i lied i feel like this chapter is actually way more fun than the last one, it truly feels like everyone is at their wits end aaaaaaa

i'm so fascinated by the concepts of the butterfly effect, the multiverse, and the "canon events" in almost any type of story so i'm so glad you guys are looking into it as well. in IDIMW, alastor and vox sort of act as anomalies that sow chaos and change events that are meant to happen. they characters who are not supposed to fit in the narrative and play an active role in it.

and now for some interesting food for thought for all of you before i finish the fic sometime in the future:

everyone is going on and on about how alastor and vox have ruined al's and vincent's relationship and how if it weren't for them everything would be perfect between the two. but let me ask you this: if we're taking canon events into consideration for this alternative universe, wouldn't the "doomed relationship" have happened here as well, sooner or later? the inevitable fall out? the break up? like, if alastor and vox are destined to forever ruin their relationship in every universe, isn't this what is waiting for al and vincent as well? if, of course, nothing intervened?

and let's say that vox ruined the vees' canon event of properly meeting and val+vel befriending vincent, which has completely altered their initial fate and prevented them from working together. by that logic, one could argue that vox and alastor, by affecting their relationship, unintentionally might have actually had an opposite impact on vincent and al. i mean, if we're going with "doomed relationship", could messing with the timeline have changed that destiny for them as well, and possibly brought them closer than before, and therefore, maybe even preventing the fallout?

i understand that they have completely different moral standards and that at their core, al and vincent are good people who only want the best for one another, but break ups don't always need to have a bad guy. they don't always stem from unhealthy relationships. sometimes, a fall out can happen even to the best of us, the most healthiest of partnerships - it's only the matter of circumstances and inner desires that truly challenge us (think again back to my references to la la land)

i hope this made sense? i guess this is just something i want you to think about and keep in mind as you continue following my fic ;)

like i've tried everything blocking reporting deleting but new ones keep popping up on every single fucking thing i post and they're all saying the same fucking thing I'M THIS CLOSE TO LOSING IT OH MY GOOOOOD SHUTUPSHUTUPSHUTUP

i want to make the reader as detached from it the same way vincent is. he and al are still benefitting from his parents' money (at least, until vincent finds a job in the course of a week and then they're out) but that's the farthest their generosity will go - which isn't saying much since they're already rich. i wrote them to be homophobic, ableist, and a bit racist which is why they're mostly focusing on vincent's need for money in nyc rather than supporting their collective effort. in fact, they are actively choosing to ignore al's presence altogether for the sake of their "peace". as for vincent, they think he's rather incompetent and don't have much hope for his passions, all while blaming al for holding him back from reaching his true potential by encouraging him to follow his dreams.

for al, having been raised there, i think he's into the american south cuisine, specifically bisque/gumbo. to me he seems like a soup guy so i'm going with that. imo he's open to any food as long as it's well cooked with enough love put into it, and he hates anything processed/cheap. for drinks he prefers coffee.

as for vincent let me start off by saying that i like to believe that he's vegan. he deeply cares about animals, especially the aquatic ones, so his diet would mostly consist that of a plant-based one.

now, with that being said, i think he likes casseroles. he's like painfully white american to me i'm sorry 😭 also i know ppl with autism have a very preferred diet so unlike al he's not that open to widening his tastes. he's also big on energy drinks!

i realized i was making vox too sympathetic and i knew i needed to fix that asap haha. and the worst part is that he's not even in love with al, he's just in love with the idea of him. he's still too hurt by alastor to even try to reconnect with him but he's too stubborn to do or fix anything on his behalf, so he's glued to a version of him that he doesn't even know as a person. sure they've chatted together for a few months, but that is not what it takes to love someone.

and so, vox is still obsessed with alastor, he's just diverting that obsession and pushing it onto someone that is closer to him. he's just as shitty as alastor in the sense that he's taking advantage of the good relationship he has with the other version of his worst enemy and inevitably hurting them. just because he's not trying to forwardly kill him does not mean he's any less manipulative and ab*sive than alastor.

ALSO, i know it's mainly played off as a joke that he thinks that him and al are crypto bros, and that it does reveal vox's desire to be close in any way he can be with alastor (platonicly included) and he'd be satisfied with anything he has with alastor as long as he has him - but i also wrote it that way to keep him off of al. i kinda believe that if from the start vox knew that vincent and al were together in a romantic sense, he wouldn't back down. i know it sounds creepy and not exactly consensual but vox would cling to any version of alastor in any way he can. if he needed to maintain a romantic relationship with al to keep him in his orbit and to not make him suspect that anything's wrong, unfortunately he'd fulfill his role as a proper lover.

do i think he'd force himself onto him? no. do i think he'd willingly stop if al initiates anything himself? ehh that's another story.

Anyways, I really love your writing. I love how you’ve created these characters, how Al and Vincent are so different from Vox and Alastor but still so similar that it’s like seeing the same actor in a different role. You’ve got me absolutely hooked and I can’t wait to see where you go with everything. Wishing you all the health, happiness, delicious food, and good rest.

i haven't seen obsession but i have seen the general plot points and a few clips and you're totally right !! i could totally see alastor having a similar mental crash out at the table and causing a scene ! those two are so obsessed with one another in such a toxic way that it's putting innocent people's lives at risk, which makes it all the more tense!

about the fic of my fic - i say go for it! and this goes out to everyone who's interested. if it's connected to my story specifically, as long as you give me credit as either an ao3 "gift" or a "connected work" (however those two work) you should totally try it out! i think that it's a fun concept and there are so many ways you can play with it, and again with proper credit you can use my existing story as a set up for like a short spin off narrative of your own. if you'll go through it i'll make sure to give you a shoutout ;)
