And us horrid young adults would ask her why she still worked at Taco Bell, because it was starter job and who would want to stay there forever? Her response?

“I make enough money to make sure I always have roses in my bedroom.”

This answer changed me as a person. It changed the way I thought about what makes someone successful, and made me step back and realize that I was so caught up in what I thought success and happiness should mean that I didn’t know what I wanted them to mean.

Here in the Camp, I am not safe. I was robbed by homophobic gangs, losing my documents and means of survival. In April 2025, government officials ordered LGBTQ+ individuals to leave the camp within 10 days. I live under constant fear, depression, and the very real threat of violence surrounded by civil unrest and a heavy military presence.

Despite all of this, I continue to advocate for my fellow queer refugees who suffer alongside me people living with chronic illnesses, breastfeeding mothers, teenage girls, persons with disabilities, and children who deserve safety and dignity. I run a Child Friendly Space where our children receive mentorship and learning support, because even here, in the midst of danger, we refuse to give up on the next generation.

What i urgently need is protection, emergency food and shelter, medication and psychosocial support, and a clear pathway to resettlement in a country where our lives and rights are respected.
