5 Things to Check Before Approving a Power Transformer Quotation
A power transformer quotation should not be reviewed only by voltage ratio and kVA/MVA rating.
Before approval, engineers and buyers should also check:
1. Service conditions Indoor or outdoor installation, ambient temperature, altitude, humidity, dust, corrosion, and ventilation can all affect transformer design.
2. Impedance and short-circuit withstand Impedance affects fault current, voltage regulation, protection coordination, and system safety.
3. Cooling and temperature rise Cooling method, load profile, and temperature-rise limits should be clearly stated before ordering.
4. Losses and efficiency No-load loss and load loss affect long-term operating cost, not just the initial purchase price.
5. Testing and documents Routine tests, type tests, FAT scope, drawings, nameplate data, manuals, and final test reports should be confirmed before shipment.
A transformer may look simple in a single-line diagram, but the engineering review behind it is much more detailed.
