“I am sure you have thought that through very thoroughly before making the decision,” Tessa commented. At least as a witch, Quinn was perfectly aware of all she would be giving up in the process, far more than someone like Tessa would be losing to gain immortality. “But another thing vampires don’t get is to enjoy regular food as much as humans do, which means it is another reason to indulge as much as you can now.”

“Oh, I’m definitely trying to.  Despite being a vampire. my Aunt Luna is an amazing cook. She has taught me everything she knows,” Quinn explained as the waiter set down their drinks.  “I love to travel but New Orleans will certainly always be home.  Where are you originally from?”

“Yes! I have not been able to have enough of those! I’ve probably gained at least fifteen pounds just in eating beignets,” she admitted with a laugh, wrapping her coat tighter around herself. “Things like gaining weight from sweets and not having to deal with the cold make me want to be a vampire. At least they don’t have to deal with those things. But I try to remember all the good parts of being human too,” she admitted honestly.

“I know what you mean honestly.  I plan to turn eventually but I love being a witch.  It pretty much the only reason I haven’t turned yet,” she admitted honestly.  It was rare that Quinn felt comfortable enough to talk about her future plans but something about Tessa made Quinn trust her.

“And then we can share! Yes, I like this idea!” she declared with a giggle, doing her best to keep up with Quinn as they headed out of the school. “Of course we should also find some dessert, the most important part of any meal.”

“Well, then beignets are a must.  They are a delicacy in New Orleans.  My Aunt Luna makes the best.  They are amazing with coffee if you are a coffee drinker.  Maybe if we have time we can stop by there after lunch.”

“Ooh, that sounds great! I haven’t been there before,” she admitted, grinning as she walked with Quinn out of the school. “I’ve had some jambalaya at some other places here. I try to order the most New Orleans dish I can when I go to a new place here. That way I can see what they do best.”

“I tell you what’“ he grinned as they scrambled off campus. “You get the jambalaya and I’ll get the gumbo because honestly,” she paused closing her eyes to emphasis...”both are amazing”.

“Well, they better keep in mind they have to pass their tests before they get a break from us. Otherwise, they are really going to hate themselves later,” she joked. “That sounds absolutely perfect! I am starving,” she agreed, leaving the rest of her papers on the desk and grabbing her purse and coat. “Let’s escape before we’re caught.”

“Awesome! I know this great little cafe. It’s called Pat O’Brien’s. They have some really amazing creole dishes,” Quinn grinned ear to ear. One of her favorite parts of New Orleans was the food. She loved to cook but also to eat at all the restaurants in the quarter. “My favorite is the jambalaya.”

Tessa was cleaning up some of her papers and organizing her desk. Things got a little messy when she was teaching. She looked up, motioning for Quinn to come on in. “Hey. Are your students as wild as mine? I think they sense the change in the weather and that the holiday break is right around the corner,” she joked, grinning at the other.

“Girl, I feel that,” she smiled as she entered.  “Their minds are definitely on winter vacation and not midterms,” she laughed.  “I was hoping you were free for lunch,  Off campus and of course my treat.”

Missing magic is probably the biggest reason I haven’t turned yet.  Being a witch is something that has always been a part of me.  But becoming a vampire eventually is something I feel destined to do.

Honestly, I went into teaching because I had to teach myself.  My mother wasn’t a witch but my father was and he died before I was born.  So everything I know is self taught.  Now that there are schools for people like me (which there wasn’t before that I know of)..... I just want to pass along the knowledge that never had the chance to be passed down to me.

There is a co-worker of mine that a caught my eye but.... we shall see how things go...

I have made a couple new friends. Am I suspicious?  Well... I’m always a little suspicious but I like a challenge.  (Which is probably my biggest flaw.... but we don’t talk about that.)

“Exactly. We can talk about history and be boring old ladies. Or do something crazy and talk about people we are interested in or try to reclaim our youth by going out and partying or something,” she joked, grinning at the other. She could definitely see Quinn being a good friend, which she appreciated. She needed more of those. “Yes, but I wouldn’t just use you for your witchy powers. You’re more than just that.”

“Well, thank you.  I have spent my life studying and be surrounded by witchcraft sometimes I forget I’m more than a witch.”  She was becoming happier and happier about the decision she made to come back to the quarter.  It had been a long time since had a real friend.  “So what do you do for fun when you aren’t studying and avoiding the bar scene?”

“Oh no, I’m not from here. I sort of moved all over most of my life, but I haven’t lived here before now,” she explained, shaking her head. “I moved here to teach at the school specifically, though I am sure I would have found my way here eventually given all the supernatural history here,” she added. “Yeah, I have been trying the bar scene sometimes, but since I found an apartment, I have been so busy moving. You should come over sometime. We could have some wine and gossip about the school and stuff,” Tessa offered. It would be nice to have a friend over soon now that she was about moved in. “Good point.”

Quinn grinned widely at the idea.  “We should definitely get together.  I’ve been out of town studying the past few years so I unfortunately don’t have as many local friends as I once use to.  Plus, It would be nice to have a fellow historian to chat with.”  Getting to know the NOLA scene since the Salvatore Boarding School had proven to be quite interesting to her.  Her city was always mysterious but it was become more so now that it was crawling with all sorts more supernatural beings.  “Besides, I’m sure having a witch friend is always a plus,” she smiled.

“I was never much of a party person. I was too much of a nerd at home reading, I guess,” she admitted with a shrug. She blushed at the question, shaking her head no. “I don’t have a date. I mean, there is someone I am attracted to, but I don’t think I am his type. And meeting new people hasn’t exactly been my top priority right now,” she explained.

Quinn looked at the girl curiously.  “Are you not from around here?  I’ll be honest, New Orleans is probably the best place to meet new people.  Or practice at least.  Maybe not so much at a ‘work’ event,” she gestured at the party around them.  “But a local bar, for sure.  No need to worry about embarrassment because most people are just here on vacation,” she grinned.  “It’s good  to have a balance between the books and a social life.  Besides,  the social life could possibly bring you more books if you make the right friends,” Quinn winked.

“And is this a true story it just one made up to scare the kids?” He asked curiously.

“The axe man is very much a true story.  Though.... to say parents didn’t use the story to scare kids would be a lie,” she smiled.  “New Orleans has a lot of stories like that.  Ones that seem like they might be urban legends but are actually true.  It’s one of my favorite things about this place.”
