Endless Interestingness

Every now and then, I get nostalgic, and I scroll through my Tumblr to “re-visit” myself. I feel like I have made this social media platform a reflection of my “ideal” self more than any other. It is a good reflection of my most genuine desires and touches on some of what I see as my most significant faults. I started using Tumblr when I was in high school, and through it, I think I used it as a sort of idea board for who I always wanted to be. It’s interesting now to do a kind of check-in for how I’m actually doing compared to what I thought was my “best life” at the time.

Tattoos. Yep. I have a couple of those. I definitely want more, but I’m working on it.

Cat. Yep. Definitely, have one of those. Definitely, spend more time with him than any/many of the humans in my life.

Coffee. Not as big of a part of my life since getting an Adderall prescription. I still enjoy having a cozy cup of coffee on a lazy Sunday morning, but I don’t need to drink a pot and a half just to function anymore. It’s much less of a co-dependent relationship now.

Relationship. I am in a good relationship now. We’ve hit our hard times - and I mean ACTUAL hard times - and have actually had to WORK though them. We’ve established more accessible modes of communication than I have ever had with another partner. This is the first relationship I’ve ever been in where we are actually comfortable expressing our needs to the other person, and the other person has lived up to making changes to meet those needs. We didn’t rush in, and we are just moving in together after almost two years of “exploring” our relationship (and six months of real commitment). I’m reasonably sure I’m going to marry this man.

Career. I have FINALLY found a job I can see myself staying with for the foreseeable future. I love the work, and I am paid a living wage...WITH BENEFITS. I get to work on policy that will improve people’s lives. I am respected and valued at work. I get to be in the thick of the lawmaking process in Colorado, and though I have to work in an office and wear uncomfortable clothes to work, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Housing. I am about to move into my dream apartment. Exposed brick walls, good location, lots of character and natural light, a porch/balcony space, and a claw-foot tub.
