I have spoken a8out Z to three of my close friends, one 8eing my partner Tz. They all had something 8ad to say a8out her, mostly towards her treatment of Percy, and the hollowing nature of “trying to 8e an influencer” 8ut wow don’t I see a much more interesting character.Â
The last dialogue 8etween her and A88y 8efore the ending movie is like, it’s that 8u88ling tension under the whole thing that Z is fed up and tired with her life as it has 8een, and she is directing her anger towards the internet as a concept, which is the element that even made “The Incident” possi8le in the first place I am sure.
My sympathies for this are immense, and for this reason she makes a good protagonist alone. It made it clear to me at least one message Hussie is trying to send, the disgusting and terri8le nature of the internet and whatever it means, in the year 2020. It’s not even 8ecause of this year at all that it is so, it’s 8een this way for so long now we just kind of accept it.Â
It used to 8e a place to go and chat, do dum8 shit, there was a childlike glee to the whole thing, I formed my personality here, and I had my most memora8le moments here as well. Now, I am like releg8ed to closed of circles in invisi8le spaces, most of the internet isn’t even for me, and even I have had moments when I decided I want to try and gain “clout” and get follows, mostly for 8eing an asshole pu8lically, 8ecause you can do that now. You can 8e a huge enormous scum sucking asshole and get a following, people simping, people CLAMORING to interact with you.Â
The amount of apathy towards life, and even what she is trying to cre8 on the internet. She doesn’t want to work, she doesn’t even want to 8e “an influencer” she’s missing something, and the powers that 8e, systems and pressure of the reality of 2020 pressing down upon her make her just utterly fed up with it all. I feel that, that has 8een my exact st8 of mind for years now, and I only distract myself from it. It’s not even this edgy nonsense, it’s just the reality of existance. No career, internet clout, amount of simps, video game, or social phenomenon, none of it really is making any sense. I mean why? It’s no coincidence that her manifesto is an “incendiary leftist” manifesto. 8ut don’t get that wrong to say that somehow modern and contemporary leftism is the answer even either. It’s just a mark of the times, how so many of us are already 8eyond interfacing with the systems that we live in. We know things are shit, and we know things can 8e 8etter, 8ut their not, everything is just getting worse, and a lot of us can’t even find refuge in our ideals anymore. 2020 is just a year, and it’s nothing to special, it’s just the year in which all this is made painfully aware to me, and people like me.Â
What we are going to see in the next few chapters is Z using this disillusionment with the decrepit systems we ha8itually partake in, to tear them down, at least for herself, and forge a new different path out of this nonsense way of life.
