Quiver

Rest isn’t supposed to be confined to vacations. Rest can be a way of life. I used to feel sick the day before vacation was over, really anxious about the overflowing email inbox and the unmet expectations I knew had to come from a whole week of not working. And I think that I may always tend toward this mindset because of my personality, but friends, we can learn to cultivate rest in real life too. I’ve learned to know my heart and how to treat it tenderly. I’ve learned that reading a chapter of a book every morning in my hammock makes me 20X more hardworking through out the day and also makes me love my life. I’ve learned that taking a little time in the morning and a little time in the evening to do something special for myself (even if it’s just making some coffee) makes me feel like I’m on vacation everyday. Rest can be a way of life. And cultivating rest allows me to hear Jesus more, hear purpose better, and recognize the fullness of my life. So I don’t feel sad now that vacation is over, because I know tomorrow will be full of hard work AND the laughter and rest I need too.
