In this tutorial you will learn how to add a picture to your sidebar/header description.

Step one: get image link

You now need an image link which will have a format like: http://www.______.com/image-name.jpg

To upload your own picture, visit Imgur:

Click on “upload images”

Click “browse your computer” and select the image you want.

Then right-click and select “view image”

Keep a copy of the link in the address bar (you’ll need it later!)

E.g. my link will be:

http://i.imgur.com/Xwn2ReR.png

Tip: If you have picture on your Tumblr blog (e.g. in a picture in a post) you want to use, then just right-click that image and select “view image” and copy the link from Tumblr, instead of uploading it to Imgur.

Step two: Open the “edit theme” page

1. Log into Tumblr and click on the ’human’ cog icon and Select your blog from the right-hand column.

2. Click the Edit appearance option.

3. Click Edit theme

Step three: Open the customize panel

The highlighted box is where you should make changes to your description.

In the highlighted box paste in this code:

Remember to replace “http://i.imgur.com/Xwn2ReR.png” with whatever online image you want.

The result is this:

Step one: Click on edit appearance

This opens up the settings page.

Step two: Scroll right down, click the “edit” icon

Step three: enter username

Enter the username of the blog you want to block.

The user name can be found blog URL. For example, to block the account at http://staff.tumblr.com, you would type “staff”. (Don’t actually block staff, they’re nice people!)

Alternative way

Another way to block people who appear in your Tumblr dashboard is to hover over the blog name then:

1. Click on the “human icon”

2. Click block

What happens when you block people?

According to Tumblr Support, blocked people won’t be able to:

follow you

send fan mails or asks

see your blog in their Dashboard or Tumblr search

In this tutorial, we'll guide you through adding links to your theme's description that often displays in the header or sidebar.

Step one: Open the “edit theme” page

1. Log into Tumblr and click on the ’human’ cog icon and Select your blog from the right-hand column.

2. Click the Edit appearance option.

3. Click Edit theme

Step two: changing your description

I've highlighted the box where you can add your description.

To add to your description, simply type something in the box.

When you want to add links, copy and paste this into your box:

Replace "http://quickguide.tumblr.com/" with the website you want people to go to (make sure you include the http:// part, or the link won’t work), and replace "Link to Quick Guide" with words you want people to see.

For example, in my site description box, I've added two links to a Tumblr blog, and Instagram account:

Now, when I open my Tumblr blog, you can see the links:

Other tips

To make a line break (a “gap”) in your description, paste the following code in your description:

Step one: click on the 'settings' cog

Step two: Navigate the blog settings

In the right-hand bar, select the name of the blog you wish to add ask support to.

Here you can change the name shown in the title of the ask page, as well as anonymous questions (you won't know the identity/username of the person asking the question).

Step three: Save!

1. Sign up for a WordPress.com account

You need a WordPress.com blog, simply follow the steps to select your username and confirm your account via email.

Be sure to choose a free domain and free plan for now.

2. Open WordPress Admin

Click on Import

Click on Other importers.

3. Select import from Tumblr

4. Allow Tumblr access

Click the ‘Connect to Tumblr to begin’ button. You may need to log into Tumblr if you haven’t already. Be sure to allow access to WordPress.com

5. Start the import!

Once authenticated you can select your Tumblr blog from the list of your blogs and click on ‘Import this blog’.

Tumblr has two different types of blogs--primary and secondary blogs--which can access different features of Tumblr. Here's the rundown:

Primary blogs

Created when you first signed up for Tumblr

Social features (normal)

Can follow other blogs, like and reply to posts

Used as the username when you ask and submit content to other blogs

You may share the list of posts you like and create blogrolls (list of people you follow) in Primary blogs

Protected blogs (nope)

Cannot have a password

Secondary blogs

Created as additional blogs from your main account

Social features (non-existent)

Cannot follow other blogs, like and reply to posts

Username cannot be used to ask and submit content

Cannot access blogrolls or posts you like

Protected blogs (yep!)

Step one: Open the customize panel

Step two: Scroll down and select 'Add a new page'

Step three: Change page type

Click on the arrow and change the page type to "Redirect"

Step four: Fill in the form

Show a link to this page - makes the theme display a link automatically (make sure you add a title!)

Page URL - sets the name of the custom page on your blog

Redirect to - what website you want to point to

Then click 'Save' and you're done!

Step one: Get the theme code

Tumblr theme code is provided in a number of ways (it should look something like above). It may be hosted on Pastebin or distributed in a text file by the theme maker.

Step two: Copy all the code

You should highlight all the code contained in the file or website that has the theme code (use the shortcut "ctrl + a" (Windows) or "cmd + a" (Mac OSX), to make sure you get everything).

Then make a copy of the code, either by right clicking on the text then selecting 'copy' or by using the shortcut "ctrl + c" or "cmd + c" (Mac OSX).

Step three: Enter the Tumblr customizer

1. Log into Tumblr and click on the 'human' cog icon and Select your blog from the right-hand column.

2. Click the Edit appearance option.

3. Click Edit theme

Step four: Edit your HTML

Click on the "edit HTML" text.

Step five: Paste in new code and save

Delete all the existing text, in this section, then paste in your new theme code ("ctrl + v" [Windows] and "cmd + v" [Mac OSX])
