Henry and Graham argue the night before he leaves.

"It's not safe among the common people," Henry says, despite Graham being convinced otherwise—already donning the wares of the peasant class.

"Please, Henry. If they're planning on turning on us, I'd like to try and settle the matter," Graham pleads, and Henry frowns, glaring slightly.

The fool thinks he can run with both the foxes and the hounds.

Henry sometimes wonders if Lady Anne had the right idea. She'd left her titled landowner husband for a simple—but probably safer—life in the convent.

Graham is a fool, but he's Henry's fool and perhaps Henry is the stupid one for not being able to say no to him. So he writes a letter—made out to Richard Wall, a yeoman who had once worked for him.

Please see to it that no harm comes to Graham as he passes through. You shall be duly rewarded.

He gives it to Graham, along with a kiss and a wish for safe travels. He walks away, thinking himself quite clever.

Word soon reaches Henry—Graham has beaten up in the town square. An example. Richard did nothing, having being promised even more by Hickey and his band of thieves.

They're lucky it wasn't worse. Lucky that Graham returned to him, physically whole, albeit tired out from his ordeal.

Henry climbs into bed, taking him into his arms as Graham trembles.

"Shh, love. I'm here," Henry says offering words of comfort and reassurance until Graham eventually settles down to sleep.
