Quite the Characters!

The first member of the Justice League trifecta is none other than Bubbalicious! I lived with this dude for 4 out of 6 months in A Coruña so I can say with confidence that he’s an absolute gem! Bubbalicious is most likely found in the kitchen whipping up his latest delicious concoction whilst us mere commoners drool on the sidelines. When he’s not cooking up a storm, he is packing up for his next adventure or cheering on his fave football club Athletico de Madrid (eff Real Madrid amirite?!). However, no matter what team he’s supporting you know he’ll always rep his hometown squad, the Nebraska Cornhuskers! Will miss this guy and his dad-like ways. You da best Bubs, until we meet again!

This one is leaving on a jet plane back to her homeland today, wah! Although it is never fun to say goodbye, I will always cherish our countless coffee dates accompanied by long chats and belly laughs. This gal has got a big old heart and a vibrant-ass personality to boot! Lucy Goosey ain’t afraid to fight for what she thinks is right and will stick to her guns. Something to admire my peeps! Good luck on your next adventure girl, you gonna kill it!

Man, do these boys know how to make a girl feel at home while she’s across the world! Since moving to A Coruña, a sisterhood has formed between myself, my roommates and these wonderful humans. We have shared ice cream sundays, one billion quemadas, delicious bbq’s, and enough cervezas to fill the Atlantic ocean. From Dave, the whiskey aficionado/goofball with dance moves that don’t quit, to Mike the adventure-seeking photography guru, to Sean the quick-witted jokester who can belt out any Sinead O’Connor tune at the drop of a hat, these boys form a trio that ain’t nothin to fuck with!! Seriously, much love and thanks for being such great buds.

Don’t let their tough exterior fool you, the Veggie Punks are a couple of the most lovely, soft spoken, and humble humans I have met on my trip thus far! These two explained to me how they left their homes in Poland to pursue a life cultivating veggies on a farm in rural Ireland! When they’re not putting in long hours out in the garden, they are selling their harvests at the local farmer’s market. Just goes to show you can’t judge a book by it’s cover, for real! 

Somebody call the cops, because my heart has been stolen!!!! Little did I know that on a regular old Monday morning, my heart would almost explode due to sweetness-overload from meeting this man. 70 year old Sweet Tony rolled into my class looking his Monday best and bearing a leather briefcase stocked with his English class supplies. He was ready to rock. For the next hour, he spoke about Spanish food, history and all about his family. Unfortunately, his level of English is rather low, so the conversation was filled with pauses for dictionary searches, note-taking, and sketches in order to get his point across. He wanted to do it all himself and waved me off when I tried to help! He informed me that he takes English classes so he can understand people when he visits his daughter in New York. It was enough to make a softie like me well up with tears! Much respect for this lifelong learner!

New character on the horizon!!

Dressed to the nines and found in groups of 10 or more, these travelling troubadours meander the streets of Portugal, searching for a willing audience to share their music with. From a safe distance, you can passively enjoy their tunes with your friends and have a jolly old time BUT BE WARNED: if you show too much interest, you WILL be escorted to the centre of the crowd, you WILL be given a robe to wear, and you WILL be serenaded for 5 straight minutes with no means of escape! Proceed with caution!

I met Cutie Stew through Salsa Dave. There may be a 20-year age gap between them, but that doesn’t stop them from being #1 homies. TRU LUV <3
