So many of the caves we visited were in what felt like the Fertile Crescent of France, in Les-Eyzies, where early Homo sapiens and Neanderthals coexisted in the same territory for over 5,000 years, just before the final extinction of the Neanderthals. Exactly how they interacted is up for exciting discussion, but there is alot of material evidence that suggests an interesting story between the two groups. For example, Neanderthal burials, or crude shell necklaces and tools that mimicked those of Homo sapiens.

Absolutely the experience of a lifetime. We stopped at as many caves as we could and saw beautiful cave paintings of prehistoric animals, old bear nests, hand prints and steps made by early Homo sapiens from the last ice age. So many poetic moments in these caves where our ancestors walked and considered the unknown. #fontdegaume #cavepaintings #archaeology
