We dropped by Soon Bee Huat's showroom at Toh Guan on Monday to choose the tiles that we want and we were spoiled with choices! It was really hard to decide on the textures and colours so we brought home 14 samples! Yup, ours is a Standard 5-Room HDB with no flooring done. We opted for no doors too, which explains why we only got 3 bunches of keys. At first, we were thinking of using laminate or vinyl in the bedrooms, but then settled with wood grain tiles instead (since it's more durable too). This option also saves us the hassle of having to screed the surface for our initial choice. Win-win; we still get the woody texture. We've just decided on 3 tiles out of 14 samples we got. Now, you can probably guess the theme that we're going with from our selections, yes? There won't be hacking or any major renovations (unlike what I actually wanted, that is, before realising how tight our budget is) but the house is still going to be cosy enough for us and has what we love. This I'm sure. Another takeaway, and an appropriate one for this, from Cindy is: Don't make your home look like another showroom. Point well taken! And well, if it's going to turn out super gorgeous and ends up looking like a showroom, then it better be different from what every one else has. ;) #projectSRRliving #SRRlivelovebuild #nofilter

After speaking to a few IDs, trying to come out with a realistic budget that (hopefully) won't kill us later, struggling with mental notes of our needs and wants (with no thank to the huge library of ideas out in the WWW and constraints in terms of budget, space and structure of the house), constantly asking for advices, tips and opinions from every being that I crossed path with (which helps A LOT in one way or another), and much consideration later... I've decided to be our own ID and then engage some contractors later to put things together. Yes, the drawings and stuff. I love the suggestion and idea that I could put my designing, though rusty, skills to some good use and to save some dollars since we aren't going to rush moving in; even if that means we may end up relying on IKEA for some. If all else fails, we can still SOS to an ID. I'm grateful for all the sharing, advices and contacts I've collected that helped in sorting out my thoughts better; because I always ended up wanting everything, then nothing, and lost focus and even preferences. I never thought it could be quite mentally draining to decide on a concept, and 2 brains didn't make things better. So one of the takeaways today is: Which area of the house would you be spending/love to be spending the most amount of time in? Then focus more in that/those area(s). Great tip! I do hope that I can keep up in jotting this big project of ours as much as possible along the way to keep a record before we get old and forgetful. So this is a start I suppose. Do share if you have any advices 'cause every little tip counts! #projectSRRliving #SRRlivelovebuild
