Family and friends, thank you so much for your birthday wishes✨ As the sun begins its setting, and its last light of the hot day breaks through my glass windows, I’m settling into this new year with some intentionality— embarking on this next journey around the sun, working towards love, peace, and hope. This past week, I read through a lot of my old journals, (cringeworthy, I know) and in the depths of the old, I finally had a moment to recognize myself through the layers of skin I have shed over the years. I’ve worked really hard to center myself and my healing, and it’s starting to show. Personal growth has been important for me, and setting boundaries— that for many of us, is a radical act. I’m grateful that I’ve had the privilege to do so, and thank so many of you who have stood by and not given up on me during— what had been at times, some of the hardest moments of my life, Working towards living my best and healthiest life. Last night during my nightly therapeutic bike ride, it was more than evident how the fires across New Mexico are impacting all of us. Waking up to a smoky morning, and now the smells of the fires intensifying here in Las Cruces, I really hope the realties of climate change and the horror it’s brought upon our communities across the state, will be the alarm that is needed for leaders to wake the fuck up—and fight for our state, it’s people, it’s land, and it’s wildlife, rather than their sadistic obsession to profit and revenues. New Mexico is on fire and the unwillingness to address climate justice with urgency will not be forgotten by myself and many others. Please consider this as we head into June 7–probably the most important primary in New Mexico’s history, and the leaders you choose at the ballot box. I recognize that voting isn’t the only answer, but in the midst of what communities are currently facing today, Republicans and conservative fucking Dems are not the answer to the wrath we’re all facing. Little Rubes Cinderella smile, for ole time sakes. Today, I replaced my two front teeth that I almost lost in a car crash, back in high school in the Fall of 1996. Shortly after the crash, my teeth were found on the floor board of my beat up old VW Beetle, and later contained in a glass of milk to keep them “alive”, and eventually and surgically put them back in. Like, for real, for real. BUT—doc clearly told me that day that the two front teeth wouldn’t last more than five years, and I’d eventually need implants. Fast forward 26 years later… They suddenly fell out on Saturday while I was in Roswell, luckily surrounded by familia who knew what was up. Thankfully. Today’s procedure was traumatic and hella painful (and oh so expensive)—with more work to be done in a month. But today also took me back in time to think about the day that unleashed present day (thank god I had therapy scheduled today) Tonight, I’m thinking about the silver linings. Grateful that I can manage and afford something that should be free for all, especially dental health, which they won’t ever tell you— but is critical for overall health. But also thinking about what a life I’ve had so far. Losing these two teeth today meant something more to me today, then I would have ever imagined.
