ABOUT

Katsura/Blaine. Seventy-six. Cis dude. (He/Him)

APPEARANCE. 

Blaine is a lanky, wiry thin old fellow that thinks every event needs an appropriate tie to correspond to the event. He's 170cm/5'7'' and shrinking with a hunch and spinal compression.

He's vain and eccentric, dressing in vests, polished wingtip shoes, and funky ties to accentuate the "mood of the day". The mood of the day is usually manic and high energy. Katsura has a shiny bald head and a lanky grey mustache, his eyes constantly hidden by a pair of red or black round sunglasses. Most of his clothing is fireproof and built to take burns. AND THEY DO.

PERSONALITY. 

Blaine's loud, gregarious, and an easy laugher. He's someone who loves a good debate and he enjoys riling a conversation up only to tip his hat and immediately leave it like his job was done. He's someone who tends to stand up for the ethically "right" thing now after a LONG time exploring the grey areas of morality.

BACKGROUND. 

Blaine didn't start out as a trainer, but a researcher. He had a natural knack for finding secrets about Pokémon, and a perfect aptitude that suited his brand of research. He branched into studying genetics as his scholarly pursuit, and ended up working in the field as part of a now non-existent program. Alongside fellow researcher Dr. Fuji, Blaine unpacked Pokémon Genetics and was instrumental in the foundations of the science.

Blaine discovered a love for training during this time, having partnered with some of the Pokémon that his initial fossil project revived.

TEAM ROCKET.

When Blaine was approached by the Madame Boss of Team Rocket, initially, it was due to his proficiency with fossil revivification and genetic manipulation. He worked for the Boss for many years, supplying her with a stream of fossil mons' for her grunts, before the gang was taken over by Sakaki Giovanni. Blaine and Fuji were major contributors to the Ditto Project, Project Mewtwo, and the Porygon Project.

GYM LEADERSHIP.

Afterwards, Blaine refused to continue down this path, pivoting to Gym Leadership due to the horrific nature of the experiments conducted. He was already old, but an encounter with Moltres inspired him that it was never too late to rise from the ashes.

Thus, he started to chase Rocket assets off Cinnabar and reclaim the place to guard its secrets. He opened the fossil lab on Cinnabar and provides entertainment to the remote Town in the form of various community spaces he's invested a lot of time into.
