Music Garage is recruiting smart, passionate, organized self-starters for our 2014 Fall Intern team who can dedicate 15-30 hours/week from September 8th, 2014 to January 18th, 2015.
Music Garage has been host to Chicago's best rehearsals since we opened in 2005. A dedicated monthly space, professional touring artist Showcase Room, hourly rooms with full backlines, and professional suites with world class production services. We are also home to Vic's Drum Shop, offering the largest inventory of drums and percussion in North America.
Our facility houses musicians of all walks of life; from bands practicing for their first show, to Chicago greats likes Jennifer Hudson, Krewella and Chance the Rapper, to national touring artists such as John Mayer, Against Me!, The Smashing Pumpkins, R. Kelly, Iron & Wine and Robin Thicke.
If you want to work in the music industry, there is no better place to get your foot in the door. You'll have opportunities to network with the 2,000+ musicians that pass through our doors each week. Aside from networking opportunities, our staff will teach you what it takes, from a business and creative perspective, to make it in the business. We'll work with you to develop your talents and provide opportunities to nurture them, and we have a lot of fun along the way!
AVAILABLE POSITIONS
In addition to the core projects listed below, every intern will be the face of Music Garage. You'll be working as part of an intern TEAM, towards a common goal.
You'll greet our customers, set up our hourly rooms and handle customer service at our front desk. (Don't worry if you don't know a thing about how to set up a microphone, you'll be a master by the end of the internship!)
Artist Relations Intern:
As our Artist Relations Intern you'll have endless opportunities to connect with musicians in the building. You'll head our Featured Artist program, which spotlights an artist in the building each week throughout the building and on all of our Social Media channels. You'll act as a liaison to the program and the artists, heading everything from initial contact, to media production and posting the final product.
Venue Relations / Promotions Intern:
As our Venue Relations Intern you'll be hitting up some of the most praised venues in Chicago on behalf of Music Garage. Currently, we make regular trips to venues to exchange promotional material. We currently work with Reggies, Double Door, The Metro, The Empty Bottle, Schubas, and Lincoln Hall. You'll also help book, promote and settle our monthly Showcases at venues like Bottom Lounge, The Empty Bottle, Elbo Room & Double Door. You'll lead efforts in establishing new partnerships. A car would really help you out, but is not required.
Graphic Design Intern:
As our Graphic Design Intern, you'll be the first in line for all design inquiries, needs and wants. You'll have opportunities to create all of our Show flyers, website material for Music Garage and Vic's Drum Shop, and create your own connections within the building for freelance possibilities. You'll also create band and artist posters for each Featured Artist.
Requirements: Proficient in Photoshop
Live Sound -- Gear QA Intern:
We have gear. Lots of gear. From our 10 hourly rooms, to the drum shop to over 100 monthly rooms, there are amps to fix, drums to tune and mics to set up. As our Gear QA Intern you'll be assuring that all of the equipment is in proper working order, and fixing problems as they come up. You'll also have opportunities to work with our live sound engineer on events in our Showcase room.
Requirements: Working knowledge of gear (Amps, PAs, drums, etc).
Events Intern:
In the past, our events only included Open Mics and two BBQs a year. But in the past few months, our events have grown to include showcases, mixers, and other community building events. It's definitely an exciting time for events at Music Garage. You'll reach out to our sponsors to get donations, establish new partnerships with businesses working with the affinity intern, as well as plan the events from top to bottom.
Marketing -- Affinity Program Intern:
You'll work with our staff to develop creative marketing plans and programs that will continue to spread our name throughout the Chicago music scene. You'll also be able to analyze marketing data and come up with unconventional ways to get our brand out. As part of the affinity program, you'll be reaching out to businesses in the surrounding neighborhood to partake in our marketing efforts.
Requirements: Proficient in Excel
Social Media Intern:
As the Social Media intern, (you guessed it) you'll be heading all of our social media platforms. You'll learn how business social media differs from personal use, and how to effectively plan and execute strategies that gain traction and help the business grow. We're on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Foursquare and plan to do more! You'll also help maintain our website (which we are currently revamping).
