Valko is Asian - confronting stereotypes and unrealistic beauty standards
Yes, I’m gonna do it. I’m going to confront this because I have been so so tired of this situation as someone who is Asian. So let me get this straight. According to people who don’t like Valko, or think he looks ‘ugly’, they naturally assume that every good-looking Asian man has to have three specific features:
1. Pale skin
2. An extremely slim jawline, almost triangle shaped
3. Long bangs/medium length hair
I’m not saying no one can have these features, but ever since Valko’s release, multiple players have been making the excuse ‘he looks too Western’ or ‘he’s too European’. First off, even if he was, why is that a problem? You’re just promoting racism. Second, just because he doesn’t fit your unrealistic beauty standards, doesn’t mean he isn’t Asian.
I don’t know if anyone else can agree, but I could immediately tell he was Asian if I had never seen him before, and even if I wasn’t a player.
Valko has slightly tan skin, yes, and this is normal. It doesn’t mean he’s a different ethnicity, or race, or anything else. It is very common for East Asian people to have pale skin with olive undertones, and I don’t think anyone realises that. It’s insane to think that the CN players themselves think that every Chinese fictional character needs to have skin as white as snow or however you say it.
Some good examples of people in real life who I think look similar to Valko in terms of their facial structures are Yehao (model) and James (Cortis).
Also his skin tone is actually extremely similar to Sylus so I don’t know why they’re complaining now all of a sudden.
His jawline is more broader(I don’t know how to say it completely in English so I hope you know what I mean T-T). And again, this is normal. Not every male character that is East Asian has to have a triangular chin just to appeal to your tastes. If you want that go to other games.
And despite this, the other love interests have different facial structures too, so why is Valko’s specifically so different? Is it because he’s more realistic in his facial features?

The foolish decision: Changing our main hashtags out of fear and immediately blocking anyone who dared to criticize the move. Then, once the damage metastasized and misinformation spread like wildfire, they quietly walked it back while pretending none of it was their fault.
The real result: They destroyed our algorithmic momentum, erased weeks of hard-earned engagement, and severely delayed our visibility on the trending topics.
2. The release of a highly anticipated banner
The foolish decision: Instead of enforcing the most fundamental rule of a boycott (zero pulls), they actually posted guidelines telling people it was fine to pull on the "3rd or 5th day" to "help." Who on earth boycotts on a scheduled spending delay?! Those who were going to spend were going to do so anyway.
The real result: They handed out a psychological free pass. Players who were originally holding the line ended up pulling because these accounts falsely claimed it was "safe for the movement to spend a few days later." That is the exact opposite of a boycott.
3. Cowardice and blatant hypocrisy regarding the JP server
The foolish decision: Japanese players told people not to comment on a collaborator's posts out of fear of "losing future LADS events." In response, people began gaslighting global players who were simply showing love for Valko. They had the audacity to draw a false equivalence between politically sensitive, historical dates in China and some people's selfish desire not to miss out on gacha events. To make matters worse, they paraded charts claiming JP was the "most successful" boycott based on relative percentage, completely ignoring basic math, as JP has one of the smallest total player populations.
The real result: Infold will look at the lack of public pressure, see the event generating revenue, and assume the global community has accepted Valko’s cancellation. All of this just because a privileged subset of players is terrified of losing future events, while the rest of the world doesn't even get regional events and is still on the front lines fighting every single day.
A boycott that doesn't hit a company's bottom line and public image is not a boycott, it’s just performative virtue signaling. Soothing your own ego won't bring Valko back; strategy, unyielding pressure, and financial consequences will. STOP making excuses for mediocre decisions influenced by "leaderships"...

Players have generally agreed that #ValkoWasFramed insinuates that we are challenging or placing blame—which we want to avoid for the sake of not causing any controversy. Now, we want to avoid directly confronting Chinese media.

SPECULATION: I'm going to be frank with you—we're probably looking at getting Rafayel's 4th myth on July 17th. Infold is likely desperate to see a jump in revenue. Here's how the revenue chart is looking:
Basically, not good. This is only over the span of a month.
Once again, I'm going to be honest with you—if we want Valko back, we have to hit Infold where it hurts: revenue. That means absolutely no spending. As a myth collector, this is extremely frustrating to me, so believe me when I say that I understand how many of you feel.
However, you can absolutely choose for yourself. If you want to pull for it, don't let anyone shame you into feeling guilty.
But this post explains it well. "If spending spikes back to normal, headlines will write 'the boycott collapsed' and our leverage evaporates exactly when the company is deciding how much our waiting matters." This boycott does not have a deadline. It ends when we get Valko back.
Remember, banners always rerun. There will always be another chance to get it. I'm okay with missing out if it means making this protest stronger.
I very much encourage you to continue boycotting. Money is the universal language. Personally, I will not be touching the game until Infold releases an official statement.

I'm just writing whatever comes to mind. unfortunately even some valko supporters are divided on whether to completely delete the game or continue logging in but not spending money.
remember that as soon as infold announced valko's cancellation, they promised to hand out ONE empyrean wish everyday for a month. a month. they clearly want players to at least continue logging in. they are obviously able to monitor how many users are active. they're trying to keep the players hooked by baiting them with a mere candy trail.
every action counts, but deleting the game has the biggest impact. because, not only will players not be spending any money, they won't even be active on the game. additionally, a lot of valko supporters have pointed out that they're likely toying with the fans by announcing only within the game and going radio silent on social media.
in response to this, it is crucial for the boycotters to be even more headstrong and thus withdraw from their attempts to reel them in with in-game announcements.
for the boycott to work, we're not even supposed to grace them with our presence. otherwise, we'll be giving them an impression that we're interested. it's only been like two weeks, and I understand it's exhausting, but this is how boycotts are. especially when a multi millionaire corporation is trying to give us the silent treatment. but before giving up, consider how much this movement has achieved within such a short amount of time.
no matter what is happening within the game, infold needs to grow tf up and deliver their messages on social media itself rather than cowering behind the currently bugged asf game. don't let them bait you with anything or lure you in. you're better than that, we're all better than that.

So, accusations of sexual assault/🍇 are where I draw the fucking line. As a victim of the above myself, I cannot let this abide in any form and I would be doing a disservice to myself and my experience on this earth if I ever fucking let this go. Then watch the state media pressure.
June 28, 9:08 AM: Beijing News "Six Questions" rejects that apology in print. It was 8 hours old.
June 28, night: the Women's Federation's magazine — enters hours after the PV airs
June 29: China Women's News named editorial
June 29: China Women's News AGAIN, on the 0731 defense: "fails to convince"
June 29, 8:20 PM: Guangming Daily. A central party paper.
June 30: Ban Yue Tan. Xinhua-run.
June 30, evening: Valko is cancelled. Permanently. With a promise to never add a male lead again.

The marketing numbers didn't add up, a large portion of CN population really liked Valko. Obviously the rest of the world liked Valko.

GET LOUD about false media in China. I mean LOUD. We have to change the narrative. Everything they are spreading is complete slander. This is where the sexual assault and predator allegations against Valko are stemming from. They're taking clips of his trailer fully out of context and changing the story entirely.
Infold is fully capable of bringing a lawsuit against these media outlets. "Under the PRC Civil Code, companies have a legally protected reputation. If a news outlet, blogger, influencer, or another company publishes false statements that damage a company's reputation, the company can file a civil lawsuit." I am hoping that their current silence is because they are taking legal action. I'm not sure how likely that is, but my fingers are crossed.

Our goal is to flip the narrative. Show why they are incorrect. Prove that they're spreading misinformation about Valko and LADS. We bring the receipts. What they printed, next to what's verifiably true. Keep it straight-forward, to the point, and undeniably factual.
This cannot be rushed—it could backfire immensely. We cannot go against their government because it could negatively affect the CN players. The problem needs to be highlighted as “a danger to the positive view of China” from foreign players.

I hit my lowest yesterday, not gonna lie. Seeing everything was like a gut punch, so I sat with my feelings for a while, cried and listened to some music.

We have to remember that we're dealing with unhinged, mentally ill individuals. And while I fully believe that Infold has created a monster of their own making, no person deserves to be threatened and made to fear for their lives over a video game.
You can't rationalise with mentally ill people (I should know, I work in a mental health hospital). But given that Infold was hit with multiple attacks on their HQ shortly before the 9th, it's no wonder we didn't get any form of response. We saw how the issue escalated when they doubled down on including Valko before they backtracked.
I can be patient. I really can. And I'm not saying that this hasn't been hard, I miss Caleb so much... but I want to push until they acknowledge us with something. I have to. I can't let hatred win. I won't accept it until something happens. They release Valko or the company folds.
They see us. I know they fucking do.
The censorship upsets me but the haters have already proven that they will sink to multiple lows to get anything flagged. Their rivals have money to push against them (and a certain one keeps advertising their game despite this knife attack. Bad taste but okay). My best hope is that Valko is being reworked to avoid any more controversy (but we know that when you give idiots an inch they'll take a mile so who knows).
