the probe, the lawmakers have asked Roblox CEO David Baszucki for documents detailing how the platform protects minors as the Senate intensifies scrutiny of children’s online experiences.”

“Hawley and Durbin’s missive lay out a series of high-profile instances in which adult users allegedly committes “serious acts of violence and harm against children they met via Roblox, including grooming, sexual abuse, kidnapping, rape, and even murder.””

“The pair asked Roblox for a response no later than Aug. 31.
